Brisbane GM of football Danny Daly on TAB Radio concerning Lachie Neale: "It’s all news to us as far as we’re concerned. I can't make any comment as I haven't spoken to Lachie. The club will put out a statement once they have spoken to Lachie."

Maybe we have been blindsided by this? Would be far more disappointing if that’s the case.

If this is true, then I for one will hire a helicopter to hop over the borders and drop into the Gabba to hold the door so he can leave..

It’s called playing a straight bat.

Gold coast is said to be shopping around pick 3, might be a good chance to swap couple of firsts for it seeing we are tight for list spots

It sucks, but we played our best football without him this year. Dev, or a few others could be just one big preseason away from having a breakout year.

Who knows maybe starc could move into the mid, Madden comes in. We'll be ok

If Freo end up with 6 and 8, why would we just accept 8 as the key pick. It must be 6.
Someone will have to blink. Hope it's not the Lions.
I wonder who we could get for pick 8 , maybe a perfect fit, but yeah pick 6 offers more choice.
Could suit us just fine , could be our chance to get a fast running mid with a bigger body, penetrating kick and runs both ways.
Am I asking too much.
Exiting times to be honest, our midfield needed a shake up .

Not seeing very much here that's says Lachie we love you, don't go. Says it all really.
I think a lot of us were exhausted by the drama that was the Beams trades, and this time around it's kind of "Ok, you do you".

I also think the team is in much much better shape overall than back then, so the departure of one star midfielder isn't going to break the bank. I mean we have a very decent win/loss record when we have played without Neale, so we can handle our own. It's for this reason, I too am not angry. Just a bit disappointed, firstly at the timing of this news to break and secondly that we're now going to hear nothing else than Neale to WA for the rest of the trade period.

Matt Crouch might have been a nice replacement until he resigned with the Crows. Actually, he'd be spewing, apparently he re-signed for cheap because there were no better offers - there might have been now...

If we play our cards well Lachie leaving could work out really well for us IMO.

1- Nab Luke Parker via free agency, offer him 3 years with a trigger for a 4th year based on games played/top 10 B&F finishes.
2- Dockers currently have pick 8, should get a higher pick than that for Cerra. We'll take 6 and 8 for Lachie and 18(Demons).
3- 6, 8 and 14 to the draft OR it opens up a plethora of trade possibilities.

Probably best case I think is 6 and 8 for Neale and 14

Just off twomeys rating 5-12 doesn’t seem particularly strong by 12-24 seems stronger than most drafts. At least 6 and 8 would allow us to draft 2 that we’d really like

Probably best case I think is 6 and 8 for Neale and 14
That seems the most reasonable ballpark to me, but I'm not going to get invested on a particular result.

My thoughts:
  • it is likely that this is true given people are leaking that he also met with Freo coaches etc
  • Freo must be realy into it to for them to have meetings with Lachie as well
  • he is contracted to Brisbane and we have no obligations to bend on any trade terms just like we had to pay a lot for Beams to be with his dad etc
  • Zorko, Neale, Lyons combo probably only lasts 1 more year (Zorko ageing out) and then the Neale/Lyons combo probably had 3-4 years left (with both Neale and Lyons ageing out)
  • Zorko, Neale, Lyons are very similar in style so our midfied becomes one paced.
  • The loss of Neale as we are pushing for a 4th finals series puts a hole through our current premiership window and it will always hurt to lose a Brownlow medalist. Replacing his output is going to be hard
  • Neale can only play inside mid so its hard to rotate him through the forward line and give the younger players inside mid time
  • I think Bags is being wasted on the wing. Someone with his ability to navigate traffic pairs wonderfully on the inside. He could realy explode into AA team level/Brownlow contented with more inside time.
  • I think Berry needs to play more inside minutes. He can extract and offers a point of difference to Zorko/Lyons.
  • Rayner/Cockatoo in the midfield are wildcards/unknowns
  • Dev needs inside mid time to develop
  • I think the loss of Neale will enable us to freshen up our midfield and transition to a more sustainable/younger group
  • There will be a drop off next year as we learn to live without Neale. We would have a bit a drop anyway as we have to let Hipwood slowly come back.
  • We will be really setting our list up for the long term. Could be a Port type situation with refreshing our list.
  • Freeing up the salary cap space can also let us get creative and seek a short term replacement now or bank it for bigger moves next year
  • Ultimately we have likely reduced our chances for a Flag next year (though Sydney and Port have shown young teams can still be in it) but we improve our window for the mid 2020s.
  • My overall feelings are: id rather not trade Neale but the opportunity for growth also excites me

It’s called playing a straight bat.
Which you would hope so as to get some footing and hopefully get the ball back in our court. Hope Danny Daly gives Daryl Morey a call and gets some pointers. Ask for way overs and work back from there. I would like to think that at the end of it we should end up with their two (eventual) top 10 picks as as a minimum. Our first rounders can be used to help satisfy and as well we get second rounders back. A lot of water to go under the bridge but I hope we put the club first.

It's no use pretending that it's not ideal to lose your best player because that's what he is. How we transition from the Neale ,Lyons ,Zorko M/F to the next M/F will determine whether we progress ,regress ,or stay the same.

The rapidity that stories were able to get out there less than a day after our last gut wrenching final tells you people had been sitting on this for a while. Possibly why we gave Lyons 3 years as well. We came out of the Beams deal very well but Neale is not Beams. He's better in so many respects.

I'm not losing any sleep over it until we see the nature of whatever deal we can strike. We need more pace, we're looking to add to our M/F stocks ,right. There's a gap there to be filled and I think anyone saying Rayner could fill that gap next year at least is very wishful thinking. But let's just see what ensues over the next few weeks.

Rayner/Cockatoo in the midfield are wildcards/unknowns
Just now it has dawned on me that it will be a thing in 2022 and I'm suddenly incredibly excited.

Probably would be a good idea to be up front with members at least....nobody likes being lied to, we're not fools, we know something is going on or its not..
Goes both ways really, we were happy enough when he broke his contract to come to us.
