Remains to be seen why we've stockpiled so many late picks. Only thing I can fathom is we reckon there's gonna be scope to trade them up with teams desperate for points. Carlton has the 2 f/s's incoming are we banking on them working with us?
Packaging up a dozen late 3rd/4th rounders isn't gonna net us a 1st rounder. Quantity doesn't equal quality in reality even if the points balance out.
Isn't that pretty much what Matt Clarke said it was about.

Matt Clarke has already confirmed why we acquired those picks. Was as you hoped, so we can trade up using clubs that need points

The whole academy system is a joke. There shouldn’t be any fathers/sons, academies or compromised drafts. This is literally the only sport in the world you would see this crap happening.

It’s a very simple fix to make it fairer. Reduce or remove the discount, and allow only picks inside-40 to be used for points. Stops the stupid situation of using points from picks the team had no intention of using anyway.

Starting to agree with this. AFL is hell bent on equalisation but is cool for top 8 teams to just continuously get access to top picks because they are the spawn of some dero that scraped in 100 games for them.

We are so desperate for a F/S I’ve heard we’ve asked if Pickett can be used as a sub in 2024 from a Perth prison.

We'd get the same output from him that we did playing him in the forward line.

Yeah.

The AFL needs to commit to one thing - either go full equalisation and get rid of these compromised drafts or give everyone the opportunity to build viable academies.

Otherwise, you get this weird in-between system we currently have that’s wildly unbalanced. You have a bottom clubs like West Coast that are getting pushed back in the draft while top-8 sides like Bulldogs, Collingwood, and Brisbane clean up with star youngsters using a bunch of later picks.

The AFL needs to quickly fix this situation.

Any rule changes would surely have to be applied from 2025 so as not to adversely affect teams who have traded future picks in good faith around the current rules. Or some other way would need to be found to compensate these teams. Otherwise it would be a complete farce - cue usual AFL farcically corrupt scenes.

lol

This is the AFL remember

So Carlton have 2 x F/S in the Camporeale twins, Brisbane have Levi Ashcroft and another academy kid, Gold Coast have Leo Lombard and Adelaide has a father son in Tyler Welsh.

Without doing the math, I would have thought that our 2nds, 3 thirds and 3 fourths would be the points equivalent of 2 first round picks in the teens, right?

You can see that after the Sun's make a grand final the Queensland teams will lose the ability to match Academy selections in the first round. Nothing will change before they become successful.

Smart by us, strengthened our 2024 draft hand. We expect freo and eagles to be bottom 6.

We now have 1 first-rounder. 2 second-rounders inc freos 2nd. 3 X 3rd rounders ours, freo and eagles. Plus 3 fourth-rounders, ours Ports and Bombers. We have a lot of draft capital to do deals for teams needing points for academy and father-son's.

FMD Camporeale was a ****ing spud and couldn’t hit the tit of a barn door. He was a shocking kick and just happened to play in a half decent side that threw paper bags under the table like it was confetti.

Hope they both get picked up by the blues would serve them right

The question I want answered is why do our players sire such soft**** kids? They've had talent but invariably they've been squibby little mothers boys.

They all live in Northcote, Fitzroy and elements of Brunswick. Little bit of Westgarth when that was a place.

They recycle their sandals there. Explains it all.

So for only the loss of Soldo, based on 2023 ladder we’ve basically turned our 2024 draft hand from:

6 / 24 / 42 / 60

into…

6 / 24 / 25 / 39 / 42 / 43 / 60 / 70 / 74

So let’s presume we will do 1 x major ‘points’ trade for a F/S or Academy kid …. 25/39/42/43/60 is worth 2,121. So we trade that for let’s say pick-7 which is worth 1,644.

That means we end up with:

6 / 7 / 24 / 70 / 74

So effectively Soldo, some pick shuffles and a 3rd for pick-7…. now that’s some good business.

That gives us great flexibility to hit the draft hard if we have a poor 2024 (and even look to trade a couple of senior bodies to further boost our draft hand). Or some great picks for a trade (King/Cadman) if 2024 looks like our list is in good shape.

They’ve done a great job to effectively go back 5 spots in the draft for 2 x F3’s from teams unlikely to be at the pointy end. Kudos!

But what about the compo for Dusteeeeee :drunk::drunk::drunk:

We have Louis Kellaway as a F/S coming in 2025 i believe.

#14 Louis Kellaway (Sturt)
Wing | 182cm | 16/03/2007

vs Vic Metro
"Another wingman who added fluency to South Australia’s end-to-end passages, Kellaway provided his typical outside run en route to collecting 17 disposals. The Sturt product also showed good composure the releasing the ball and was another who went close to kicking a clutch goal in term four, instead hitting the post."

vs Vic Country
"Stationed out on the wing, Kellaway was not afraid to get stuck in when contests formed, but also looked potent when driving the ball forward on the outside. The conditions hardly suited clean running passages, but the Sturt prospect notched up a strong 27 disposals, five marks, and four inside 50s to be one of SA’s more prolific players."
