Needs to spend the next 24 months playing just Shield and County cricket to try and build a robust level of confidence and technique (with bat and ball) for the first class game. It’s the only way I can see him ever having the possibility of another chance at Test level.

Doesn't need to do any of that.

He hasn't done it so far and still keeps getting picked. 31 tests and counting

Never really looked comfortable batting in test whites. Just a matter of when he ll hrt out. Cheap wicket really

Why not Marcus Stonis? Or Maxwell. Test all rounder is really obsolete these days. A bowler that can bat well at times is a better term

Looked solid in his first couple of tests, looked great in two tests last Summer. Has looked very ordinary in the rest.

Stoinis hasn't done anything at FC level to warrant selection. Maxwell could be worth a shot, but Wade is more deserving.

I know we like to rag on MMarsh here but I blame it on the selectors for destroying any confidence he had left. How could you put a player that is out of form into the team? Back into the shield and country cricket circuit for 2 years minimum.

I don't get the attacks and booing on Mitch Marsh. He isn't deliberately failing and he's not selecting himself. I don't feel sorry for him - he's had experiences and opportunities that literally thousands of kids dream of. He just isn't good enough yet. The selectors must do him a favour and drop him. In fact, if they pick him he should (but understandably won't) decline the selection. He also should relinquish the vice-captaincy. I heard Kevin Roberts talk about "selection integrity" this week. There is no integrity of selection whilst M.Marsh is in the team.

I hope he's dropped, spends two years at WA demanding a case to be reincluded (he's only 27) and if that happens I'll be right behind him - right until a case for someone else can be emphatically made.

Cummins is more than useful as a batsman (and looks to be on the upswing) and his bowling stats are Lillee-esque.

Marsh has a batting record not much better than Cummins (just over 4 runs per innings) and looks to have little upside in this area. His bowling record is not even in the ballpark as an "all rounder". By way of comparison, the legendary Doug Walters actually averaged 29.1 runs per wicket for his 49 test wickets. And he was regarded as nothing more than a useful trundler!!

I don't want to shit can Marsh because he isn't responsible for the more than generous treatment he's got from the Selectors over the years but he just doesn't cut it as a test player in either the batting or bowling disciplines.

We have our All rounder and it's not Mitch Marsh.

On the body of evidence available you would have to think that Cummins could make just a good fist of the No 6 batting spot as Marsh, Maybe this is the future for Paddy?

Should’ve been a used car salesman because he certainly can’t play cricket...
must be embarrassed that his daddy gave him a baggy green..
it’s likewatching junior cricket where the more your dad does the more you get looked after

I do feel that a few things need to be cleared up.

1. The state-vs-state bs is exactly that, bs. There's no real conspiracy to select only NSW players in the test cricket team, and while Victorians (me included) want more Victorian's to be represented in the test team, most of the best players come from NSW. Just because a few spuds from WA get selected, it doesn't change that fact. Cricket and Rugby are the primary sports in NSW.

2. The booing of Mitch Marsh was not a state-vs-state driven initiative, it's because he's a garbage cricketer, despite how nice he is.

3. Langer made a massive clanger when he made Mitch Marsh the VC of the team. It's arguably one of the all-time great test cricket blunders in Australian cricketing history.

4. The fact that Mitch has played 30+ tests is a disgrace in itself. Yes, he has plundered plenty of runs off the Poms and looked a really good prospect back in 2014 when he hit the scene, but as has been made perfectly clear here on the boards and by the experts on Fox Cricket, he's only good when leading, he's useless at carving out an innings.

5. He's arguably the least deserving test cricketer in Australian history, and arguably the most overplayed.

6. Australia's desperation for an all-rounder has set Mitch up to fail, without a shadow of doubt. He cannot succeed because of the expectations of the public. But after 30 tests, you're expected to contribute more than a dozen runs and at least take 1 wicket from nearly 30 overs.

I understand the sentiment of why we shouldn't blame Mitch Marsh because he didn't select himself etc, but what about his atrocious decision making while batting for his career and to try and save a Test match? No-one else is surely to blame for that.

I'm not saying we shouldn't blame him, on the contrary he's due his stick for being a bog average cricketer, and anyone that plays for the Australian test cricket team deserves that scrutiny. No one is ever going to turn down the baggy green, it's one of the highest honours. But anyone with half a brain can tell he's well out of his depth, so there's blame to be appropriately apportioned across the board.

Geoff is his old man and an Australian selector ... helps getting in the team when dads picking the side
Um.

I don’t know how to answer morons.

Geoff has never been a selector for the Australian team while Shaun and Mitch have played.
