Sorry to intrude, but this idea of keeping McGovern and playing him in the SANFL if he sooks and then trading him out in two years sounds a bit far fetched.

Wouldn't it be more valuable to send him off now for a mid-first rounder, perhaps turn that into a pick high enough for Rankine or Lukosius and call it a day?

If you go with the holding onto him tactic, don't you run the risk of him spudding it up for two years and then no one takes him for more than a pick in the 30s?

In comparison to the Gibbs situation, Gibbs was happy to stay another year until a deal was made and therefore his stock didn't fall due to bad form or sitting in the reserves. I think the McGovern situation isn't as cheery.

Why do you think McGovern isn't as professional as Gibbs?

If anything, Carlton were worse to Gibbs in denying his trade on compassionate grounds than the Crows would be in denying one because the club offering massive sums to move won't actually come through with equitable value in picks.

I don't think anyone genuinely believes McGovern would suddenly become a spud. He'd still be first 22 for us, every week.

My point exactly, his trade value diminishes and then you end up getting not much for a guy who could have gotten you a first round pick two years prior.
Give it a rest!
This isn't the '80s anymore. These are highly paid sportsmen, if he throws a tantrum (Serena style) he just hurts himself with other clubs and lowering his value. Just like Gibbs he will play the best he can and hope the next year to be traded if we can't get him to change his mind.

To make it simple for Carlton supporters;
Throw a tantrum: lower his value to other clubs and/or less money he'll get.
Play at his best: gain in value and so more clubs want him and more money he'll get!

I definitely understand holding out for the best deal but what I'm worried about is you guys not getting sufficient bites this year and then ending up with a net loss by the time you trade him.
So basically this post can be loosely translated to;

“Trade mitch to Carlton for well unders... and im begging you... please dont make SOS eat a massive shit sandwich this year for his contemptuous behaviour toward the crows in 2016/17 with the gibbs deal”..

Ah, no, sorry... GAGF’d.

If Mitch is dumb enough to tank his entire career then its mutual destruction. It wont happen. No club would touch a bloke who is so unprofessional.

What a dumb comment.

Or he spends another year at the Crows, and managers to enjoy his footy here and decides he no longer wants to get traded.

The point is there are no guarantees in the future, therefore the risks are the same for both parties.

Id trade

McGovern for Parker

Few picks thrown around maybe even a Mackay as a sweetener

Anyone got a number i can dial sydney on?

The fact there was so much noise around this early and there is no genuine reason being provided for a trade, ie no family ties to Victoria, hasn’t requested WA etc, makes me think that he was offered a boomba deal by a club during the year and it’s just a formality on how he gets there.

Said club (Carlton) won’t want to let a decent player get away when they finally nominate their club/left with d!ck in hand having offered big $$ during the year (to agent) only to not be able to workout a trade. Imagine all that’s left is the formalities, much like Hanneberry.

If he throws a "Serena style" tantty that's fine. She at least keeps trying and is bloody good at what she does. He effectively has done that already.

The Kyrigos one where he gives up is the risk to us, and there aren't many professional sportspeople who do this...it takes a special kind of wayne kerr to do this, especially as frequently as our local tennis "heros" do

Yet you get 2 years of performance. I know performance isn't rated as highly as draft picks at Carlton, but at the afc, we like to win March-Oct, not battling for the offseason cup with the Pauer

Spouting more crap no doubt.
This board does lack posters with real intel, I’m know there are some and this generally is shared by PMs. You read the Carlton board for example and there seems to be 2-3 posters with runs on the board. Instead we have horses, horse trainers and horses arse.

And as we know noble likes to overpay.

Brisbane well stocked on key forwards after investing very heavily in that area with first round picks.

Only way bris want mcgovern would be to turn him into a defender but i suspect gov wants to stay a forward.

We’re more stocked for Key Defenders than Key Forwards. We’ve got Harris Andrews, Darcy Gardiner, Josh Walker, Matthew Eagles, Jack Payne and Sam Skinner.

Up forward, Hipwood and McStay are the main two with some sort of talent. McStay is really close to a break out but he needs to work on his kicking seeing as we are now persisting with him as a forward.

Apart from those two, we only really have Ballenden, Fullerton and Skinner depending on which way we choose to develop him.
