My 2008 Brownlow Medal - Cooney and Harvey tie

It'd be intersting to see the Champion Data leaderboard. It not always accurate, but it was fairly accurate last year.

My final standings:

Top 10
26 > Brent Harvey (Nth)
24 > Gary Ablett (Gee)
22 > Jimmy Bartel (Gee)
20 > Adam Cooney (WB), Dane Swan (Coll)
19 > Scott Thompson (Adel), Simon Black (BL)
17 > Joel Selwood (Gee), Matthew Richardson (Rich), Leigh Montagna (StK)

Fairly beleivable top 10, think your being a bit generous to Richo as I can't see him getting that many votes, probably same in regards to Selwood. Otherwise, I would imagine thats pretty close to the mark!

24 - Gary Ablett
23 - Jimmy Bartel
22 - Brent Harvey; Nick Riewoldt
21 - Adam Cooney; Lance Franklin
20 - Simon Black;
19 - Dane Swan; Brett Kirk
18 - Scott Thompson
17 - Joel Selwood; Sam Mitchell

Thats what I get.

i still think black may win it with around 25-27 votes. possibly a three way tie between bartel and boomer. It's a lottery this year, its going to come from black, ablett, bartel, boomer, selwood or a riewoldt, smokeys are joel corey

I've seen your rundown of Harvey votes, but have you posted a rundown of Ablett and Bartel?

It would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Edit: And you seem to have downgraded Harvey from 28 to 26. Where did those 2 votes go?

Quick best case scenario critique for Harvey:
Round 3 - 1 vote at best - Sewell and Lewis best 2 on ground.
Round 4 - 3 votes (from Roos board)
Round 5 - lets say 3 votes
Round 6 - 0 votes, only 3rd best on Roos board and that's not even counting Swans
Round 11 - 1 vote at best (Ablett and Mooney well in front)
Round 13 -Lets say 2 votes
Round 14 - Lets say 2 votes
Round 15 - lets say 3 votes
Round 16 - 3 votes
Round 17 - 1 vote from Roos board
Round 19 - 3 votes
Round 20 - 3 votes

I think 25 tops, although that is a best case scenario.

well clearly if buckley got 26+, goodes and ricciuto obviously got 26 + too

If you had bothered to read the thread, you would have seen that someone has already pointed that one out.

For mine it is between Ablett, Bartel and Harvey. Ablett missing 4 weeks will hurt though.

Well spotted, I ****ed it up, Harvey should be 28. Ablett 26.

Will give a rundown in a minute. Be a brief one, as I'm about to head out the door for work.

Ablett: 2, 1, 0, 0, 3, 0, 0, 3, 0, 3, 3, 3, 2, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 3, 0, 3

Bartel: 0, 3, 0, 3, 0, 0, 1, 2, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 2, 3, 3, 0, 2, 0, 0, 3, 0

Cooney will be flying on roughly 16-22 votes after round 14 and most likely leading the count. However I only have him polling in one game(with the slight possibility of another) after that point.

I doubt he'll have enough to hold on and I expect 3-4 players to run over the top of him.

If you could wager on the leader at the halfway mark of the count (and I wouldn't be surprised if you can) I would be loading up on Adam.

Yep, read the above post. Read the wrong columns in my excel spreadsheet. ;)

Heheh no worries.

It may all come down to the Swans v Roos game!
I didn't watch it myself, but not too many sites I went to had Harvey on 1 vote let alone 3 votes.

Its reasonably early so if you have access to an in-running market, that is the key game.

Ablett: 2, 1, 0, 0, 3, 0, 0, 3, 0, 3, 3, 3, 2, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 3, 0, 3

Bartel: 0, 3, 0, 3, 0, 0, 1, 2, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 2, 3, 3, 0, 2, 0, 0, 3, 0

Interestingly enough, you gave Ablett 3 votes in the last round and 0 to Bartel.

On the cats board, they gave 5 votes to Bartel and 0 to Ablett.

What was the rationale for those votes?

Game by game:

Rd 1 vs. Port Adelaide:
Ablett - 24 touches, 8 contested, 10 inside 50's, 1 goal (2 votes)
Bartel - 15 touches, 9 tackles, 6 clearances, (0 votes)
Gave 3 to Corey and 1 to Cassisi

Rd 2 vs. Essendon:
Ablett - 34 touches, 7 contested, 5 clearances, 7 inside 50's, 2 goals (1 vote)
Bartel - 38 touches, 10 contested, 9 marks, 4 clearances, 5 inside 50's, 2 goals, 3 goal assists. (3 votes)
Gave 2 to Matthew Stokes

Rd 3 vs. Melbourne:
Ablett - 29 touches, 12 contested, 1 goal, 4 clearances (0 votes)
Bartel - 30 touches, 10 marks, 6 inside 50's, 3 goal assists (0 votes)
3- Chapman, 2 - Corey, 1- Wheatley

Rd 4 vs. St Kilda:
Ablett - 26 touches, 4 inside 50's, 4 tackles (0 votes)
Bartel - 31 touches, 9 marks, 4 inside 50's (3 votes)
2 - Selwood, 1 - Hunt

Rd 5 vs. Sydney:
Ablett - 35 touches, 17 contested, 3 goals, 9 clearances, 4 inside 50's (3 votes)
Bartel - 27 touches, 12 contested, 10 tackles, 5 clearances, 5 inside 50's, (0 votes)
2 - S.Johnson, 1 - Selwood

Rd 6 vs. Fremantle
Ablett - 15 touches, 10 contested, 6 tackles, 1 goal (0 votes)
Bartel - 21 touches, 9 contested, 7 tackles, (0 votes)
3 - Selwood, 2 - Sandilands, 1- Kelly

Could have given the 3-2-1 to about 9 Cats players. Admittedly, I switched off after half time.

Felt Ablett's contribution on paper had more chance of standing out, 9 clearances, 5 inside 50's, 2 goal assists and a goal (the first 3 stat categories seem to have a correlation with the votes moreso than any others in recent years) as opposed to Bartel's 5 clearances and 4 inside 50's.

Not sure why K.Cornes seems to be up there with the top vote getters. His best performance is 13, last year when the Power made the grand final.

Pavlich is another who traditionally hasn't polled well in good Fremantle years.

FWIW here are my final standings

Harvey 26
Bartel 26

Ablett 25

Cooney 24

Cant see how a team that won 3 or 4 games will have two players getting that many votes.
Think that your final standings are very wrong.
