Sorry to disappoint you .....you tried so hard to get that PP too

Now, I wonder what state league players means.

Is that mature, or is that anyone who has managed to play in the state leagues this year? That dramatically changes the worth of this ruling as it could turn it from utterly worthless to a mini draft similar to what GC/GWS got earlier this decade.

After all, I doubt any club is going to trade anything for a mature aged state player. Why would you after all? Even with a fluke like Tim Kelly, it's still going to be rather worthless.

Interesting to see that it looks like both Carlton and the Suns will only be able to recruit one mature-age player each. Suns were hoping/expecting to recruit 3 players. It does specifically state that those players can then be on-traded for draft picks. Doesn't that defeat the purpose ??

I wonder if CEY is part of a trade to get GC's pick 3.

Mature age big bodied midfielder who would walk in as one of their best players.

He would be of more use than any State League midfielder.

At least this way it doesn't push every other teams pick down, it's not creating picks out of nothing. Still pointless though as these teams need mature bodies to make then semi competitive over the next 2 years, not 18 year olds who won't have an impact for 3 years.

I think you're agreeing with me, but having first access to take a mature-age player, which has been identified as an absolute need for both clubs, but then being allowed to on-trade for a draft pick doesn't make much sense at all. Especially when they are likely to land with a pick in the 40+ range if they were to on trade whichever player they take. Then what, draft an 18 year old with a mid-range pick who is more than likely a longer term prospect still being available with a pick that low ??

If Carlton want Gov that bad then
1- this year 1st rd, with maybe something back (Melb Pick)
2- Pick 25 plus next years 1st nothing going back.
3- Bad luck and a Phone call to Gov manager find a club willing to do a deal.

I kind of wanted them to get a priority pick if I'm honest though and a fairly high one.

Nah it's a great result.

It forces them to cough up proper compensation for McGovern (not some pathetic mid-round pick or an end of first rounder), or he stays.

Either we get in the box seat to grab elite SA talent, or a highly valued contracted player stays at the club. The middle-ground option is removed.

If you want it to be better, go to the Blues board and sip the salty tears from their posters.

Its like their season has failed because they didnt land a PP. :drunk:

The Priority Pick battle was Carlton's grand final
