On one level there's no harm done - it was only a trial game for the AFL compared to a grand final for the A-League.
But this is very dangerous. The AFL originally had the ground booked, only for Telstra Dome management to take their booking away and give it to the A-League instead - as has happened before with the AFL bounced by rugby union at Homebush in 2005. Seems that any booking of a ground by any sport can be gazumped by another sport putting up more money.
Screwed over by rugby union at Homebush, screwed over by rugby league finals at Homebush, now screwed over by soccer at Docklands. Will the AFL ever win in ground negotiations? It seems the AFL gets f***ed over every time.

What are you on about?

Are you wondering why this accommodation was announced on Channel 10? Because Channel 10 had asked the AFL to keep up its end of the bargain regarding playing the NAB Cup Game on the Saturday Night.

When Channel 10 relented - problem solved.

This has little to do with an Australian Football v FFA scenario - more to do with the cravenness, opportunism and ineptitude of the Telstra Dome management.

I wonder what deal has really been worked out here - do we really know all the details?

Just remember, Ben Buckley and Andy D. are old team-mates from wayback - Demetriou recruited Buckley into the AFL executive you know. These guys would be on good personal terms. The problem here has been Ian Collins stuffing everyone around.

Just like American Football took Gridion to distinguish themselves.
Umm no, no they didn't.

No one in the USA calls it "Gridiron". Gridiron is the name of the field they play on, not the name of the sport/league.

Aussie Rules, Football, Rugby and League...it's simple.

Association Football. How hard is it for Association Football fans to get this through their heads.

Why didn't the afl just move coll vs rich to Friday night.

Then move Bris vs Ess to Carrara on Saturday night. Surely nothing on up there?

Everyone including Ch 10 happy!

You know Riggy, I remember you spent a lot of time boasting how Adelaide United were going to host the Grand Final at Adelaide Oval. What happened? I see you've quit and run, disowning United and trashing the A-League.

Bitter much?

That is just fine if you live in a country where soccer is the number one sport like say Europe.
But here in AUSTRALIA football = soccer Rugby = football in NSW, ACT and QLD rugby in S.A, W.A, VIC Aussie Rules = Football in S.A, W.A, VIC in NSW, ACT and QLD

With TAS and N.T being battle split

Seeing as it's the dominant sport in the world, they can use any term they want. How many Victorians say they're going to to "Australian Rules Football training tonight"

How many Americans say "American Football ...."

No-one, ANYWHERE, calls is Association Football. Fact is that depending on where you are in the world depends on what the word "football" means.

Why do you want to bring up a topic that's been done to death approximately 10,000 on these forums? Who do you plan on converting to your line of thinking?

I was trying to make an argument. At the time Melbon supporters thought that it would happen so they didnt argue back. Now that they've fluked their win they're going on and on about how A-League > AFL (next week)

Europe isnt a country

If soccer was in Winter here it would be called soccer.Even in the first month or two of the season its called soccer. Only from the 2nd weekend of October it magically becomes Football

Football/soccer is a great sport to watch and a pure sport person can enjoy both. A grand final that has 50,000+ must always override a practice match. The right result came through in the end.

Thank god Victoria's state government donated $149 million of tax payers money to building a new stadium for the soccer and rugby free of charge.

We all know their multi billionaire owners couldn't have put in some of this money themselves. Why pay for a stadium when you can get an inept state govt. to do it for you?

$149 million - hospitals? ....not needed. hospitals are in tip top condition.
$149 million - transport? ....not needed. Vicrail is perfect.
$149 million - spent on fire bombers or better bush care? ...not needed. all under control.

I just hope we won't have this clash again. Keep the soccer matches at their new tax payer funded stadium and everyone can be happy (Except the tax payers).

We've tried (South Australians) then they make some excuse to move a game to a Cricket oval in the middle of their season

Somebody doesn't understand the concept of budgeting. The money that went to build the Melbourne Rectangular Stadium would have been spent on sport either way, that's what it was allocated for. You're just sour that it was spent on a badly needed rectangular stadium instead of on the AFL.
