I'd say pick 6 (will end up pick 8) isn't enough and apart from pick 8 they don't have any picks that would interest us.

If Neale is determined to leave, rather than a casual preference, it's probably enough.

It would all point towards casual preference at this stage and his situation could be very different in 12 months if we don't trade him.

Chances are we won't be drafting a future brownlow medallist and multiple B&F winner with a single top 10 pick so no it won't.
That's not how it shakes out. The question is what does he have left in the tank?

Look at Tom Mitchell. He's the same age. He won a Brownlow and two B&Fs. But any trade pitch would be based on what kind of football he can produce from now onwards.

He might be 29 but he could still be both teams best midfielder for 2-3 seasons.
Yeah, so maybe he plays another 100 games. That's what shapes his trade value, not the fact he won a Brownlow last year.

No one knows at this stage.

Once again, Lachie has never made it a secret that he wants to end up back in Perth. That doesnt mean he wants to leave Brisbane now.
I believe the club might entertain a trade that's a win/win situation while Lachie still has value being the age he is.
Slagging off at him is unfair given the BS out there that is not even close to being accurate.

Mitch had said a number of times in his podcast that players sort this stuff out mid season and decisions are made before the end of the season. Well, other than those that are sacked.

Don't think Lachie is any different to any other player. In fact, he's an experienced hand at breaking his contract so he has better knowledge of how to work the system than most. And when you are considering breaking your second front loaded contact in three years, you are playing the system.

He and his wife may love Brisbane, but that's not the issue. The issue is he is open to breaking his contract without being open and honest to his coach who, by all accounts, puts family before footy. I believe Fagan would fully support the move if he was involved from day one.

It isn't slagging him off to say this is a shit show he orchestrated.

So being capable of winning a brownlow doesn't inform how well you expect someone to perform?

The club statement is a standard one in a situation like this, no way they're going to come out and say "We will do everything we can to facilitate a trade for Lachie and his family"...... that would be downright stupid going into negotiations with that out there.

Wife and Child is always first priority so Family First. Club needs to move quickly now because Lachie will do whatever his wife wants -
To be near her family in the west.

To be fair, he might be the one who wants to go back. At the time speculation was Lachie didn't get in with Ross and the Ross discipline. He might never have come here if Ross wasn't the coach there - maybe he really wanted to be a one club player and he has pinned for Freo.

Can't blame the missus.

No doubt his years of footy remaining is a factor. So is the level at which he can play - as evidenced by his Brownlow. On your analysis it wouldn't matter if he won another next year, only that he is another year older. Both are factors.

He's been pining for the fjords.

It shows that he's been a fine player, but that's not in dispute.

You still have to ask, how many games will we get out of this guy? 100? 200? Somewhere in between? What do you cough up in return with that in mind?

How many first rounders did Geelong pay for Jeremy Cameron (albeit one year younger at the time of trade) but uncontracted?

Huh? If he won another Brownlow at his new club? Clearly that would be a factor when assessing his value if it did in fact happen.

Everyone knows Neale is a fine player. That's not in dispute. I get it, you want to talk about the Brownlow like that's some guarantee of future performance. But it isn't, and Freo would be getting a guy who might play 100 more games. They can't trade for him on the basis that he'll win another Brownlow.
