Was it in reference to Ndebele neck stretching? Which is really shoulder lowering? Maybe this is the way to get the bump out of the game?

Ginni should look into this

Didn't he have at least 2 in 2023 alone?

That's my recollection. Against Port in Adelaide, and in the GF. He also copped one high in the Adelaide game this year but may not have been concussed.
Didn't he get one against the Saints too when he got punched off the ball?
It was just the one against Saints (after Camminiti jabbed him) and the Grand Final one, AFAIK.

So two this year, not three.

Seeing as he passed all the concussion testing, reported no symptoms (unlike on grand final day), and was cleared by the club to play the following week, then no, not as far as we know.

The only reason the club knew he had symptoms on grand final day was he told them.

If he kept it quiet they would've never known

I would think that him selflessly ruling himself out of a grand final is a pretty decent indication that he would’ve owned up to having symptoms after that Fogarty incident earlier in the season, if he had been.

As it stands, we have no evidence to suggest there was a third concussion arising from that knock against the Crows.

coincidently, i just watched the game against port when willie rioli hit him.... he just shows far too much confusion and not knowing where he is. He was fantastic in that game like a lot of them this year - especially towards the end when darcy went off the boil. I'd hate to see him retire but he's taking a big risk...

Players have also admitted to tanking their "baseline" ratings so its easier for them to reach it

The thing about murphy is that he is often shown lying on the ground immediately after the incident, looking like he doesn't know where he is. That mightn't trigger anything on the test, but it just strikes me that he has a propensity to get concussions, compared to other players. That whack from rioli that I was talking about, wasn't a hard hit and he looked dazed when he was recovering. It just happens too much to him

If he can't play on it will be devastating as he is so important to our defence. Anyone know when he is meant to be taking the tests to determine his ability to continue playing?

I can understand why his family want him to retire. To be honest, regardless of any tests, he can't take even the slightest knock to the head without being dazed, I would retire

The club does benchmark testing on all players at the beginning and end of season.
I’m sure Murphy has already had additional tests.

Latest concussion theory is that it is the continued minor impacts that cause harm more than the major ones - as told to me by a senior club official.

He was supposed to be tested by the AFL but was overseas.

no alarm bells .. best to be calm.

read the comments (qualifiers) in parenthesis for each of the names listed.

as it 'currently' stands, if injuries cut through the first 4 names then the 'next 4' (kreuger, begg, reef & kelly) will come into play.

murphy: 193 cms 79 kgs (plays tall but very athletic & also covers medium talls)
  • kreuger: 196 cms 93 kgs
  • begg: 197 cms 99 kgs
  • reef: 194 cms 90 kgs (prob. projects as the closest athletic profile to Murph)
  • kelly: 194 cms 84 kgs
the 'next 4' have the physical profile (height /weight) to play tall-back and have had 'some' experience playing KPD albeit none would be at the standard /level of Murphy.

i do agree, though, Wrighty's interest in a Khamis or Doedee type suggests we are looking to further bolster that flexible /athletic / intercepting type defender.

Reef is far more athletic then Murph, Murphy does it through superior positioning, timing and reading the play. Not raw pace which Reef has.
