They have air bases on the eastern seaboard as well. Why cant you understand this. Why would they stretch our small airforce over such a large area. What does Perth have to offer? nothing.

When a wars happening you have the installations...of an airport. Well done. So does Townsville and many more. You cannot fight a war if you dont have the armoury to do so.
*Snicker*

So in the event of war, you are honestly saying they wouldn't defend the NW shelf that would be the only thing providing power and energy to the rest of Australia?

The reason the SAS are still in Perth is because of the amount of oil platforms, ports specifically equipped for various energy requirements, highly likely to be attacked and in need of counter insurgency operations.

Just ask the drillers who have had their platforms invaded by the Seriously Angry Soldiers without them knowing. Lolololololololololololol....

The NW would be the first place attacked every time.

If they conceded WA, where would all these magical materials come from to use in your magical centrelink factories?

What's this I hear about WA providing more export dollars to Australia than NSW and VIC combined, and Australia being technically in recession without WA?

One of the reasons for putting those factories in SA, is because it is thought it would be the last place attacked. Ahahahahaha...

As for the Indonesian invasion.....

Get off the grass pal.

We have Bullsbrook (Perth), Exmouth and Curtin(Derby) airbases which are ready for action within 24 hours.

We have the SAS, the NorForce and Garden Island submarine base.
You are kidding yourself if all of this defensive infrastucture has been constructed simply for us to be overrun.

Make no mistake matey.......the military have NO intention of defending you at all. THERE IS NOTHING TO DEFEND!!

They are far too committed to protecting the worthy states like WA, Qld, Vic and NSW.

You guys aren't even on their radar.

Do you like beef rendang?

Bushie, why is it a problem if a million Indonesian women decide to invade Australia?

Moreover, why are you wasting your time with these West Horshamites?

I am always amazed when reading these kinds of threads to come across newly exposed WH posters who never show their faces in a broader thread.

Consider this: just hand back the entire state of SA to its original owners.

Well going by that theory what does Victoria have to offer in the event of a war...

This should be interesting.

I'm on the Gold Coast but to answer your question....

Firstly it's not South Australia. :D

Victoria also supplies electricity to NSW and your mob so has more valuable infrastructure. It's also Australia's major sea faring port, then there is the population difference, the fact its on the eastern seaboard and I could keep going.

If WA was not digging up its ground for resources they would be brushed aside as well.

That's not like you. Muppet.

*Yawn* your words from West Horsham are making me sleepy exit.

More words of wisdom from the master!:thumbsu::)

West Horshamites are fun Biff.

They are desperate in their endeavours to prove their worth to the nation. But hopeless in the argument as they are arguing from a base of papier mache.

Poor buggers.

Did the OP envisage this thread would evolve as it has.

There's enough in here for some sociologists doctoral thesis.
There have already been several along very similar lines.

Florida and Landry have some incredibly harsh things to say, and many PHD's in the planning field have thrown up their arms in regards to Adelaide. :thumbsu:

Have to agree with Bushie, WA gives us the mining industry. What does South Australia have to offer to make it more valuable then the west?

funny you should mention that. Mining is cyclical. just like Perth was the biggest boom town in the country in 1987 before arsing out again. right now, the cyclical is high. fair enough.

but of course mining isn't exactly anything the country is proud of. it doesn't help with identity, national pride, tourism or any of those things that make people feel good about their heritage.

Whereas the Australian Wine Industry boosts the countries international profile, is an area of massive growth and pride, and boosts the countries image for the purposes of tourism the world over.

and of course, the Australian Wine Industy IS South Australia. :)

I think that you are getting it.....albeit slowly.

The defence forces are indeed split in two. That necessity simply comes from the size of our continent......it is a very simple defensive theory if you look at it objectively.

Notice how all of the Strategic air defence is in the North?

Notice how all of the naval Bases are in the South?

Notice how none of them are in South Australia?

of course not. all the defence stations on the outskirts of the country would need to have failed for anyone to get close to us. we are flanked above and to the sides.

we are the queen bee, protected from all sides. which is to be expected. After all, the only mainland state founded by free settlers would naturally be protected by the worker bees :D :p

but of course mining isn't exactly anything the country is proud of.

Fail.

Australians enjoy one of the highest living standards in the world and part of the reason is that it is a major trading nation. The minerals industry is one of the biggest contributors to Australia's export trade.

it doesn't help with identity, national pride

Fail.

Fail.

Austrade’s Senior Export Adviser, Craig Senger said, Australia’s reputation as a global leader in mining operations, technology and services has attracted many major league players to AIMEX this year.

Summary: Fail, fail, fail.

"Everything you own was grown or mined."

That is one hell of an exceptional, personal tug-a-thon that you have going there.

And #### it....you're right:thumbsu:

Let's just shut everything down and let the Nation bask in all of the revenue that the South Australian Wine Industry has to offer.

All in favour say Aye!!

from an expert like yourself, I'm honoured.

Ah well I love SA as much as the next bloke but truth be told the Australian wine industry is not an area of "massive growth" as you claim Crow-mo. In fact it's in massive decline at the moment. :(

Overseas wine sales down
http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2008/07/07/2296945.htm

Overseas sales of Australian wines are down. (Landline)

The Wine and Brandy Corporation says the latest figures show overseas sales of Australian wine were down for the past financial year.

Around 700 million litres were exported - 95 million litres less than the year before.

The corporation's Lawrie Stanford says the decline was expected, but the sales are dropping at a faster pace due to the exchange rate.

Crow-mo the tribe has spoken. We were winning before you got here. We've voted you off the team. :D

And plus we don't like players of the pink oboe so naff off.

#### me dead - now you are killing your own arguments.

But fair enough Toots, actually all credit to you for accepting the inevitable while the pillocks flummox.

It's just a matter of whether you go East, West or Gay.

They are just brilliant at this stuff, aye TWITA

And the gay bit is a given.:thumbsu:
