See The Thunder have recruited A. Davey ( Essendon), J.Brennan ( Suns),and Djerrkura (Bulldogs) from the AFL. Have got Willie Rioli back from Sth.Freo and also gained a guy by the name of Luke Harder from Port Adelaide (Sanfl), ...senior player at that level with a good reputation.
Also, a guy by the name of Sebestian Gilhaus from Central Districts and Shaq Mckenzie from East Perth.......both have played senior level in these comps.
Could The Thunder strike again !!!
Big challenge for Xavier Clarke in his first senior coaching role.!!!

Brennan, Djerrkura, Harder have not signed

Don't know how they will be able to afford this blokes with the salary cap they have at Thunder

But they should have a good side this season

Hi all

Im back from O/S and keen to see the new NEAFL up and running!!

Here is my predictions under new format

1. Syd Swans - ( watched their intra trial other day - impressive kids )
2. Aspley ( all reports up north say these guys will push for top spot)
3. Southport ( same as Aspley)
4. Bris Lions ( may drop off a little this year as Senior side rebuilds)
5. Syd Hills Eagles (biased)
6. Ainslie ( normally thereabouts - have some good signings)
7.Redlands ( same as Ainslie)
8.NT Thunder ( good recruits - bloody tough draw though)
9.GC Suns ( dont seem to take NEAFL all that serious as a club - will struggle late in season)
10. GWS ( similar to GC Suns)
11.Eastlake (losses will hurt will be competitive at home)
12. Quybn Tigers ( same as Eastlake)
13. Syd Uni ( biased - fingers crossed they suck but seem to be improving)
14. Belconnen Magpies ( have heard major losses and no replacements - will struggle in new formatted comp)

Cant wait for it to start !!

Surely there's some news they could put on the NEAFL website
One would think, maybe still on holidays ??. I see Southport having a Intraclub trial today, have posted two team lists on their site. They seam to have cast their net far and wide by some of the clubs that the lists states.

Gee lets hope this season is as good as ever... with the NT thunder claiming another flag, and big Boof Ewing kicking another 100 goals for the Thunder :)

Think BB is on the money there actually. Pretty sure the job with Brittains came after the Aspley one fell through.
Missing the point Magic. BB said in his post that he went south because of the job falling through. Not so. He went south to play with his brother and is happy to be back at Aspley regardless of the work issue.

I would say the myth about the grand canyon like gap between the NEAFL and the AFL should now officially be put to rest, Zorko gave everyone the clue but now Thurlow off the back of only a number of weeks with the Bombers maintained the same sort of output as he did with Labrador last year against AFL listed players, the translation is easier than people understand. But the 10,000 hours rule is one of the keys, that is it takes 10,000 hours for human beings to master any task requiring strategy and both these young men have played a lot of football.
Someone also just said to me that they are both much too Gold Coast to play for the Suns, I think that is also very accurate.Needed to be born elsewhere.

Canberra Clubs will struggle! Sydney Hills Eagles will be big improvers!!!

You seem like you know what goes on down there Squiggle. Can you give us a bit of an update on how there new coaching group is going and also who the new recruits are?

News on the grape vine down here in Melbourne is the a couple of players from both Box Hill and Casey in the VFL are on their way to Sydney Hills Eagle and a couple from the SANFL

Gday all, an update from the Sharks intraclub...Baxter kicked 3-4 gls...Broadbeach lad Brennan looked good, extremely athletic, Brewer did his usual thing. Geary, Goldsmith didn't really stand out. Burge and Kiel still the guns but a much different looking outfit without Wise, James, Nicklaus and Hughes. They have a handy backman from Sanfl who has some form on Johncock, A ruckman from Casey in the VFL, the ruck stocks at present I think are Brennan, Brewer, Casey lad and Will Wolbers from Morningside. The team lists from a local point of view reads as a whos who from the Gold Coast...

I agree the games between asp, sharks and Redlands will be belters, talent galore, especially when the wellers, dawsons and co from the state 18,s are playing.

Thanks for the update, I have a bit of a vested interest as us up north had 2 Gold Coast acaedemy lads in this trial, Preuss and Agita, both Townsville products as well as Macansh. This has created some good nterest up North as more of our young players are getting oportunities in the south. Must add Joyce who looks like been picked up by Asply from Mormingside.

Surely you are having a laugh LAB - on the back of 1 practise match you have Thurlow as a bona fide AFL footballer?? I hope he does make it and I am not disagreeing that those south of NSW are probably given a far better run at it, but often thats bc to get to a State team at any age is 10x more difficult than playing State footy in Qld. When Thurlow can play a year of good AFL footy and then back it up the following year I might say your assessment is far more accurate. Zorko won 4 B&F's on the back of doing the occasional summer training from what i've heard- he was obviously too good for Qld footy. He is proven. Thurlow - lets wait and see, plenty of blokes have been solid in February never to be heard of again...

Smy I have laughed at a lot things in Qld footy but not this time, whether Thurlow goes on to have an AFL career is dependant on an enormous amount of variables and constants, attitude, opportunity, lack of opportunity, injury, illness, coach (es), new coaches, list management, liking of supplements etc.The point I make is that he not out of place at that level based upon nothing more than stepping out of NEAFL as he is yet to have a proper regime of training at AFL level.
Also I think that west of here is as important to Mckenna and the Suns as is the South.

I happened to watch the 1st half of the Hills Eagles Intraclub game last night on the way home from work. They had a lot of new players and they looked very fit. The game itself was a little scrappy but I suppose that is the norm for this time of the year. Their 2 new ruckman and centre half back looked like great pick ups. Not sure of their names.

Anyone know of any pre season games for the QLD clubs that are happening?
The only one that i've heard of is Lions ressies v Aspley as a curtain raiser to the Lions-Swans game @ caboolture.

It was good until the lights went out

8th March—Southport Vs Redland @ Fankhauser Res. 1:30pm

15th March—Redland Vs Aspley @ Casheezi Park 1:30pm

22nd March—Redland Vs Brisbane Lions @ Casheezi Park TBA

Thanks LAB looks like Redland the only club keeping us up to date
Also looking at their website I see they've signed Andrew Scott and Phil Lovett. Good pick-ups they will be very competitive again.

I believe Aspley have a intraclub this Friday night...Southport are in camp down in Byron Bay ( was broadbeach's place of choice last couple of yrs ), Redlands intraclub likely to be around week before first practice match. Lions res were hoping to play suns this week but suns were only able to field around 5-6 listed so that got canned. Last week or week before suns academy played surfers seniors, demons won by around 6gls. Lions academy had a intraclub Wednesday night before making there final cut before 2 selection games v suns academy coming up early march. 1st game at Yeronga 2nd game at southport.

Also Neafl rep team coaching gig advertised on neafl website in careers section.

Redlands have recruited a number of players that are already proven good players at NEAFL level. Have gained more then lost in this area and I think they will be super competitive this season.
