West Coast V Essendon 30 points - If this was a H/A match at subi i'd be going for the eagles but i think Essendon will take it more seriously than Eagles, Knights has already indicated that he will play something approximating our best team, except obviously with an emphasis on being cautious injury wise. Interestingly WC will be without Cox, Essendon will be without Hille and possibly Ryder (depending when his child is born), so the Ruck contests in this one could be interesting.
Adelaide V Port Adelaide 16 points - Adelaide with some pre-season injury woes and more older guys that they probably won't be rushing to play in the first game of NAB and Port to get their fans hopes up nice and early.
Hawthorn V Richmond 42 points - Hawthorn will have had all summer to stew about not making the finals a year after winning the premiership and will come out hard or as hard as NAB Cup gets anyway.
Western Bulldogs V Brisbane - 25 points - No particular reason I just think the bulldogs midfield will get them up.

I'm putting the house on whoever Sydney plays.

think you'll find that they'll approach it a bit differently this season.

v carl who have their own concerns, at a SCG-esque small ground.

Syd walloped Carlton last season up here.

Bradshaw knee injury keeps it closer, but with plenty of avenues to goal, looks like the Swans here.

WCE/Ess looks interesting. depth at WCE looks better, Ess exposed, WCE might state they're not interested but with loads of kids (with talent) trying to impress they might just do it anyway..

Natanui has been killing them in the intra club stuff - Ess may be without Ryder which will see WCE with plenty of first use.

Crows have 100pts on Port in the proper stuff, they have had niggles pre-season but have stated they are up for the NAB....didn't hurt the Cats in 09. Old stagers will all play, 3 players who remain better than the majority on the cross town bogan's list.

Dogs/Bris should be a ripper.

How long since Essendon has beat WCE at subi ?

Now I know WCE doesn't think much of the Nab cup matches.

I still think they will be eager to keep there home record over essendon.

Alot will depend on Kennedy who had a slight hamstring this week, but is scheduled to play friday night.

If he's over that injury i think we wll be hard to toss.

McKinley and LeCras where in good goal kicking form this week, add kennedy to the mix for some big man presence, and the foward line looks alot more potent.

NAB Cup is just a glorified practice game IMO. NAB Cup form means nothing come the season proper.

Advantages of winning during the NAB Cup:

- A wins a win.
- Better grounds to play on.
- Better PR and membership campaigns.
- Prizemoney and trophy for the winners.
- Give the youngsters a longer competitive hitout.
- Less travel (ie less country and interstate pracy games and promotional trips).

Disadvantages of winning during the NAB Cup:

- Most teams won't be playing their best 22 so hard to gauge form.
- Risk of injury
- Peaking too early and burning out before finals.

About the only teams I see taking this seriously will be Freo, WC, Port, Melbourne, Richmond and North.

brisbane are a lock. doggies couldn't give a stuff about the nab cup and voss needs to prove to the faithful that he's recruited well

West Coast haven't won a NAB Cup match since 2005.

Case in point: http://www.westcoasteagles.com.au/tabid/7155/default.aspx?newsid=89240

WEST Coast will approach the 2010 NAB Cup as it has for the past four years, with a focus on managing players through to round one of the Toyota AFL Premiership Season rather than chasing pre-season wins, coach John Worsfold says.

With Rioli, confirmed as on-starters. Richmond still may not get within ten goals though - we could really see how bad they are...

West Coast V Essendon Subiaco Friday night
Eagles by 35pts. West Coast will be trying, they make certain statements just to cover their ass in case they get rolled.

Adelaide V Port Adelaide AAMI Stadium Saturday arvo
Adelaide by 10pts. Just a guess, who really knows with these two.

Hawthorn V Richmond Aurora Stadium Saturday night
Hawthorn by 41 pts. Lets be honest, who wants to be the first side beaten by Richmond this year in any form of competition.

Western Bulldogs V Brisbane Manuka Oval Sunday arvo
Brisbane by 21 pts, they seem to give the NAB a fair crack now and again.
