Essendon dont need to worry about that do they?? plenty of members and exposure i would of thought, good chance for the bombers to play some kids and knights to try his game plans, good clash against the lions

yeh but who the **** wouldn't want to win?

I know Carlton have made an artform of winning more games preseason than in the season proper but they are, well... Carlton

I'd like us to win, win, then keep winning

Or maybe the face that he lives in Tassie means that more TV coverage means he actually gets to see the games?

yeh i know where he lives, i meant more that i didnt think the nab was that vital to essendon, well was asking if it was that vital?

All the guys not 100% set in the team and those on the fringes must play. So thats Nash, Slattery, Dyson, Monfries, NLM, Peverill, Hocking, Houli, Rama, etc.

Add some of the middle-aged "certainties" such as Watson, Stanton, McVeigh, Ryder, the two rucks, McPhee to add some experience and bite.

I expect Michael, Fletcher, Winderlich and Lucas to all miss, but I'd like Lloyd to play.

So I envision a side along the lines of:

FB: Chartres Johns Slattery
CHB: Nash Ryder McPhee
C: Dyson Watson Lovett
CHF: Monfries Laycock Gumby
FF: Davey Lloyd Reimers
ONB: Hille Stanton Peverill

Int: JJ/Peverill Rama Hocking Houli Lee Dempsey

Quite frankly, that side doesn't have a single 2007 draftee, but is still chock full of youth and fringe players. Before any 2007 draftees get in probably Hislop, Jetta and Lonnergan are shots. And tha team is excluding Welsh, one of Peverill & JJ, Lucas, Michael, Fletcher and Winderlich who are all probably in or close to our best 22 as well.

So I wouldn't really expect to see Myers, Pears et al this year in at least the first game. And who does get in is going to be fascinating to see who is in the prime place to get those fringe positions.

The past few years during our slide, we've had shocking NAB cup results. It's time we put a few games together under more home and away type conditions leading into the season proper.

This is particularly important for us given that it gives the youngsters a chance to get up to the pace of senior footy.

I understand that it's just pre-season but I expect a better result this year.

With the 9 confirmed out and an interchange of 8, we will play 26. This should give plenty of opportunity for all involved to put their hand up for round 1.

God i'm looking forward to this.
I mean the Cricket has been pretty good but it just doesn't match the excitement of seeing a Footy match. Nothing beats that.
Hell, i'm even pumped to see the Collingwood game on Friday night. And i can honestly say that that has happened before!

So i'm really eager to see how the boys fair in their opening NAB Cup hitout. Hopefully we can take some winning form and confidence heading into the season proper.
But what i'm most looking forward to is just watching Essendon play some fast freeflowing attacking Football under Knightsy.

Who's making the hike up to the Coast to watch this one?

In the article on realfooty it sais our side already has been selected and that: Fletch, Welsh, Watson, Winderlich, Neagle, Gumbleton, Davey, Stanton wont be playing. McVeigh will also be kept out of midfield to give youngsters a go.
Basically our whole midfield is out so i expect to see all 06 Draftees bar Gumby and a couple from the 07 Draft to play.
When will we able to know whos playing??

yeh i know where he lives, i meant more that i didnt think the nab was that vital to essendon, well was asking if it was that vital?

I just want to see essendon win against lions, cause i think if we win against brisbane we will be on tv the following week, etc. As i live in tassie done get to go to many games. Altho i ahve a couple trips planed this year, incl Anzac Day.

In the big scheme of things the win isnt vital as we are resting players, but brisbane is resting jonathon brown. It would be nice for Knights and co to start the year off well even if the presesaon games dont mean much.

so lloyd, lucas and mal r playing. Interesting

I imagine lloyd would want to captain the team, and Lucas will be required up forward as No Neagle or Gumbleton to replace him. Will be interesting to see if Knights trys Johns in the forwardline with Lucas and Lloyd, or down Back with Mal Michael.

then who will be the chf? Mcphee?

wouldnt mind seeing that to be honest, mcphee will do a great job in the forward line, if there is no lucas, lloyd, neagle or gumbleton i expect johns would go forward but if lloyd is playing i would expect lloyd to be our CHF given that knights said he wouldnt mind playing him up the ground and probably johns as FF with mcphee as a HFF.. we have so many options in our forward line its crazy
