Well doctors are only human after all, they don't know everything...he was simply giving his opinion backed up with evidence...

i think LARS is a good idea. however his recovery period should be extended till late season/finals and both 100% physically and mentally.

This would probably offset the reasons behind why he decided to do it in the 1st place. when done next week, 3 months will be mid/late April. With a full AFL season ahead he's no doubt aiming to get back to playing midway through the year. Who knows though, as Bond said - they're not putting a time frame on his return so we'll have to wait eagerly to see how he progresses.

Jeezus, he could realistically be back on the spin bikes 2 weeks from today.

All in time to play in our maiden premiership team :D

Larkins didnt really say anything that was earth shattering - all pretty much generally accepted comments.

Unless he was misquoted by a journalist he did seem to categorically rule it out.

"It's not appropriate to do a LARS for a third reconstruction on anybody. It's never designed for that," he said.
"All the things you need to do to tick the boxes aren't there for Morabito."

Fantastic news. I come out of back to back to back meetings to hear that Mora has decided to go with LARS. Just shows the determination and the type of people we are grooming down at FREO

Morabito's Dad said:
“He was pretty close (to retirement), but he made the decision to play on, we didn’t push him into it.
“I just told him whatever he wants to do, the decision was his. He had to be happy with it and not make a decision to please anyone.

Maybe so, but he is also a doctor
meaning he managed to stay at uni for some time and answer questions some other 'doctor' deemed correct. Yep! trust him implicitly.

Medicine is a pretty grey field, it's not maths.

This is possibly the best post I've seen in all my years of reading BigFooty.

It is a science, the practical application of maths. The issue with medical diagnosis and treatment has always been information, patients want a simple answer to an ultimately simple problem but only providing a small amount of details. Larkins is expected to take a guess at an injury while observing a limp and reading his experience as to what other players with THAT limp had. The poor guy doesn't stand a chance.

I put it to you that with all the information, a doctor would always get it right because they would have punched the data into the computer. Building a scanner that will capture your entire physical condition will be the biggest advancement in human kind since nuclear power.

r.

The poor guy shouldn't be taking money from channel 7 to make uninformed guesses about people who've never been his patients. He's a disgrace to doctors everywhere.

Except that we don't fully understand all diseases. And diseases do not manifest the same way in every person. And Doctors are human and capable of making mistakes.

The human body is not a machine and cannot be treated effectively if it is regarded as such.

We will have to agree to disagree on this point. I believe everything happens for a reason, even if that reason escapes me for the rest of my life - mechanically and biologically that is.

Sure, everything has a cause - genetices, diet, posture, running gait, stress, etc. But correcting that cause is not so simple.

He just said he wouldn't recommend mora getting LARS because it will be his third and for it to work effectively there needs to be adequate native tissue. Simply stating what research has shown.

I wasn't really referring to his comments on Morabito. More the guesswork he's paid for throughout the season.

Regardless of the medical vagaries and conundrums I am rapt that he's giving a go.You would have to assume Lars has every chance of being successful with Mora or our medicos wouldn't OK it.
