Just got back from the game. was watching on the wing right above the interchange bench.
Observations: pretty bruise free footy apart from poor ziebell. dusty and cotch did some really nice things. vickery is such a confidence player and seemed very down on himself whenever he came to the bench. not sure what it was like on telly, but really hard to see with half the roof open. jack and griff presented really well. reckon edwards needs to stay deep in the forward line. looks damaging whenever he's there. ellis missed some tackles but did some nice things and will be better for the run. they seemed to get it out of our forward line way too easy. no injuries. i think the game is a 'tick' overall.

Still think we are a fair way off being a consistent top 8 team, our biggest problem still has not improved and that is tackling, ffs boys seriously its a joke, i liked the look of lennon, has had a very good pre season and will only get better, same can be said with edwards, becoming one of our better players very quickly, as for vickery ive seriously had enough of this guy, he is an absolute dud, been saying it for years, will not play round 1, the morris experiment as a forward i do not like, went backwards last year so i see this as a bit of a last resort, cant question his competitivness but just dont think he is up to it at afl level anymore, all in all it is pre season but we still have a fair way to go, no injuries the positive, will still beat carlton round 1

Two players that concern me greatly and have done for a while - Vickery and Conca.
Both high draft picks and both are the most unnatural of footballers.
Both were very poor today, again.

But agree on tackling North smashed us there

Yeh conca is becoming a bit of a worry, willing to wait a bit before i crucify him

Good hit-out against good opposition. Not fussed we lost, north were good today. We are ready for 2015, no excuses.
No injuries out of today is great, hope their ziebell will be ok for round 1.

Bring on the season proper FFS!!!!

He just had some concussion, should be fine given it is two weeks away, he wanted to get back out there.

I was at the game today and I can tell you it was really a game of two halves.

The sunny half, and the shady half.

But my thoughts are:
Dusty is an unbelievably good midfielder. Always has time and space, and hits up targets at range time after time.
TV didn't get involved enough to convince me. Griff should have kicked for a supergoal in the last quarter, but he's in the side for mine.
Cotchin looked fine after a slow start.
I'm not sold on Morris in the forward line. He works hard, but I didn't feel he was trapping it in there for us and Norf burnt us on transition a few times. I'd prefer a genuine forward in the spot.
I thought Astbury owned his opponent (at least when he was down the cheer squad end). Might need a couple in the twos, but hope to see him regularly during the year.

Disagree. I thought Conca was good. Got into good spots down back. Got pummeled because of it. But as a small back thats what you need.

Fair points man. But I am continually disappointed with his output considering he was a No 6 pick. I know the order in which you are picked becomes irrelevant, but I can't get past it.

After watching all of our NAB challenge games this is the team I would select for round 1:

FB: Morris, Astbury, Batchelor
HB: Chaplin, Rance, Houli
C: Miles, Cotchin, Ellis
HF: Lloyd, Griffiths, Deledio
FF: Edwards, Riewoldt, Knights
R: Vlastuin, Maric, Martin
INT: Petterd, Grigg, Conca, Hunt
EMG: Grimes, Lambert, Vickery

- Morris has to go back to playing in the backline. He just doesn't hit the scoreboard enough. Lloyd has been doing that frequently even with his limited opportunity so he plays round 1 for me.
-Astbury can play with Rance and Chaplin as he can play on Casboult. Chaplin loves taking intercepting marks so that can be his focus while he is playing on a mid sized opponent to help us rebound out of defence. Rance can play on someone like Liam Jones. Batchelor can play tall or small. He is an excellent rebounder so that is why he gets a gig over Grimes for me.
- Knights selection is assuming he is fit.

I found myself really wanting to beat those campaigners at the end. Oh well. No injuries, solid hit out, still in it despite not playing well, bad umpiring (seriously hate Thomas' ducking into a free kick EVERY time - what a campaigner!) and we still only lost by two goals to a side who apparently is going to play off in the grand final and we are going to 'struggle to make the 8'. Some questions answered heading into round 1. Vickery probably misses out (first time I have agreed with that - however I wouldn't be surprised if they persevere with the 3 talls) along with Lambert. Kamdyn MacIntosh is a smoky to play on the wing but the return of Miles and trimming the side to 22 is going to make it hard to fit him in. Lloyd plays for mine, and I'd bring Pettard back in too, Grimes over Bachelor, Knights an option also going to be a tough night at selection. Griff looks set to explode, seriously how long before he kicks a bag or tears a game to shreds? A bit stronger with his hands and straight with his kicking today and we simply would have won the game.
