Howe, Scharenberg and Langdon are all above average kicks. Do they take the soft option too often? Yes, but I would definitely not say thy can’t kick. Murphy is no better than them anyway.

In fact I wouldn’t have Maynard as a better kick than those three behind the ball because of his at times horrible decision making.

Guess with this, i see Howe and Scharenberg as talls not mid size defenders providing run off half back.
But with this, i would take maynards kicking disposal over langdon's every day of the week...

One thing stands out with Murphy, so far, and it’s that he’s a smiler. Looks happy in every photo to date, in fact he looks thrilled to be at Pie Land. Like his attitude.

So true for life in general - how great is it when someone beams you a smile?! :)

Apparently it's just not cricket.
Who would have thunk it?
Recruiters going to watch games of players they are particularly keen on.

I'm in shock and awe!

Did you read my clarification?
I did not say it was weird that we had a presence there but the fact they were ALL there.

I was just being whimsical.

No harm intended.

I can seriously see Stephenson, Murphy play and be quite quick to get games, and Murray I get plays too.

All three set to be given opportunity.
I would expect Stephenson to play senior footy in 2018. Thats based on his draft position and plays a position where you can be AFL ready quite soon. Murphy looks to have plenty of game so very hopeful he gets a look in 2018, less certain that Stephenson though

Murray can only be a guess. My guess is someone coming off a couple of seasons in the NEAFL where he hasnt yet got close to AFL selection will probably need to see how he goes in the VFL, thats his 1st step up. He is a pick in hope and I reckon should be seen that way. We paid a big cost to get him and I reckon that leads to unrealistic expectation which is unfair on Murray. If he can end up being half as good as Blair that will be a win.

Considering Smith did ok, can see Murray do likewise.
I think they think he's really really good. That's my basis that he'll get games.
Be an interesting watch.

We should have a few interesting watches this season coming. Make or break year for quite a few of the boys.

I like the way he looks.
Just has a nice way that he carries himself.
Very impressive.

If you could make his photo black and white, I reckon hed look like one of our players from the 1920s or 1930s.

Like an old fashioned footballer.

Very excited about him.

His passing is exquisite.

I think it's a bit rough to say Howe takes the easy option too often, he's improved a lot over the last two years in that area and I rate him pretty highly. Obviously it's the case with Scharenberg and Langdon, although as often bemoaned Langdon's kicking action leaves a lot to be desired in regards to travel-time; I think it's still fair to be bullish on Scharenberg. Albeit in his highlights, Murray seems to get much better penetration than either Scharenberg or Langdon, however we obviously have to see this translate to AFL.

For further context I think the defensive groups ball use is too safe in general.

Only Dunn stands out to me as someone that takes the game on ball in hand (with any level of composure). Howe could maybe be considered one of the less safe players (he’s no Smith that’s for sure), but he rarely if ever takes on corridor kicks or the man on the mark. If we’re improving our ball movement it starts with taking those types of options more often in the back half, IMO.

There’s a spot there for Murray in round 1 if he gets through injury free so hopefully he matches the hype. Like you I’m still bullish on Scharenberg and we couldn’t have asked for much more from him in 2017 after the interruptions he’s had, but 2018 is a contract year so he needs to go up a level. We don’t need him to give us what Murray will, but if he can start to bring that 45 degree corridor kick from stop plays more regularly he and the club will improve exponentially.

Perhaps Scharenberg should start asking himself “what would Adams do?”. If we could somehow blend Scharenberg’s composure and ball use with Adams competitiveness and recklessness when going through the corridor we’d probably have the next modern day great backman!

The "what would Adams do" is very good.
With Scharenberg's composure does sound like a good template. Execute what Adams would do....
Nicely summarised.

Like the kids attitude, just enjoys himself. Hope his talent is just as good, and if so we will have another a grader on the team.
