I really wouldn't be rushed to get Doedee signed. He's a medium/loose defender long term which is not a position that holds much (if any) value, and hasn't shown anything which suggests he can switch to a high value position. If he does show signs of being able to switch to one (midfield would be the only option due to lack of height) then it's a case of sign him ASAP.

Right now, it's most likely a case of us offering him 450-500k at the end of Doedee contract, and Doedee staying as that is close to the max he could earn in his current role (I'd have the absolute max at about 525-600k). Equally, if Geelong are willing to give us a 1st + 2nd, I'd be comfortable letting him go. He's very replaceable by virtue of the position he plays after all.

Personally I wouldn't wait till his contract is up for renewal. I would present him a new contract and with good money well before his renewal date. Let him know that we are offering him extra not because of his contract ending but because thats how we value him.

Just listened to the trade radio podcast and you should hear Damien Barrett cheerleading his disdain of our club - thinks the crows will bend over and just let him walk for late 1st or maybe 2nd rounder because he will tell all about the camp if not and apparently we will be lucky with that result. When we do get a great deal for McGovern much in excess of what that clown thinks - I will personally tweet barrett and tell him he is a flog muppet and should get a new line of work as he is poor at the one he touts himself in

Heres the thing - we don't. Cheney could play that role well, Kelly could play that role well (Kelly kept Doedee out of the side last year doing the exact same thing FYI). Hell you could find state league players that can play that role to an adequate level. That's not to downplay Doedee as a player, as i'm absolutely estatic with how he's developing, but he isn't irreplacable. Irreplacable is only for your Rances/Dangerfields/Kennedys types.

Unless we have something to hide and want it to slip through to the keeper undetected, his trade valuation is laughable. I don’t thnk we have anything to hide, so can’t see that happening. Yeah, you can actually rebuild without bottoming out. If you have a decent talent spread across the age ranges within your list, you shouldn't necessarily ever have to tank for draft picks.

You can maintain a winning culture and add quality talent to that environment.

It’s pretty hard to add the very best that only comes from top 5 picks though. We got Gibbs but way past his best I’d say.
