Father sons can be done like the past. Interested clubs bid on them before the trade period and the club with rights to the kid must use their equivalent pick in the draft. My head absolutely agrees but my heart loves the father son rule and seeing generational lines play at the same club
But unfortunately it absolutely does erode at the integrity of the draft system
Maybe they could just give clubs the ability to trade for father sons on draft night or something
No concessions or anything just a deal made between the club that selected the player and the club who has the link
If a deal can be made fantastic but if they can’t make one work bad luck
For example Swans bid on Croft last night, so rated him as a R1 pick. If they bid the same before the draft the Dogs R1 pick this year is then forfeited and can't be traded, benefit idls that Croft could join the Dogs immediately. Takes away any stress for the kids and ensures fair price is paid.
With academy kids you could do similar, bid before the trade period and the equivalent pick is forfeited, if a club has multiple players like Gold Coast this year, they forfeit the same pick for each following year. So in this instance Suns would lose their R1 pick for the next 4 years, or they are required to trade for 3 more R1 picks in this current draft.
