can a top 5 player in the league at 24 years old that has dragged a squad of role players to a WCF be one of the most overrated in the league? Yeah nah.
Yet same player couldn’t get a supposedly better squad to the play in last year?

Imagine losing to the Hornets. Yikes

Inexcusable. Up by 9 with 2 mins to go.
Missed so many free throws, with Jrue and Tatum choking late.

Being playing like crap for a while now. Very lucky to beat the Grizz.

* it

Charlotte is such a useless, loser franchise.
Should relocate to Montreal.

Pathetic loss by the Celtics.

Mazzulla is a loser.

We ain't getting past the 2nd round with this pack of pea heart flogs.
Jaylen Brown should be traded ASAP.

Tatum is a serial choker.

🤣🤣settle down.

That loss was coming. They’ll prob go on a 10 game win steak now.

Clippers rocketing towards a 2 game winning streak ... what did they change? Put Westbrook on the bench.

How long has it been since you could make an argument that Westbrook has made a team better?

I don't like how they acquired their team. I don't like their colours. I don't like their uniforms. I don't like most of their former greats. I'm not fond of their commentators. And they play in probably the least interesting state in the league.

But... god damn Sam Presti knows how to rebuild a team. The Thunder are going to be a problem for a long, long time.

He was actually decent on the Wizards.

It's just everyone seems to remember how bad the situation was for him at the Lakers with figjam LeBron unfairly throwing him under the bus.

If he plays at a team and fanbase and management that appreciates him, Russ will thrive/make the team better.

They got the Clippers first round pick this year though (which is potentially a lotto pick)

They will probably flip Giddey soon for something decent and or a better fit for Chet.

Canon Wallace looks like another top young prospect Presti has found.

Still I can't help feeling bitter for Sonics fans though..

Fortunately they will be back within 5 years (so much talent in the NBA these days that it's the right time for expansion, Seattle and personally I would rather see Vancouver get a 2nd chance as well instead of Vegas)

I think they'll probably keep Giddey if his salary demands are reasonable. You need low-key dudes in low-key markets, eg Steven Adams. Might depend though. They do need to get a little bigger, rebounding is their Achilles' heel.

It's not necessarily any one pick that they own, it's the sheer number, and also the number of future swap rights. They own picks or swap rights with Houston, Utah, the Clips, Philly, Miami and Denver, many of those multiples, and owed over many future drafts, when some of those teams will be much older and at risk of falling off. They won't all be that useful, but there's a good chance that they'll hit lottery gold on at least a couple.

Continuously bringing in high end draft talent is not only the best way for small markets to add players, but it also keeps the total wage bill manageable. When Holmgren, Giddey, and Jalen Williams all need to get paid in a couple of years time, they'll still be able to keep adding cheap talent via the draft. I doubt we'll see them sign a free agent from another team for anything larger than the MLE for the next decade.

He got his money, no turning back.

They need to pay homage to their college teams who have represented the panhandle state with aplomb.

OK Sooners
OK state cowboys/cowgirls/cowpeople
Oral Roberts Golden Eagles

Haha, Oral Roberts gave me a chuckle.

Just one more reason to dislike Oklahoma.

It’s wasn’t a better squad though? They lost Brunson and added a terrible Wood, McGee who was bad and a Kyrie late in the season where they didn’t even play many games together.

who's saying he's terrible? who's saying he's not better than most of the NBA?
being overrated is a comparison of ability vs media perception.

also think the 'bad rosters' thing is an overstated excuse.
His 2nd best player for most of last year was who? wood? hardaway Jr? Dinwiddie? It was trash.

As of the 5th of Feb last year they were 0-7 without Luka and had the 28th best defence (3rd last) and worst offence in the league.

With Luka they were 28-19… Without him they were the worst team in the league, with him they were an over .500 league.

Depending on who you asked, you’d get a different perspective.

The fact is he couldn’t get the Mavs to the play in, let alone the playoffs. That’s bad.

One minute he’s dragged a team to the WCF, the next minute he couldn’t get into the play in because he has no help?

He‘s a superb player, there is no doubt about that at all, but to have him immune from criticism as to how things have gone in Dallas is a bit tiring.

Who has a perspective that they had a better roster? Surely anyone who watches basketball can tell you a 2 through 4 of Dinwiddie, Wood and THJ is genuinely bad.

He has dragged them to the play offs almost every year of his career and exceeded expectations every time, huge efforts against the Clippers two years in a row and the WCF birth 2 years ago upsetting the number 1 seed along the way. He missed them once and even then it was because the org decided to tank at the end.

He isn’t immune to criticism, he actually copped a ton this past off season. He also has some things he needs to work on (mainly the defensive end) fortunately he has been better in that area this year.

Also this all started because I replied to a comment stating he is one of the most overrated players in the league which again simply isn’t true. Almost everyone has him around that top 5 mark. Clearly behind Giannis and Jokic. To say he is one of the most overrated you would have to claim he isn’t a top 10 player at minimum.
