Taylor Adams arguably better than Brad Hill? You can mount a pretty strong case that there is only 2-3 guys you would take above him if you re-did the draft now. Not bad for a 33rd pick!

Looking at that list, you gotta ask why Hill didn't go earlier?
Yeah. Turned out to be a beauty, grab Gunner and land Hilly! Was this the year we downgraded picks for Gunner?
His development in the last 3 years has been immense. There were questions over his ability to get the ball and dispose of it effectively, as well as his slim frame and lack of defensive pressure. Obviously being in a premiership team helps an outside player find the ball, but he's also improved his running to space to be free to receive the ball, and his ball winning ability. His disposal is still not fantastic, but he is so smart with the ball, and always seems to take an easier option with a kick that he can actually pinpoint, rather than just bombing the ball, or trying to be tricky with it. His tackling and pressure has also improved, but it is still not his strong point.
He went in that draft earlier than was expected, and even in his first year, he looked like quite a raw prospect, but now that he's gelling with the team and settled in, he can play his natural game, which perfectly complements our slower inside mids.
Hey? I am missing something? I thought Hill's inside 50 delivery has been pretty good, if not elite this year. I've grown accustomed to him spotting up a target after breaking away with speed, often at full pace. Perhaps I've got a selective memory and am forgetting his clangers... or perhaps I'm blocking out memories of our former wingman who went to Collingwood as a free agent???
Either way, I don't think anyone would want Clinton Young back over Brad Hill! Definitely an upgrade.

I think Prudster is agreeing with you: Hill is zipping passes into the forwards, rather than selfishly bombing for goals.
Mind you, Id be happy to see the kid bombing one or two from 50!
Whilst obviously not upYep, i'm not trying to insult Hill, it's just he plays more to his strengths, which is not really massive kicks like a Suckling. What he is good at is making the right decision and hitting a targets over shorter distances. I'm not saying he's a bad kick, he's just not at a Sam Mitchell level.
Whilst obviously not up
to Sammy's disposal standard (not many are), I am continually impressed by his crisp selfless passes. We found a gem in Brad Hill.
Certainly seems to hit his targets inside 50 well enough.i was just saying that kicking is not his strongest point
Did you watch his last game? Have you ever tried to tackle Kurt frickin' Tippett?Prudster said:his slim frame and lack of defensive pressure

Did anyone actually read my post? I wasn't having a go at Hill. I was pointing out that there were good reasons he slipped to pick 33, and that he has developed more since being drafted than a lot of the other guys in that draft. He has weaknesses people, even now, and his tackling is one of them. Granted, he is a primarily outside player, but one tackle does not make it a strong point.
As for his kicking, as i've mentioned several times now, i don't think he is the greatest kick of the ball, but he makes up for it with his decision making and smarts. I never said he wasn't a good kick, just that compared to his running, speed, evasiveness, etc., that it is not his strongest point.
Sorry to give the impression I was attacking you - I pretty much agreed with everything you said. I was just stating how much I rate him as a player and how much improvement he has shown so far in his short career. As i said, i wasn't attacking Hill, i was just saying that kicking is not his strongest point, but that he is smart enough with the ball that it doesn't effect his game.
I'm happy with Hilly picking out targets inside 50 and delivering lace-out for them to take a shot 30m out. Leave the big bombs to Smith.I think Prudster is agreeing with you: Hill is zipping passes into the forwards, rather than selfishly bombing for goals.

He certainly has come on in leaps and bounds. In his first couple of seasons I was guilty of being too critical of him 'avoiding' tackling the opposition players. But who could forget his tackle on Tippett (dud from Swans) and his 'not taking a step back' against Kelly (Cats), the two that springs to mind. This kid will continue to blossom and people like myself will pleasantly eat humble pie and enjoy his contribution to bringing more success to Hawthorn FC.Even Wrighty has been surprised how fast Hill has improved/matured as a footballer.
hahaHope you can fix his kicking.
Lucky to be picked in this draft.
