Yep. There's a fair chance that we will have our two preferred blokes underdone with very few runs on the board this year.

If Krueger plays well from here, he's a definite chance to hold his place - picking two underdone talls based on form from 12 months ago, would be a bit nuts if you're dropping a bloke doing a good job in one of the roles.

Hopefully they all play well before finals. However, I think it's a lot more likely that we have less than 2 of them screaming pick me with their fitness and form than all 3 of them.
We only need one as long as nothing goes wrong with Cameron and Mihocek, as well as the rest of the list, WHE and Reef for example. Players come back from injury all the time so no reason to assume McStay and Cox will suffer setbacks… it’s just match form that the clock will start ticking on if setbacks occur.

I agree. WHE has played some ripping games as a tall forward this year. Howe looked very good against North. It won't surprise me if we do end up with just one of the 3 - it's what we'll be looking at for the next 6 weeks most likely and we might like it.

Please never again mention the possibilty that Mihocek and Cameron could injured.

To win the flag from here, we need everything to go right on the injury front.

Hopefully we have used up our bad luck and blue skies are ahead.

Probably, but he seems to have improved a heap since he did his ACL... He's a solid player, but no star and can't afford to be far below his best to justify a place if the other 2 are playing decently.
He’s no star but his main point of difference is he doesn’t get pushed under the ball as easily as all the other options. Depending on how he comes back from his knee I think that will be very important trait come finals time when we need to combat those intercept defenders.

Dunno about that. When we made finals in 2010 did we turn to experience in Medhurst or did we back in the rookie Blair who’d taken his spot when he got injured? Did we bring Lockyer back in or did we back our young players?
The current regime seem to get more out of our veterans than Malthouse did in 2010 though.

Maybe but has that been out of necessity because our kids haven’t stepped up?
In a situation where we have Kreuger stepping up in to the role well and Cox coming back from injury but also poor form I’m not sure the veteran will get the nod tbh.

At the start of 2010 OBree and Fraser were carrying the on all duties and Medhurst was kicking 4s .

You need a mix of kids abd veterans to get you through the season, I think Malthouse did it well, but in 2011 he punted on quite a few sore fellas. Geelong seemed to at least as much, paid off for them.

I don’t think the veteran is guaranteed in this situation but he’ll be given his best chance and set up to succeed.

That is true, Fly has got more than most out of our veterans. I thought Howe was gone after the arm fracture - shows Howe good he is. Sidebottom I thought was finished a number of times. Fly really backs them in.

We’re now reaching a point where you can start projecting matchups. Personally against McCartin/ Weitering/ McKay/ Andrews/ Pearce (I don’t think anyone else has one that matters and if they do the club doesn’t) I’d feel most comfortable with McStay over any alternative as low as 70% of his best. I think in that scenario he offers as much contest as Cox or Kruger and frees up Mihocek. The only outlier is a run of 8 weeks in the seniors from Krueger.

If they were all fit and we were playing a final in the coming week - it's Cox and McStay comfortably.

But in 10 weeks time, if Freddy has been solid and Cox and McStay have come back rusty - Krueger is in ahead of either of them.

I sure as hell wouldn't be betting on Freddy, but I wouldn't be ruling it out either.

Agreed, but given timelines if Kreuger’s been solid I don’t think Cox will get the senior time to show he is or isn’t rusty. McStay appears on track to be back first and I can’t see Cox pushing either out on the basis of training form.

The caveat of course being the structural choice because we may just prefer to have two rucks regardless of form v Grundy/ De Koning/ McInernie. I’ve got no idea what structure goes best v Draper/ Goldstein and Darcy/ Jackson because you can’t work over the number 1 and I don’t know how much extra ground level impact we get from the part timer. It’ll at least be good to have options.

The assumption being made isn’t really whether he shall be back… it’s whether he shall be back and in reasonable form. As Sr36 said, many players take a long time to hit form after an ACL…
Different types of players and time off, but the lions are bringing back Ashcroft straight away Be some type of litmus test to see how quickly he begins to perform
