Same old problems. No answer to an opposition big forward. Absolutely zero forward line structure. Pedestrian like midfield. Mcintosh and Jones underwhelming to say the least. Sure its the NAB Cup, but the sides are both nearly full strength, and Carlton are horribly overrated.

Anyway, ill take heart from Jz's performance and the fact that four points were not on the line, but its still worrying that the same old problems as last year are evident tonight.

Don't you worry about a thing, coz every little thing is gonna be alright. Carlton have burst out of the blocks and won two night flags recently, and have gone on to be shite once the 'real stuff' comes around.

Just shake the bloody cobwebs off!

I don't think anyone is worried, but the performance was that bad. It was a typical North Melbourne performance. When they are good they are like a million dollars, but when they are bad, they are utter shit. It also looked like Laidley is going to persist with a few things he was supposed to be rectifying over the pre-season. North can be a very frustrating team to follow at times.

Was bemused when we continually seen the likes of swallow, power and rawlings regularly play in the centre square.

could of used the NAB cup especially when we were flogged to tinker with the midfield structure.

who cares just the bloody nab cup for christ sake

agreed. big deal. it would've been nice to win, but at the end of the day, its about getting it right from Rnd 1. We dont know what phase of our training the guys were in, we dont know who was done what in terms of training programs, we dont know what training CarlTank had done, had they set themselves to win the NAB cup etc...

folks, get over it, NAB cup. Enjoy the weekend..:thumbsu::)

Our major problem last night was not enough runners in support. Every time our bloke got the ball in the middle he was surrounded by a swarm of Carlton players. I will put that down to the "heavy training workload" - makes sense.

Too many dodgy handballs. Always did that one too many short handball which caused a thumble & turned over the ball. KICK THE FREAKIN THING!

zero talk for a few sequences. you would see players running toward goal, held up by a carlton player, stop and turn, look for a free player then get taken down from behind because of a lack of communication. It is the NAB cup, still is a concern though. It'll turn around I quite sure.

I'm not overly concerned that we lose last night. Carlton played well but we appealed to apply little pressure.

We fell down in the midfield again. Would have liked to see more of Ross and Athony.

There is still issues in the backline. Again a key forward has kicked goals.

There must be a young player who could have been tried at full back.

On the positive JZ looked the goods and he will bring some joy to the supporters this year.

You guys can build a really great team around Z. This kid is going to be a gun, he has STAR written allover him. Love the way he looked so comfortable against men, was hard to believe it was his first game.

I just hope that I don't see that rubbish again in the proper season because I'm still not over last year's round 22 and Elimination Final losses.
Anyway I'm excited that Jack Zeibell could be the next Chris Judd or Cyril Rioli

nab cup dont really mind too much. if it happens rd 1 against the dees though well... lol will mind then.

Left last night quite concerned. However it was a NAB Cup game and we had said that our training program is being targeted for March. Therefore will watch the next few pre season games with interest.

Our first 7 games are in Melbourne.
1. Melb MCG Away
2. Bulldogs MCG Away
3. Hawthorn Telstra Home
4. Essendon Telstra Home
5. Richmond Telstra Home
6. Collingwood Telstra Home
7. Port Adel Telstra Home

Need to be at least 4-3 after Rd 7 to be in the hunt.

Looking at the first 7, we could just as easily be 1-6 as 5-2. Very hard to know whether too much should be read into last night. Was a near full strength lineup, but then again was a glorified practice match. Either way, we need to play 10 fold better than yesterday in Round 1.
