Murphy has clearly become our most important defender and if he retires he will be a big loss. Who will be our negater?
When I first read this I thought, nah it's definitely Moore, but the more I think about it the more I think your right. Murphy's ability to both lock down his direct opponent AND still know when to peel off and impact the contest somewhere else is elite, and this is why players like Moore can play loose and rack up the marks because they have complete faith that Murphy, and others, will cover.

Did Lincoln McCarthy ever get any weeks for his hit on Murphy that forced him from the game? It was a total accident, but still - if you elect to bump and the head is hit (resulting in trauma) you get 3 weeks min.

I'm guessing you wanted Bruzzy to get 4 weeks yeah?

If it was a bump, then yes. But it wasn’t a bump.

No, Maynard couldn't do anything after he left the ground.

Lincoln visibly tucked in the elbow and put his weight behind his shoulder just as you would if you were bumping to hurt. Now he was clearly going for the ball, and definitely not intending to hit Murphy's head, but the fact that he did means it needs to be looked at under the current rules, right?

To be clear, I don't like the rule, but under the rule that exists, it is an incident that should be reviewed.

No. He braced.

They were both going for the footy - Lincoln did what players should be encouraged to do if there's going to be a collision - turn and brace. Murphy didn't. Can't penalize Lincoln without making the game more dangerous, as it would be telling players that they need to keep themselves wide open for head knocks.

McCarthy didn't do anything wrong.

We can say McCarthy did nothing "wrong" but it was not so much different to Maynard. Neither suspended but outcry over one, crickets over the other. Both resulted in concussion to a player with a long history.

Yeah very different. LM's was an everyday attack on the footy and a collision with a bloke who should have been fully expecting a collision. Bruzzy's was a ridiculously commited launch at a smother that only Bruzzy would do that resulted in a collision that the other player wouldn't have been expecting at all.

i've seen a lot of whingeing over the years when we lost but I wouldnt have expected it when we won the premiership and the bloke actually got off and played in the grand final. I think there's a percentage of pies fans who just like to have the world against them and to whinge about it.

Mcarthy did what everyone should do - protect their head. Murphy never seems to make any effort to protect his head.
