MLB Season 2022

Feel like the Guardians have blown their chance of beating the evil empire. Going back to New York and giving the momentum back to the Yankees makes it difficult. The bright side is that it looks like it'll be Taillon on the mound for the Yankees, up against Civale, so the pitching match-up probably favours the Guardians, especially as the Guardians can turn to Clase, De Los Santos, and Karincheck out of the bullpen. Still, they're going to have to overcome some unfavourable odds to get by the Yankees in order to play the waiting Astros in the ALCS.
Huge odds. Their chance was today. Just feels like NYY are just going to go nuts offensively Game 5

100% get your point. Making the wildcard ‘harder’ and longer would be the idea here. However, players don’t seem to do so well with rest then those wildcards who have none. Definitely showed by Phillies just building momentum every game.
Baseball isn’t really a sport that has ‘home’ advantage. That’s the beauty of the game. 9 innings with huge rotations. It’s just luck and concentration in the end at times.
LA Dodgers are the prime example.

Having a 161 game season does somewhat merit a tighter fairness for those that finish 100+ then v those only just winning 80-90. But hey, wildcard round is hugely fun and entertaining, even ridiculous. It’ll stay for a long while. You want more of Phillies and Seattle’s stories then that of Dodgers’ and New York Yankees, for sure. Hard to not be romantic about baseball.

Actually baseball is the one sport that has an actual advantage for the home team...they get to bat last. Obviously great pitching can overcome this.

Has anybody been to an Aces game or local Aussie game?

Might go watch a game.

Long overdue.

I have been to a couple of Melbourne Aces games at Melbourne Ballpark. It is a fun experience but it's not the best ballpark to watch the game.

In the good old days of the ABL I went to many Melbourne Monarchs, Melbourne Reds and Melbourne Bushrangers games. I actually tried out for the Monarchs before concentrating on my medical career, and played with and against a lot of ABL players.

Either Jon is saying he doesn’t know that the LDS has existed as a 5 game series (in the case of Dodgers/Braves) for many, many years, he doesn’t know that non-division winners play in the wildcard series (in the case of Mets) or he’s saying that the Dodgers, Braves and Mets should have all all received a bye into the 7-game LCS on account of winning over 100 regular season games? 😂

Perhaps he prefers old school no division balanced schedule

Top record from AL
Top record from NL

Solves his problem

Also ignores the fact that in the AL there are three teams still standing...the three division winners.

Gone 9:30pm in the Bronx. I wonder if the MLB will simply delay it to tomorrow. Seems to be no updates from the twitter accounts of the MLB or the Yankees about the start time.

yep delayed till tomorrow 4.07 NY time

Indeed.

Likely to be more of these delays if the Phillies, New York or Cleveland get into the World Series. Game 7 of the World Series is currently scheduled for 5 November, which is pretty far into autumn in the US and some of the northeastern states of the US might start seeing some rain, snow and cold by early November.

Upside for the Guardians is that they can now start Bieber if they wanted to. Guess Tito will have to make a call whether he wants to save Bieber for game 1 of the ALCS if the Guardians make it, or whether he rolls him out now to try to get into the ALCS.

No point saving someone for a game that might not happen.

The counterpoint is that you get a couple of innings out of Civale and then turn it over to the bullpen. Clase, Stephan and Karinchek are all rested.

I'd be very annoyed if I went to Yankees Stadium, sat in the rain for a couple of hours and then got told the game was called off. No mention (it would appear) about refunds or fans holding tickets for the game being given free entry to tomorrow's game. Heck, MLB's main twitter account still hasn't said anything to confirm the game has been postponed. It's been announced via their MLB Communications twitter account.
