Agree with your needs #1 and #2, but #3 is questionable. We actually have significant HBF depth and Hughes was already irrelevant. Worner is being upgraded and Aish and Wagner are also there. Are we still bringing in the Irish guy? I also think Draper is great cover for Chapman. Our 3 main priorities going into this draft would be:
#1 small forward - even with the addition of Bolton it’s still our weakest area, especially so with Walters retirement coming up and Emmett delisted
#2 wingman - still haven’t properly accounted for Acres after he left, Sharp is obviously a lock but juries still out on NOD, unless we trial someone like Freddy on the wing
#3 mid-sized lockdown defender - with Chappy injury prone and Hughes delisted we are vulnerable in this area
No key position needs so draftees more likely to come in and have immediate impact which is what we need
If we can leave this draft with any of Berry/Reid/Lindsay with our first rounder and Hannaford/Alger/Clarke with our second I’d be content. Travaglia and Moraes would be nice but unlikely to make it to our picks, Boxshall and Gross at our second wouldn’t be bad either but look to be sliding.
Our season vaporised once Treacy, Darcy and Pearce went down. Fair enough.
- Treacy/Amiss have cover from Voss but needs to improve a fair bit.
- Pearce has 3 KPDs emerging to replace him, but I have to say Cox looked dodgy as our #1.
- Darcy in theory has Jackson and Reidy as cover. But in reality using Jackson weakens our forward structure and the confidence in Reidy looks weak. Knobel seems a possible future solution. Darcy is looking like both an asset and a liability.
Those are C solutions to a situation that rag-dolled our season and took us from a top 4 finish to the doldrums over a a couple of rounds.
