yes very much a silly mistake, on second thoughts, Glen could beat Derri again. that being said Rovers need to knock off caramut this weekend for it to be any use for Glen.

lets just say everything does fall glens way leading up to finals the will then play lismore derri again first week of the finals, so you could maybe see glen get to the second week of finals.

Hard to imagine, but definitely within the realms of possibility......but like 'Strawpeedo' said a lot depends on the Dogs knocking off the 'Muts this week.

Really can't see Glen knocking off Derri again..
I know Derri have slipped up a bit lately and aren't exactly in their best form but i saw Glen a couple of weeks ago against Taty and they didnt look like a side that could make an impact on finals..
Admittedly they were playing Tatyoon but I also saw Rovers play Moyston for a half on the same day and Rovers look a far more dangerous side!
You take SMW's draw with Caramut and turn it into a win and they sit equal on points with both Glen and the Muts, probably in sixth place behind Caramut!!
My point being - maybe Rovers are a better side than people give them credit for and it wasnt just Derri's poor form that lost them the game..
Still think Derri are 3rd or 4th best side..
If Rovers beat Caramut this week it most probably will be the last round that will decide whether fifth goes to them or Caramut - they play Bolac and Caramut v Taty
could be very close if other results go as expected!!
would be interested in ur thoughts here bloods as the Rams are your team and you know them better than most..
anyone's else opinions welcome also?

Rovers cannot possibly make it unless they win all their games (Car, HM???, WLB)......or Caramut lose to Woorndoo-Mort in Rd 17, therefore allowing Rovers to lose to Haw/Mac.......The Rovers % is 40 odd behind Caramuts, which gives Caramut a big edge.
Glen-Dunk are only two points behind Caramut, and if Rovers beat Caramut this week and GD beat Penshurst at home they will move to fifth.

Win one more game against either MW or LD and they will make it, as both Car and Rov will more than likely lose remaining games against Taty and Haw-Mac respectively in Rds18 & 17.

But if Caramut beat Rovers this week, all that means shite, as they should hold fifth.

When you saw the Rams against Tatyoon they were with out Jumbo Jenkinson (sat on the bench all day crook), Luke McDonald(Ruck) and Nathan Stewart (FF), which puts a dent in a team that already has limited depth.

Look if the Rams make fifth spot, they would be rapt.......but realistically they will be only making up a number......all they were hoping to do this season was put some senior experience into some youngsters.

yep ok fair points, so what you're saying is that Caramut have that much percentage over Rovers that even equal on points would see Caramut a definite starter in the finals..

Rams must have been depleted on that day then, as those three names do take quite a chunk out of a young side!! Nathan Stewart has been a reliable goalkicker which was a problem for the Rams on that day..

Good on the Rams if they do make fifth, I haven't seen Caramut play so can't comment just thought Rovers were perhaps better than 7th spot!!

However i may be wrong and hopefully Derri can get their shit together and make it a competitive finals series!!

Few interesting games coming up too, Derri need to prove they are back on track against Taty while Moyston will show whether they are contenders or pretenders, also against the Hawks!!
Look forward to seeing how it unfolds!

C'mon Demons!!! You need to pump it up a bit to make this a decent finals series! Don't blow all the GOOD form that people fail to mention.

Rovers have very much underachieved this season, if you have a look at when their wins came it was majority in the last half of the season. had they have settled earlier in the year they may have beaten Glen and Penshurst putting them well in the five at this stage in the year. alot of young players have settled well into positions and beginning to put their dent in senior footy which looks good for the future for the dogs. this is much the same as a few sides in the league, such as Glen.

they have won five of their last seven games

The actual ladder from Rd 7 would be:

Hawk-M 36
Tatyoon 28
Moy-Will 24
Lism-Derr 24
Caramut 22
SMW Rov 22
Glen-Dun 16
Penshurst 8
Wick-Bolac 4
Woor-Mort 0

Unfortunately Rd1 to Rd18 make up a home and away season.......slow starts can be hard to make up later on in the season.

I remember Byrnesy going off after the Rams game earlier in the year, slamming players for not getting to training. A week later they gave up a six goal half-time lead to go down by 10 points or so.

Fitness earlier on in the year maybe what costs them in the end.

Ok were not far from the buisness... does anyone believe it will be anyone other than taty and hawkesdale in both the 1s and 2s again? i personally dont believe it will be anything but this...

are hawkesdale now the favourites in both grades? no taty have been hit extremely hard in the 2s due 2 the injuries in the 1s, but they really need 2 lift again back to where they were at the start of the yr and go beyond it... i think they will, but need some luck with all the senior players returning... think they may have found a key with marx 2 rotate through the guts...

any thoughts?

looking at the ladder, if m/w win this week they'l go a long way towards getting themselves into 3rd... i no its a big ask as they have never beaten taty, but with so much to play for should produce a ripping match... anyone give them a chance? dont think they can as stumbled pretty badly against a depleted taty last time... but the rivalry between the 2 shuld get both up and about...

Expect Matty Harris to be back in for the Taty one's this week, very underrated player - gets in and under and is very creative with his hands around the stoppages.. big plus!
Also expect both Timmy and Andy McDougall back in the Hawks forward line possibly as early as next week, big Doogs finger is coming along well while Tim is just resting his knee after a scrape out..
Certainly adds some potency to the Hawks forward line especially with Hitchcock back and firing - kicked 7 last week..
With Tucker firing and Harris back in, the Hawks midfield is also beginning to look ominous, especially if they keep Shagga McDougall who hasn't been given great opportunity at North Ballarat!

Cant see Moyston getting up in this one..
The Goons are getting back to nearly full strength and the Pumas rely too heavily on too few - Vanderwaal, Flower, TK and Burmeister down forward to kick a winning score..
The Pumas dont quite have the cattle in the back half to match the Hawks in my opinion, while Tucker and co in the midfield run forward well and contribute on the scoreboard..
Taty may be a touch susceptible down back in terms of big fella's however offer plenty of run from the back half!!
This combined with Moyston being a bit one dimensional should see the Hawks take the points!

In other news around the league, Wicky Bolac have made an early announcement, signing Leo Fitzpatrick as senior coach for the 2009 season..
Former premiership player and best and fairest, with strong ties to the club having also played all his junior footy with the Magpies..
Has senior coaching experience - Beaufort in 2004/2005!
Takes over from Mick Jennings who has been a great servant for the footy club and has done a fine job with limited cattle over the last couple of years.. Good luck to Leo and the Magpies, be interesting to see who they can drag back to the fold after being very short on numbers the past couple of years!

heard another rumour that bolac is making a big play to bring the otto boys back from ballarat... they would be a massive pick up as both are pretty much dominating for ballarat and you would expect the popular lads to drag a few along... magpies could very easily be up and about next yr...

Yes the Pies are definitely on the hunt for young blokes who have left the club for uni or work etc and another name on the grapevine is Taz Clingan...
Made the richmond rookie list a couple of years ago but it didnt work out, not sure where he is playing now but getting a few of these boys back would certainly strengthen wicky, particularly through the midfield!

Taz Cligan  Be a very handy recruit to the pies!

the word is that the otto boys have already signed for next year, bolac have a lot of young players that could come back, so maybe you will see a totally different outfit next year.

would be good for the club, they have been down the ladder for the last couple of years

poor bastards!

they have been down for a couple of years.....ffs they have won 7 of the last 20 premierships!

In that time only five clubs have won flags......so half the league have not tasted success.

A few more years down the blunt end of the ladder would have suited most clubs.lol

I heard that Leo didn't leave on very good terms last time he was at Bolac, had a falling out with the club or something.. Any truth to this?? With be a very handy coach and player if he plays and he might even bring back his 3 younger brothers who are handy players also.. Good Luck Bolac! :thumbsu:
