Nab Rd 1 vs Swans - Game Day Thread

Some of our supporters make me sick. IT WAS A GOD DAMN PRACTICE MATCH FFS! The swans didn't win one in what 9 years? I'm pretty sure they did alright over that time.

McClean played on imo the best tagger for a decade and was beaten, move on. He's not in the side to break the lines with his pace, he's there to be the midfield workhorse. Give him a few games to gel.

We looked slow sure but look who wasn't playing Walker, Simpson and Armfield off the top of my head.

Yarran, Robinson and Bower showing great signs. Still have Waite, Betts and Houlihan as forward options.

Played pretty terribly against a side we struggle against on a new ground (was it narrow?) and lost by 2 super goals in a meaningless match.

Heartbroken, give me those nab cup wins of a few years ago any day

Scrappy affair, but games with Sydney are always scrappy

Positives:

Yaz - did really well, creates opportunities from nowhere, just had his kicking off on the night.

Robbo - runs hard, developing well

Lucas - for a player in his first season, ran well and created opportunities.

Bower - continues to develop really well, yes, looks ungainly, but always delivers and knows when to defend and when to attack

Jamo - like an ice-berg, so calm under pressure

Scotland - looks really fit and providing good run

Judd - how good is this guy? Always lifts

Fish - thought he looked a lot better than last year. Provided a target when on.

Negatives

Forward line - Robbie Walls said it, will take sometime to cement the hole left by the gap. However, didn't think the movement going into the forward line was all that helpful, rarely was it down the centre and rarely was it clean, may have something to do with the oval's shape, but when I think about it, we often moved forward from the flanks - just that Fev was that good that we'd still kick goals

Pace - they were took quick and clean. We looked slow. Be better when Simpson and Walker come back in, along with Army, but appears we have little in the way of clean, quick movement

Neither positive or negative, just questionable

Kruz Up Forward - true, delivery to him wasn't that good, but leading off the mark he doesn't seem that quick and 2 easy to spoil, even with his size. However, you don't turn into a forward overnight, think he's worth persisting with because he's pretty determined and has great talent. Pace off the mark is a worry, though

Hendo - clearly very nervous, ie. gave away silly frees and dropped marks, but did some nice things in the 4rd. Generally has talent but played like a bloke who thinks he has to fill the shoes of a two time Coleman medalist. He's only 20 and hopefully he'll get that monkey off his back, because he's reasonably quick and athletic, and has good size.

Browne - liked his run & determination, disposal / decision making was disappointing at times

Warnock - while not dominant, thought he did alright - first game in the Blue and White, very agile for his size, will be good IMHO

just hope our disposal when round 1 comes around is alot better... our fowards had no chance the way the ball was coming into them... anyhow was a poor effort by the boys but it is also a Preseasn game... we didnt have alot of players out there that can turn a game... E.g. Waite, Murph, Simpson, Walker, Betters Houligan...
was a little worried about how we played but its only early and hopefully it was just getting rid of the webs in the closet

i was really happy with our young blokes, (Yarran, Davies, Lucas, Robinson) Yarran is going to be a gun. Robinson and Davies run and hard at it. And Lucas for his first game 15 disposals was very pleasing.

We need Waite back up foward!!!

I saw two problems tonight:

1. hitting a target by foot. I punched a hole in my lounge room wall early in the fourth quarter because I could not take another butchered kick. FFS hitting a man lace out 30 metres away is a simple skill for a professional footballer; and
2. a lack of intensity. Besides the likes of Robinson, who should play every week, numerous players just did not attack the ball. We don't have any real enforcers in our team and I am afraid we may become known as soft.

I think the list we have basically has the cattle to push for a flag in three years plus. Last night reinforced for me that we don't have the skills or the gameplan to take us there. Now I hope to be axed this year for being 1000% wrong because I love the CFC and Brett Ratten, but I don't think he has the prowess to be a good AFL coach.

How about we pay Leigh Matthews $1.5 million to come on as either coach or director of coaching at years end? He would instill the hardness we need and his players hit 30m targets. I will chip in the first 10k, hell if Leigh says he will do it publically I will sell some shares and chip in the first 100k.

I really really really hope last night was just a bad week.

Honestly thats just sad. Its NAB Cup Rd 1. The players have played 1 less match than they should have at this stage, and it was the first real competitive match theyve had. Mistakes are to be expected.

I totally agree it is NAB Cup and therefore should not mean much.

But I don't want to see basic skill errors at anytime. I will praise the club when it does something well (and it does a lot well) but I won't sit back and blindly praise it when I think it is going down the wrong path. I want the CFC to be the most succesful club in the competition and to get that mid 90s arrogance back. I won't tolerate anything less than 100% success. Neither would Dick Pratt. My problem is I don't think we have moved forward since 2008.

I am honestly worried we will be bottom 4 if we don't improve on last night. As I said I hope I am wrong - but go and count the number of missed kicks with no pressure. Pathetic display.

Might be a long season. That house may need a renovation rescue

Am up shit creek without a paddle with the wife this morning.

Might need to get one of those stress balls or a punching bag or something.

Already got the tools out to fix the wall to Geelong vs Nth this afternoon.

3 pigs: lucky for your hand you went straw and not brick!

To Kill a Mockingbird

Funny that, I felt like doing that to Fanta Pants after he scored another one of the Swans goals and all night Channel 10 kept showing all those Gary Rohan signs, and he had that really annoying grin on his face, and that flaming red hair etc ... This whole Fanta Pants hype and the way he played, was Mockingbird-esque ...

It seem's he's Already become a cult figure in Sydney, and he looks like a top propsect, but gee, last night he was really giving me the %^$# ..
