Gus could be perfect. In fact if we don't use it for Angus we could use it for Broady!

Broady is the Cobra.

SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!

Also, monfries should be mongers. I like that nickname.

I'm loving that in interviews he's already referring to the club as 'we'. Talking about 'we had lots of injuries last year' and 'we had a tough draw last year' whereas a lot of new players/staff would say 'the club had lots of injuries...'

Monfries isn't a spud or a gun. He's a perfectly acceptable AFL footballer. Nothing more, nothing less. We've got our own Michael Doughty but up the other end of the field.

Predictive text converts Monfries to Mongers...Welcome aboard Gus Mongers

I've been calling him Anus Wantfrees for years, so I guess yours isn't so bad.

Good cheap pick up, definitely worth a shot.

South Australian as well which is a plus. Get some Port Adelaide mongrel into him and he will hopefully go alright.
i like that a bit of port adelaide mongrel. i think he will be a good pick up for port

I think that thread should now be called..."You killed Kenny you Bastards"

In anticipation of an improved 2013 we should have a "spuds who tear them apart" thread where we talk about which of our players called spuds by our own fans during 2012 or the trade period tear the opposition apart.

Good pick up guys!

Gus is a great player and one of those players you can count on kicking a goal when you need it!

This year he didnt have the greatest year but its due to learning a defensive forward role which is a big bonus to add to your team! shutting down back line players for your key forwards to get more of it is always a bonus.

Great club man and always smiling will add lots of guidance. Sad to see him go but great to see him be able to come home and play in front of his friends and family most weeks now!

*BUMP*

Wellity. It's still early days but, his Port Adelaide career to date:

Games: 19/19
Disposals: 339 @ 17.98 (career high)
Marks: 77 @ 4.05
Tackles: 61 @ 3.21
Total Score: 35.17 (career high)
Total Goal Assists: 18 (career high)

- Winner against West Coast
- Go-ahead goal early in Q4 against Sydney
- The Showdown goal that stands with any in Port Adelaide folklore
- 7 against Geelong at Kardinia Park

Love Gus. Gives us consistent quality B+ grade performances with the occasional A grade game whether he's playing in the midfield or up forward. Stands up with important goals when it matters, especially in recent weeks. Flies the flag more than anybody else on our list, despite the fact that he hasn't even been here for a year yet. And all of this for pick 48!

Prophetic post.

Fantastic effort by Gus this year... I put it down to him being my buddy and he knows I'm watching him very very carefully.

Season isn't over yet buddy Gus, so my adjudication is yet to be made and the finals beckon. :D

Not just Port folklore, it's being mythologised across the AFL. Watching/listening to a few games over the weekend there were continual references by commentators to a kick needing a Monfries-bounce.

Someone do this! Moore and Lobbe would definitely have noms by now.

Has fast become one of my faves.

Tim Watson, more than once, has referred to him (affectionately) as a "bit of a different kat" without elaborating. I'm confused. Anyone have any idea what he means? Cheeky? Cocky? Bats for the other team? Prankster?

Sneaky chance for an AA. Every time we have won in a close one this year he's been involved in the winning score in some way. Continually puts himself in a position to kick the winning score, won't always kick it but you know he's brave enough to give himself the chance.

Never understood the hate on Rhode for offering Monfries a 4 year contract. Do people not understand that we will simply not attract players over unless there is something contractually in it for them? Players don't just uproot their lives and shift clubs for shits and giggles. We had a choice: offer a standard contract and watch Monfries run around for Essendon this year, or offer him a lucrative contract with long term stability for him and his family and watch him kick 40 goals and finish 5th league-wide for score assists for the season playing for the PAFC. Well played talent spotters, well played Rhode and more importantly, well played Monfries.

Bill was the steam shovel, Gus was the snail. ;)

Sage, Portia. Sage.

TheFVK So you think $400k per annum wouldnt do it?
Nope.

If we've identified a 25yo proven player we want in our team, I don't understand the reservation in securing his services long-term through his prime. We either want him or we don't.
