Minor things that annoy you about the game

When umps yell "hold" 5m short from where the mark was taken. usually happens when a loose defender takes a mark defensive side of a press and the opposition player is running to the mark. I see it a dozen times a game

Players with prior opportunity running, bumped or tackled over the boundary line and the boundary ump asked to throw it in. It's a deliberate or holding the ball free kick, maybe not for being bumped, but it should be.

Defenders never on the end of a free in a marking contest when both are holding jumpers or arms around.

Players not allowed to tackle a player after a free is called but the player with the ball can take advantage.

Commentators who always say "it's been a very entertaining first half/quarter" - seemingly regardless of how entertaining it actually was. In this season full of low-scoring defensive slogs, quite often it hasn't been "entertaining" in the least.

-15 metres is a lot longer in the defensive 50 than forward 50
-Cameron Ling verbally blowing Petracca with every AFL standard HFF thing he does.

Ball barely grazes the goal post and it's a behind. If it goes in, it should be a goal. Slow motion replays are so boring FFS
That's a fundamental part of the game though. The goalposts are just a visual guide - if we could have some laser beam pointing up to the sky which you could see, then we'd use it.

1. Players who could easily mark the ball but hang back and allow it to bounce.
2. 50 metre kick to a pack, and everyone standing back an watching an opponent mark unattended. How about contesting a damned mark?
3. Players without the slightest clue of how to kick for goal.
4. Players appealling for deliberate out of bounds every damned time the ball goes over the line.

There are others, but that will do for now.

Maybe, but it's an illogical rule. Kicking in from inside the goal square was also a fundamental part of the game - why even have a goal square now? Rules change regularly, most of them have improved the game. Not sure if we can say that about the 6-6-6 rule and new kicking in rule.

But posters that go through being goals would make life easier for goal umpires, mean less replays and slightly increase scoring :thumbsu:

- Teams playing each other in round 1, then not playing again for the rest of the season
- Teams not playing against each other until round 23
- Or worse, a combination of those. We almost had that with the Giants and Bulldogs last playing in round 1 of last year, then didn't meet again until round 22 this year.

Players getting spun 360º in a tackle and not being called holding the ball or no prior ball up, added frustration when they manage to handball to a team mate after the 360º. I'm aware it's not a rule but I wish it was, it's harder than ever to lay a clean tackle these days, can't sling, can't get in their back, players have a stronger core than ever to break tackles and players are better than ever at kicking or handballing on their non-preferred.

Player has a free kick so ball gets chucked to him. He's had it in his hands about 3 seconds and looks around for option. "Play on, Play on" yells the umpire, for no apparent reason?

In-game interviews with players/coaches at QT/HT/3QT or during quarters. I know access is everything these days but IMO no player or coach should be put up in front of a camera or mic from about half an hour before a game starts until immediately after it. Just let them focus on the job at hand. Aside from that it's rarely insightful content anyway.

It's not like they are gonna give any great insights either

I agree , I hate the interviews it is mainly drivel that comes out and they all asy the same thing, how is it they all get media trained, the interviewer asks some inane question that anybody can answer and they do just that, some nonsense like Buddy about How great it was to be back out there duur?????? the young guys are great to play with, what the hell does anyone think they'll say, "oh kicked three therers a hundred thou in the bank, but I rested for five hundred days for about 1 mil. ha ha ha
Coaches are worse because they all lie or dodge or are stymied by AFL political correctness, like its the running of NATO , it a fr*gg*n footy game. Interviews through the game half and quarter times are something I hate with a psaaion I leave the room, the TV has enough know-alls without PAYING PEOPLE FOR GETTING BULLDUST COMMENTS THAT ARE ALL THE SAME.

On the AFL fixture I have printed out they list the nicknames for select teams, but have only the SUNS and GIANTS in capital letters. They have done this since these teams came in I think and it has always annoyed me.
Bump. Have just started to notice the SUNS in capital letters everywhere recently. Haven't been able to find out anything in regards to why this is.
