Angus was at the club last week,

And as soon as he met one of the ex-players who now works at our club, straight away he spoke to Rohde and Cripps and said "we have to have this guy".

Said the same thing happened last year with Brad and JMac.
Stuart Cochrane?
Also, are you saying that the ex-player said this to Rohde and Cripps?

i can remember when you got change from 20cents for a pie and a coke....(slow monition flashbacks in black and white)
So do I

Yep.

When the players come down they are taken on a tour etc, and the club gets a feeling of them as more than just a player I guess.

Something all the Essendon supporters say is he's a top bloke with a good head on his shoulders.

Hopefully he will be a talented and hardworking senior player the young guys can look up to.

When other clubs are talking about landing Goddard, key position players or future stars through the mini-draft, it still makes me feel bloody envious that the best we can hope for is a mid-aged flanker. I think he'll turn out ok, but consider that the two GF sides are just about to strengthen themselves - the Hawks albeit for only a short time. The Bombers have landed two enormous additions to their team (Daniher and Goddard) and Melbourne took Viney as an absolute steal.

Would love for us to land a really elite talent.

Toumpy. :(

Congrats to both clubs in the good faith all parties have shown in this trade. But we still have alot of ground to make up. Monfries is a forward. He is to slow to play mid and not quick enough off the mark keeping up with nippy hf flankers in the backline. I would have been happier with his arrival if we had have kept Pearce. Monfries doesnt fill the needs of loosing both Chappy and Pearce. I see it that we are still two down going into 013. We need a tall back and an outside runner.

Could have drafted a guy who has been perenially injured and has been on the downward slide for the last two years and a loose flanker prone to making skill errors in tight situations who is expected to be a key shutdown defender....

Though wouldn't be hugely surprised to see said loose flanker to thrive at playing a purely shutdown role.

I'm happy
Half his luck if the money is right
Solid player
Better than the jokers in Hitchcook and Phollops we have there. Axe them for sure
Probably Brett too now
Better than those 3, so goodpick up
Pick 35+ is usually a raffle
We botch it up anyway

If it wasn't for free agency, I think it would have taken more than pick 48 to land Monfries so I'm happy enough with this deal. He has something to offer, and I can see him playing a lot of footy for Port. And it looks like the club has taken out some insurance in case things don't work out by including performance targets in year four.

I consider Monfries to be a solid second tier player, and second tier is probably the best Port can expect to do through free agency. The club will find it difficult to land a big fish unless that fish is a South Australian, especially an ex Magpie. It's the big clubs that will land the big fish, and the smaller clubs will fight for the rest. It was no surprise to see Goddard go to Essendon.

My thoughts exactly..

Forget the boak contract I think this is
Good call.

My workmate is a close friend of pearce and his contract is 420000 a year not 550000 and that the contract monfries got was what pearce wanted but Rhode refused to give him four years. Said he had wantedd to stay a one club player but it was port who didnt want him and lied to him about no one getting four year deals when they had already offered monfries one. Let 's hope monfries is a great pickup cos it sounds like we lost pearce over it and rhodes contract stuff ups

Imagine a fit Gray, Monfries and Jurrah (if he remains out of gaol) creating havoc in our forward line.

I literally hate monfries.

He is a nothing bloody footballer, no leg speed, no skill set that says he should be playing AFL but the prick keeps bobbing up and influencing games. Gets up your nose with the I know I am good attitude but he isn't good. The fact though is he knows how to play football and has a solid skill set. Pick 48 is a steel for anyone who at age 25 has played 150 games. Essendon obviously needed to find salary cap space to cater for Goddard.

Happy to have someone at Port that people love to hate outside the club.

Guys i know sometimes the skills of Gussy let him down, but for pure pressure,in and under no fear tackling and can kick goals,he is a bloody good player! VERY well liked at the E.F.C. by teamates, staff and members.

I want to thank the P.A.F.C for doing a Trade for Gus when they just could have taken him,i have a lot of respect for the Power and i hope he kicks ass for you guys in 2013 (just not Vs Us)!....Good Luck GUSSY!..........................:)
