Are you really claiming that this proves your whingeing that this was a bad decision to be right? What an utterly ridiculous thing to say.

We absolutely should have foreseen this completely unprecedented event in the history of world sport and taken it into account when deciding Monfries' contract length back in 2012. Rohde you hack! Wingard's 3 year contract is too long, what if he gets hit by a bus tomorrow? #sackdavies

Oh yeah, but I've been copping shit about wanting to trade out Lobbe during the trading period all day, so I thought I'd try a ride on the hindsight express myself.

I never wanted the club to recruit 'Monfrees' when we were a 'piece of shit' club, pre 2013.
Not for the first time was my judgment wrong.

Since wiser minds recruited him and, after seeing the service Gus has given the club, I cant deny he has now become a true PAFC stalwart to my mind; equal to so many unsung PAFC clubmen.

His example, ie: running back with the flight of the ball mark in the 2014 Prelim against Hawthorn epitomised his character and set the example for all of what is expected from players representing the PAFC.

Respect.

Hopefully Gus & Paddy will still be able to socialise with teammates & coaching staff etc during this ban. It's not like it's an automatic restraining order?!?

Just barred from club premises and club functions afaik.

What's he stuck on at the moment ??

60.

Assuming he'd have been fit and in-form this year that's at least 15-20 games.

1 or 2-year contract extension to see him out, that's that's another 20-40 on top.

Would've needed a lot to go right, but hey.

To be fair, nobody knew this ban was even a remote possibility when we got Monfries, whereas it was a very real possibility when we looked at picking up Ryder. Heck, we used the whole debacle as leverage for him to walk out on his contract.
Therefore the hindsight argument doesn't apply to the Lobbe as that was explicitly considering the risk of losing Ryder to sanctions.

Only if you pretend there was a general consensus that Ryder would be suspended at the time we had that argument, which there most assuredly was not.

There doesn't need to be consensus. I for one didn't think Ryder would actually miss any games, in that any possible suspension would be back dated and balanced by provisional bans. However I still recognised there was a chance of losing him for some time if the bans were heavier, and I absolutely was against the risk of replacing Lobbe with some plodder simply to get some draft pick, as we were looking at a genuine premiership assault in 2015 and 2016.

I think that was the position of about 95% of us.

Yep, but I didn't know who specifically so was only referring to myself.
Then you need to put that statement in context with the rest of what I said regarding the unacceptable risk of going in to 2016 without an AFL standard ruck on the list.
