The Barlow and Palmer comebacks were pretty massive, I remember welling up a touch on the Barlow one considering how massive that injury was in comparison to the season he had versus the years of not getting drafted etc.
The game where Barlow broke his leg is one I watched from a pub in Melbourne. I can recall the unadulterated glee of the Vic pub goers. So his comeback was special for me too!

Great to see Mora out on the track running around, but I dont see him playing a game this year. Why risk it?

Obviously there is something going on structurally for a completely repaired ligament to tear 3 times. Now the super ligament isnt going to tear but it could lead to further complications (soft tissue injuries??) down the track. Surely they will be super conservative with him and manage his workload and wrap him in cotton wool till they can be 100% certain that there will be no more problems. Expect to see him playing a half a game of wafl every now and then whilst keeping a real close eye on his recovery and then hopefully a full preseason then ready to go in 2014.

He is only 21 if we get this sorted 100% he can still play for 9 or 10 years.

Suma suggested he'd be in full training by the end of March. If he's in full training then the medico's have deemed the joint to be 100% ready to go. Why on earth would you rest it for another 12 months? The poor kid would go insane!

I suspect he'll be eased into the WAFL by late April so, if he doesn't have any hiccups, he could be competing for a spot in the big leagues by June.

I agree. Will probably play a fair chunk of WAFL, which will obviously be good for him, then once he starts finding consistent form, builds his fitness up and the knee is no longer an issue, he will come back into the team.

Ill preface this by saying i am no doctor and have no actual knowledge in the area but...

His completely repaired ACL has torn 3 times which suggest that something is not right down there and something is putting tremendous strain on that particular ligament (might be the way he runs, maybe the joint itself is out of kilter). Now he has a new ligament that will never break, but the root of the problem will inevitably refer somewhere else and may cause other issues in his quad or hammy or back.

They have fixed his knee so the ACL won't snap but now they need to build him back up so that his body is running 100% efficiently. This is why I think they will bring him a long very slowly very closely monitoring every aspect of training and recovery and taking no risks (much like they did with barlow returning from his broken leg)

Like I said he is still extremely young and if they manage him correctly he could still play for 9 or 10 years. Believe me id love him to come back by round 11 as much as the next guy but its that kind of short sightedness that hampered the careers of many before him and I think we are better than that now especially with a valuable asset such as Mora.

Before the third tear he appeared in unbelievable nick. He cant be that far behind in match fitness at this stage.

imo after three tears (for the club and for himself) he needs to get on the field. The more time he spends on the sidelines this time around the greater the toll will be for him as a person (obviously i don't know the dude). It seems to me the sooner he plays the sooner he'll be able to get his head/body right

I agree. He shouldn't be far off. IMO this is probably his last chance and he's chosen to keep playing with that risk, so lets get him out playing as soon as his fitness/skills are ready to go and not risked in the WAFL either (he was a #4 pick for a reason). I want to see him playing a 2nd/3rd tall (i.e. off the bench for Mayne etc.) in the forward line (more straight line running) against GC in Rd 6 and see how he goes. We should kill them regardless. If he doesn't cut it and needs more time building up his skills etc. then so be it and he drops out of the 22 but we shouldn't die wondering and leave such a talent on the sidelines unnecessarily.

Yeah, I get what you're saying. But, if his body is ready for full training in the next few weeks, then his entire leg must be in pretty good shape. Obviously there's a chance of soft tissue problems in that leg, but, if he's fit, I can't see any benefit in holding him back. An entire year in the WAFL would not be good for his confidence. He needs to know that if his body is fit and his form warrants selection, then he'll be given a chance to play AFL.

Who knows, he might have niggles in that leg all year that keep him from playing at his best. But it's also possible that by the time he's played 4 or 5 senior games for Peel, his form may be impossible to ignore.

I would go as far to say we should only play him as a sub in that game once the edge is taken off and then possible wait two more weeks and then reintroduce him to a whole game against Melbourne in round 9 for some bruise free footy.

One could also be inclined to think that if there is something more to his knee and he is at full fitness by April/May - what difference is 12 months going to make? If it's genetic then time won't heal it and this would purely prolong his frustrations before eventually giving up. He's got nothing to lose by being up and running mid this year.

Yeah I'm very much of the opinion that when he's declared fit he should be given a chance as quickly as possible. If his knee goes again you'd say its all over but at least if he gets a game he got the chance to get back out there which would be better than sitting in limbo for another 12 months.

the snippet was mora saying that it was talking to malceski and others who'd had the procedure that convinced him LARS was a good option.

We can be sure that when Mora is fit enough to return he won't simply be given a game ahead of another player unless he is a better option.
First target is get fitness right followed by match fitness then, get his form to best 22 level.
Only then will he come in for consideration.
There is no point playing Anthony if it weakens the team and i reckon that is Ross' philosophy too.
