Good evening to you – the wonderful denizens of Mt. Buller.

Tonight we take just a little time out from doomscrolling social media and feeding our Pokemon nanab berries to reflect upon another season of Mt. Buller brilliance.

Season 33 is my sixth completed season as Captain of this incredible club and I simply can’t describe how proud I am to continue to lead. I probably could describe it, but it would require a lot of quite complex words and I’m not quite sure I’m capable of forming them.

Our Season 33 was one of great individual performances but – more to the point – fantastic team cohesion and fun hangouts in match threads and around the place.

Through the season, we managed to produce a second place finisher in the Fred, a Beez medal winner and three All-SFA representatives. We snagged a spot in the finals and managed a plucky Elimination Final win.

Sure, we fell short of the ultimate glory, but I’m firmly of the belief that winning is for losers anyway. That’s what I say when we don’t win anyway, and I’m sticking to it.

So what are we doing here tonight? Ah yes, recognising the great contributions our little digital family members have made to all of us throughout another season.

This was a season in which we both won and lost.

We won by welcoming the helpful and high-class haydo to our squad (albeit temporarily as he moves on to whatever this abomination of a new franchise is). But we lost to the same franchise as we farewelled (hopefully only for a short time) our dear Callums_Guns .

I want to take a moment to thank Callums_Guns for what he’s done for our club over the past 6 seasons. He’s been a very significant contributor to our club culture and the place just doesn’t feel the same without him. Come back?

I also want to thank Headless , without whom this best and fairest count would not have been possible. His weekly match thread write-ups/summaries are the basis for tonight’s vote count, and the work he put in every week to keep us up to date is absolutely invaluable. Big thanks also go to haydo for jumping into Buller and doing our weekly post counts.

Tonight, as well as the B&F award (The Deestroy Medal), we’ll be recognising our Season 33 contributors across a number of areas…

So – go to the cupboard and locate that half-used packet of cinnamon you had almost forgotten you owned. Pour it into a small porcelain bowl and add a generous serving of raw sugar (don’t be shy now). And then spoon that over some prepared stewed apple that you intuitively made earlier in the week. Find an accompanying beverage of your choice (I’d recommend a glass of tap water). And get PSYCHED because it’s about to get real.

While we wait for the ceremony to commence, it’s a great time to reacquaint ourselves with a fine piece of music, written and performed for you tonight by Proper Gander and Headless .

For a special treat tonight, we’ve organised for a singing contribution from the Mildura West Mute Choir who will lend their barely perceptible yet angelic voices to what is already quite the feast for the ears.

This has become a club anthem of sorts, so feel free to SING ALONG…

We kicked off the new season against our biggest and oldest rivals: the West Coast Wonders. The match thread was an enjoyable one, with many Wonders plus Grand Uncle Horace providing engaging banter throughout the week. SSwans2011 even created a highlights video of the best Foundation Cup moments - truly a production fitting the occasion.

Before the bounce, both teams paid tribute to ex-Demon Deaneus!, before the Wonders got away to a quick start. The Wonders had more than double our score at both quarter time (12-25) and half time (25-53), before we made a bit of a comeback in the third (40-57 at three-quarter time). Ultimately it wasn't enough, and the Wonders ran away 14-point victors. We were declared moral victors, of course.

For the Demons, stand-out sim performers were PaythePerryman on debut (24 disposals, 6 marks, 6 tackles), Bluelegs off a wing (24 disposals, 5 marks), and Hate in the ruck (12 hit-outs, 22 disposals, 4 tackles). Interestingly, Hate individually doubled the Wonders' hit-out tally.

Prolific posters for the Demons included Headless, Proper Gander, Tarkyn_24, sante, and Callums_Guns. haydo also enjoyed an excellent return to the club - unfortunately all the inside knowledge on the Wonders proved less successful than hoped.
