Texas Rangers associate manager Will Venable and Guardians bench coach Craig Albernaz are reportedly the finalists for the vacant manager role with the Miami Marlins. The Marlins beat writer, Craig Mish of the Miami Herald, tweeted that he is not aware of the Marlins considering other candidates at this stage. The MLB discourages teams from announcing significant news on days with a postseason game, so the earliest we might hear about the hire would be after game 4 of the World Series (assuming that the Dodgers sweep the Yankees).

The New York Mets are in agreement with RHP Chris Devenski on a minor league contract with an invitation to 2025 Spring Training. Devenski pitched for the Rays in 2024, putting up an ERA of 6.75 in 26 2/3 innings, with a 19.7% strikeout rate, a 11.5% walk rate and a 25% ground ball rate. Devenski was designated for assignment by Tampa Bay at the end of June and signed a minor league deal with the Mariners. He did not pitch again in the majors in 2024, but worked well in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League, putting up an ERA of 2.35 in 23 innings, with a 33.3% strikeout rate, a 10.8% walk rate and a 43.1% ground ball rate.

The Cincinnati Reds announced that they have reinstated infielder Christian Encarnacion-Strand and Matt McLain from the 60 day IL, and to open roster spots on the 40-man roster, the Reds have designated LHP Brandon Leibrandt and infielder Amed Rosario for assignment. The moves were necessary because both McLain and Encarnacion-Strand are on rehab assignments in the Arizona Fall League and they have reached their maximum rehab time, necessitating the move to add them to the 40-man roster.

The White Sox are also looking for a new manager and they have crossed two names off their list. Former Miami Marlins manager Skip Schumaker and Cardinals bench coach Daniel Descalso are out of the running to fill the vacancy. It is unclear whether Schumaker withdrew his name from consideration or whether the White Sox decided against hiring him. However, it likely means that Schumaker will not be managing anywhere in 2025, but he'll likely find another role for his skill set if he is open to other roles in 2025.

Who would want to manage White Sox in the current state? Yikes. Good luck to anyone that wants to commit murder to their own career

There's only 30 jobs, and right now only two vacancies. Heaps of people would leap at the chance of being a big league manager.

People hate the Dodgers because the owners give zero ****s about the luxury tax and take full advantage of no salary cap. I see a club that will piss off a lot of people for years to come. The owners shouldn’t be the reason why.

I get the intent because Rizzo or whoever else was next wasnt gonna get anything.

That was a brain dead decision.

Everyone knows Stanton is a sloooooow base runner.

Rizzo is a patient hitter and at the very least can work a hbp or ball.

The Mets and Yankees have virtually the same payroll as them. The media pretends the Mets are a scrappy underdog though.

Apparently Freeman wanted to re-sign with the Braves but his agent lied to him about their offer. The Dodgers probably were involved in that.

Huge play by Teo Hernandez to cut down Stanton at home plate.
I'm actually going to have a crack at Teo Hernandez in relation to the play.

Sure it was excellent, but at the Mariners last year he couldn't catch a routine fly ball to save himself and was one of the worst outfielders in the game. Then all of a sudden he's making clutch plays in a world series game at his new club.

Speaks more about the player than the play itself.

I don’t. There’s having payroll and having payroll wisely.
Dodgers have got genuine stars that can hit and walk.

Yankees are embarrassing themselves with Stanton on max, Rizzo still on the pay, plus Judge’s glaring contract.
Add in Chisholm Jr, who’s overrated as everything. Verdugo is another trash signing.

Would rather they go after Alonso, maybe have a play at Trout (he should’ve gone there years ago).

LOL he swings at the first pitch and out. The bottom of the yankee lineup are spuds.
