I think he would be more value up front if somehow he stays on the field,he tackles hard and well and he chases well also, I think he is also quite an accurate kick.

I must admit I am big on him up forward I reckon he could make a few defenders quite nervous with his physicality, mind you he makes me nervous with his physicality because I am not always sure he will remain on the field and injury free but if he could there is quite an upside to him I think most of us see that in him.

I wonder if we'll trial Kreuger in defence next year given our current lack of depth.
We may as well if the forward line looks too heavily populated to accommodate him. I must admit I don't really see him as a defender, but if Murphy is unable to continue and Dean doesn't prove as competent as hoped, there may be an opening for Kreuger.

I think he played as a defender at Geelong.

I personally think in that potential, hypothetical scenario it'd be more likely to be McStay going back and Kreugs at CHF.

That's a big call windy, I think big Dan is too valuable up forward. However, there is no reason why Freddy can't be trained up as a defender though, you might be on to something

I worry that he'll be heavily exposed in 1v1 marking contests. Doesn't have the upper body strength or overhead ability to play on tall forwards.

He'd be great on the lead and rebounding the ball out

My simpleton view is that as a modern defender you are expected to take marks and rebound consistently. Kreuger being expected to do anything consistently is a cause of concern for me.

As a forward if he marks even half the balls which come his way he’s doing brilliantly, providing he’s also smashing guys in the process. I think that’s something he potentially can do.

According to Geelong posters he looked completely lost when they tried him in defence. The main reason he came to us was because we promised him we’d play him forward, I’m not sure that being a defender is his go.

Yeah, he didn't do too well there. I was just trying to work out where he fits but in the end, he might not fit anywhere

Krueger has the athletic profile for the role it's whether he can learn to play in a defensive zone.

The main reason we would play him back would be a murder-suicide leap for a mark on Daniher

Seconding this. He's a forward only I reckon.

He doesnt seem to be a good mark...and i dont think he has an idea what he is going to do with the ball when he gets it. He seems to just face goal and kick it long. Of course everyone loves his agression. It's interesting that they still want to see more of him. Obviously they think he has talent.

Agree, he's a natural forward. I recall one goal he kicked this year as he was tumbling forward head over heals in the goal square and still managed to kick the ball for a goal, that sort of goal sense is wasted in the backline.

As an answer, that's a pretty good fit. I think that I confuse his unreliability of his fitness with his general unreliability. I thought about my last comment and I might make a slight adjustment regarding his marking. It's not that he can't mark. He's not a reliable mark. I wouldnt trust him down back.

I think basically that he doesnt think too much. I got a feeling that the coaches think that they can hardwire him to be more consistent and all i say is good luck. I think he's a forward because if he makes a mistake, that it's just a lost opportunity. I personally think he needs to play some amount of ruck or he will be wasting a position, or he'd have to take on some of the defensive duties of mccreery/schultz and while he's manic, i wouldnt rely on him.

His best position is in the grandstand watching his team mates.
He is modern day equivalent of Frank Spencer of "Some mothers do have em" fame.
His slapstick comedy routine of fumbling, bumbling, mistaking the ball drop, falling over and getting hurt while doing nothing is brilliant.
Your right - he doesn't think much!! Just kick it anywhere.

Train him up as a wingman

now that we've dropped Kelly off the list, we need someone to replace steele in 2025....

could he be a big bodied midfielder? I'd love to swing him into the midfield in a grand final and see if he can take out a few opponents before being inevitably injured and out of the game.

This is the trick, he needs to stay fit if he’s going to be any value. I wonder if we could start training him as a ruck, fewer high speed collisions….he’d be a real asset in there if we could teach him the craft. Long way to go though looking at the one game he did get through there.

I had and still have high hopes for Krueger

If he stays on the park could be a massive reason we can go deep again in 2024

Still basically a new recruit

Unfortunately if can't stay healthy that will be it for Kruegs
