Aren't we talking about the history of Australia here?

If you like add your VFA flags.
No we were talking about the National anthem, you took umbrage to me saying that using the Magpie song would signify that Aussies are perennial runners up like Collingwood, this is a historical fact whether you like it or not.

The aim is to make finals, Collingwood have played 181, Richmond 86, then the aim is to make the grand final, Collingwood 42, Richmond 23, then the aim is to win it, Collingwood 15, Richmond 11.

And then why would we use a song with "tiger" in it, they aren't Australian.

The aim of any sport is to win it surely, not make finals or the grand final or some such?

I don’t actually have a horse in the race of whatever shit fight you have going here with another poster - I just thought your statement was a bit weird.

Maybe i worded a bit wrong, you have to get there to win it, so the 1st aim is to make finals, then the aim is to get to the grand final, then of course then your aim is to win it.

Anyway, you are right about weird.

This whole convo has turned weird.

Just read the heading. Christ only knows how you guys end up in a shitfight from an original topic about when to play the national anthem. But I’m holding out hope that the power v Crows standoff will appear here shortly.

Nah, next up is Tasmania surely - is Tasmania technically part of Australia? Do they have their own anthem?

Tassie Tiger is Australian, Magpies are as common in England as Australia not too mention my rendition used the term Aussie land not Tiger land.

The Premiership was a cakewalk for Collingwood supporters 80 years and over, for those under 80 its been anything but a cakewalk, for example my club has won 6 flags in my lifetime, how about you and yours;)

My Dad was a Hawk supporter what a run he had.
I dont really have a problem with the anthem, I would choose it over the Kiwi one everytime but thats just me.

Australia is a great place and one of the most tolerant places on earth

but I'm not sure "the white Australia policy" is cherry picking. It was a law brought in response to the violence towards foreigners, specifically the chinese. Hey we wouldn't have become a nation if not for Victoria's hatred of chinese, where chinese were banned from Victorian ports, so the Chinese landed in SA instead and walked across. Thus the need for national border control and thus our nation was born.

In addition the treatment of foreigners in our own military, attacks on Chinese and Italians or shooting at "gooks" is hardly cherry picking. Perhaps you should do a little reading or talk to soldiers about who we actually shot in Vietnam and why. If this was executed in the fun loving 60s and 70s, imagine our tolerance levels in WW1.

Just because we are one of the most tolerant, doesn't mean we don't have skeletons in the closet. We shouldn't be embarrassed by our past, rather proud of how far we've come.
I disagree with the general thrust of your black armband comments in respect of white [if I can use that word] Australia, but this is not the forum for it.

Bur re the Chinese - they were apparently dropped off the coast near the Coorong, to trek across to the Vic goldfields, and many fell prey to the local Coorong Aboriginal tribes. Amazing G&D.

PS on shooting etc - get some context. And don't lecture me about Vietnam - I was there during Tet. US.

Yep for success in the modern era, it would have to go to the hawks song for sure.

Edit: My wife is also Richmond

My Sister and her family are all mad Magpies, just my luck they were all over from Melbourne for my wifes 50th last year when the prelim was played, I not only had to watch it with them I had to watch the replay as well.

Yep, and it starts off, we don't have to be sorry and stick up with all the political crap the mainland does.
