He has pretty good tackle numbers so I think it's less about being bruise-free and there is likely more to it. It is a concern, though if he gets 15 touches and they're all amazing I'd be happy with that.

It's like the Bont vs Macrae, Macrae gets more touches but the Bont makes things happen.
Bont is decent with contested game though.

I understand the want for a genuine mid at our first pick, every side that finished above us on the ladder had more clearances then us, additionally in only twelve games Dunstan contributed around 10% of our total. Johnson or Erasmus would be my picks, but if we get Zak and Jade back to full fitness maybe some games out of Hanners and back in Bytel and Byrnes. I would be happy to take a chance on Wanganeen-Milera and hope for the best on getting our NGA boys. You can always trade for decent mids but the true unique gems usually never leave. I grew up watching players like Winmar, Michael Long and the Krakouer brothers loving there raw talent and energy. Very rarely since have we seen such players really only Cyril, Buddy and Eddie and to a lesser extent but still exciting Tipungwuti. We have a team of many talented but not very imaginative out of the box thinking players (apart from Higgins) so a bit of creative chaos might be exactly what we need.

Cal Twomey’s Phantom Draft is out.

He reckons we’ll take Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera at 11 (over Erasmus/Hobbs/Sinn)!

Is this the silk the Saints are searching for? There's been a group of clubs clamouring for Wanganeen-Milera at the midpoint of the first round who are all keen on the classy wingman, who is the best kick in the draft. It is easy to see why when watching the Glenelg talent: he has poise, precise skills and can step around opponents and make them look silly. The nephew of Essendon and Port Adelaide great Gavin plays on the wing but might start his career providing run off half-back too. St Kilda would look closely at Wanganeen-Milera if he's still available.

If not him? If Josh Gibcus was still on the board the Saints would have to consider strongly, while Ben Hobbs would also be hard to pass up. Josh Goater is another contender for the Saints' spot.

The top 15:

1. JHF
2. Sam Darcy
3. Finn Callaghan
4. Nick Daicos
5. Mac Andrew
6. Josh Rachele
7. Josh Ward
8. Jye Amiss
9. Josh Gibcus
10. Mathew Johnson
11. NWM
12. Neil Erasmus
13. Ben Hobbs
14. Josh Sinn
15. Sam Butler

Owens at pick 29, Windhager outside the top 30.

God I love this

My point is it shouldn't be any of them. Sinn or NWM or Gibcus aren't taking the spot of as important a player.
Sinn likely kicks Connolly to the 2s and Gibsus might banish Battle if Sharman keeps his third tall spot.
NWM is probably not walking straight in and kicking someone out

i'm gonna be honest, i've watched very little of this crop. pretty much highlights packages and thats it.

someone tell me why we'd rank Wanganeen that highly?

he seems purely outside. looks to have very good foot skills, but no real speed. i'm concerned that he can't adapt to the contested nature of AFL footy. every highlight has him getting clean ball, 15-30m off the play. there's no way coaches will let him do that at AFL level where everything is about defencive accountability.

if i was to liken him to a player he's like hunter clark but atleast clark has some ability to play inside and is not afraid of contested footy, if anything he showed this year he goes at the footy for very little regard for his body, for his frame. clark has had issues with the defencive side of his game though, which is probably a symptom of not yet having a good AFL tank.

if i were to sum it up, i feel we'd be getting an inferior version of clark with greater flaws for a position that has no real positional need.

it just doesn't add up.

especially when you consider this guy was still on the board:

In the the highlight reel Hobbs appears to have similar characteristics to Matt Rowell, 2/3rds as good I’d be happy.

Sinns highlight reels shows not only his speed but how he demand the ball as he knows how to use it, similar to the Bont & Dusty, 2/3rds as good as them & I’d be in heaven.

So after playing heads & tails have now changed back to Sinn from Hobbs

If we got Hobbs he probably pushes crouch or Bytel to the 2s once he hits his straps
Not many mids are going to walk into our team in their first year and dominate pushing crouch out , as for Bytel he isn't even in our best team yet so its up to him if he gets a game or not , we cant gift games

fu**, Mac Andrew is going to be some player. Was quite impressed with Goaters highlight reel as well. Then there's Sinn. fu** I actually don't care who we get. The talent this year seems to be deeper then most years. I'm going to be happy with whoever we get.

Looking at the phantoms it's obviously pretty unclear who we're going to take, but there'll be some great options there.

I'm not too fussed about pick 11, if we take Gibcus, NWN or Hobbs they will all be guns. It's the NGAs I'm worried about, just praying we can take them both and finally make the most of one of these draft loopholes.

Here’s the thing for me, for years we waited hoping Billings, Dunston and Acres would become elite midfielders, we drafted KPPs, small forwards as half back flankers after them expecting it to happen. Then it never did.

I’m tired of just hoping guys step up. I’d rather we keep grabbing midfielders until we have a star midfield locked in rather than constantly topping up other areas we are already strong enough in and hoping our current crop of midfielders gets better.

If we take Wanganeen-Milera (or Gibcus for that matter) I’ll back em in and hope they become great players, and if they become better than the genuine mids around them I’ll happily eat my words, but every time we skip on a guy that wins his own ball we become more reliant on the same players to step up in the middle.

Then it’s Bytel cause Steele sure as hell isn’t moving. Hobbs at pick 11 with leadership qualities is one of those walks into your 22 and demands the spot through performance
Madness. Bytel's junior bio is superior to Hobbs so why would people think Hobbs might be better.
Hobbs is the only one I'm dead against actually. Not big, or fast, or flashy, reminds me of Dunny.

Thats interesting, fortunately none of us have a say....but I think we'd be lucky to get get NASIAH actually...

Guys that don't win as much of their own ball have a higher bust rate but his skill set and blood line look like he could be one that defies that. Big gamble though, we have been bad at finding ball winners in the last decade and seem to find plenty of guys that can play wing.

When it comes to SA, our man Tocé has been a very astute judge of talent (albeit for the lower end of the draft) so if he says NasWangMil is worth it then I'm comfortable trusting him.

Wouldn't be my first choice but we need a bit of class and we've seen how expensive class is at the trade table.
Do your linguistic skills extend to German because that is so German in construction?

Calling it now boys. Rooey is gonna win master chef and we are gonna nail this draft. It’s the turning point. It’s coming home

Someone will smother his soufflé just as he's about to plate up. Saints fans don't get joy in their lives.
