Minor things that annoy you about the game

I still get pissed off with the inconsistency of players having to go back over their mark when they've taken a mark.

Also if a player creeps off their line to try and get a better angle for a set shot on goal why is this not play on? When a player accidently moves an inch in the midfield its play on every time

That game time clocks at the ground still go up rather than count down. I'm not sure who that's for, because at any game I've been at in the past few years that is within a few goals towards the end of the fourth, one or both of the following happens:
- Kids badger their parents for the phone to see how long is left (including my own)
- People around me talk loudly to everyone in earshot that there are 4/3/2/whatever mins left.

The timing of the quarter from siren to siren is a countdown from 20 mins when the ball is in play. Just show the bloody clock at the ground that tells us that.

Another thing I didn’t really like which I don’t think they do much anymore was when they would cut to the crowd in 4K quality. Made it look like I was watching a documentary

When two-bit hack footballers sledge and bump opponents who've just missed a goal. Also when two-bit hack footballers chase down an opponent and celebrate their HTB free kick by rubbing their opponent's nose in it - either by pushing their head into the ground, or grabbing the back of their collar and lifting them up a few centimetres and shoving them back down.

It's all just pointless he-man bullshiit. It's doesn't sap their opponent's confidence or get under their skin. They just make themselves look like pricks.

The unbelievable shitness of afl.com

One of the worst websites I've ever seen for such a large user base

It's pretty obvious that Gill McLachlan, Steve Hocking and all the campaigners in the AFL never ever bother to use it. I guarantee you, if they did use it like any of us do on an average weekend, they would immediately recognise how awful it is and give those responsible a swift kick up the arse.

But they couldn't care less

The AFL is all about extracting as much money as they can from all their revenue streams
It's the only thing they care about. No time to concern themselves with any of the things we care about.

All about lining their mates' pockets so they don't actually hire developers that know what they are doing

Like a lot of people these days I use different sites for different things all with the goal of avoiding the clusterf*ck that is the AFL website at all costs.

Millions of clicks the donkeys are missing due to not having a half functional user friendly web page, something which any business with a net worth north of 100 bucks seems to manage just fine.

Players not being able to hear the umpires call.

A common example would be when an umpire calls a kick "touched off the boot", a player then catches the ball and stops like it's a mark. The player then gets tackled, acts confused and the umpire gives him the benefit of the doubt and balls it up.

Umpires already wear microphones, would it be that hard to wear some sort of speaker as well?

How a great goal from a non-superstar player will get replayed a few times til the year is out, where as had it been kicked by Judd/Ablett/Dangerfield it would be seen and used for the next 50 years. Mav Weller and Jordan Murdoch's goals last year, for example. Murdoch's goal was off the charts, but a Dangerfield slot from 30m out will be the preferred option for any media/AFL promo/video.

Jumper designs. Pies, Bombers, Saints, Carlton (tho amended), West Coast, at the least, have had traditional strips used in the past for long periods of time that are far more striking. Pies strip with the predominant white is an amazing jumper, 20 times better. Bombers in red shorts/more red. Carlton's jumper has gone from average to great. Saints with the black wet-suit looking sh*te, instead of the white edges. West Coast have been taking the piss for a long period of time, with the yellow/blue eagle design from the 90s an absolute ripper.

Players showing no character/independent thinking within the media.

The media talking about part of a trade as if it was the entire trade.

Umpires explaining obvious decisions. Become competent, answer to nobody. Umpires encouraging vocally. Shut up and focus on the rules you're meant to implement.

Damien Hardwick.

Agree about the Collingwood jersey. Swan Districts in the WAFL still have the black stripe up the centre - looks way better.

When a player marks the ball and in the same contest his team mate wins a free kick but they insist on giving the ball to the player that got the freekick and not just paying the mark.

Also goal umpires in general. Just get rid of them, there is no need for them anymore.
A big yes to the first one. I hate that too.

You're kind of right about the goal umpires but they are helpful when you're at the game and their position helps tell whether a ball has sailed through the big sticks

I didn't like that over the boundary near the fence got turned into astro turf. Didn't seem like there was any discussion or debate. Just tuned in one season and there it was at every ground

Players that continue to go around the corner and snap for goal when they have a set shot.

Half the time their bloody directly in front and it’s a basic drop punt set shot. Take the dam shot and learn the basic skill of a drop punt without having to run around the corner!

Especially as a forward in the top league for our sport in the country, if you can’t execute the basic skill of a drop punt goal, you shouldn’t be playing in this league.

Fair enough if you are on the boundary but anything within a 45 degree angle should be a regulation set shot.
