No they don’t.

They can upgrade a rookie listed player just like us, if they’re only going to make three list changes.

They also have some decent nga kids in the second half of the draft they’ll get for peanuts. They don’t need to trade for later picks, because as I’ve explained elsewhere, their very late picks will come in rather significantly when other teams finalise their lists ahead of the draft.

They don’t need to off load any players with a bit of currency either. I believe they have delisted or re-signed all their players already, except one.
If they were going down that track of only making three list changes... they're not as they have delisted 7 players and Cerra wants out.. Everything I've read has Garlick, Longmuir and Bell going to the National Draft with early picks as it's packed with WA Talent..late picks ain't going to cut it except for the NGA kid ..Their prime objective is to secure player/s for the CHF position and bolster their forward group (see attached link- Garlick names the local players and confirms he needs early picks) . Lachie Schultz agreed to remain on the rookie list as a part of his two-year contract extension, ...So they will need to get creative if the above article is correct...West Coast has also indicated that they are also going to the draft to secure WA talent

I think we’re all over playing the Rayner in the middle concept. Yea he will be tried there, but there’s no evidence to suggest he has the tank to play out games there or run defensively. In fact there evidence to the contrary. Until he has shown he can do it, projecting the idea is a fools gold.

Feel like we might structure our forward line a little differently with him back. Not sure he spends a lot of time in the middle after the ACL.

Wonder how Lachie will feel if Freo says thanks but no thanks.

Does he stay put, or ask to move anyway? I think stay put but for someone who has gone from success to success in the past five years, it could be a massive ego equalizer.

Especially with Mitch hanging around. Mitch is brutally honest about his own history, and I'm sure he is the same about everyone else.

I'll bring the pop corn, someone bring the beer. Could be fun to watch. Almost as fun as Sunday night beers were I reckon.

He will have a long time to ponder over it when he's benched over Matho. Matho cries for the club while Neale is only crying over his front ended contract ending.

Who is Lachie Neale kicking it to in the forward line? Dan McStay would be Fremantle's best key forward

Haha I'm a matho fan so I love that concept but even I don't see that happening.

Might see Lachie replaced in the leadership team by matho though.

I know Matho is limited, but he brings a lot more to the club and to our performances than most would be willing to admit. There is a reason why he was given a two year extension, and why is the first player to replace Neale. Fagan rates him a lot and sees him as more than a competent Neale replacement. What I love most about Mathieson is that he doesn't care if he is playing in the first or seconds. He just wants to see the club do well and everytime he's on the field, he's giving it all to the end. What a player. Love that guy so much ❤

Also, we haven't lost a game with Mathieson in our starting squad this year.

Never going to happen. Huge difference in class.
Matho is a better person than Neale. That reason alone is why I would prefer him. Anyways, Neale is a goner, so let's try and get two first rounders from Fremantle and bring in a player who actually wants to play here.

Freo are definitely interested. Just listened to their CEO on 6PR in Perth - he could not have sounded much more keen. This is on.

Interesting. Would imagine he is 100% gone if they are keen.

Best case trade scenario? Any trade scenario looks better if Parker was to come as a FA no matter how unlikely.

As long as we get a top ten pick and something else as a sweetener, I am actually kind of positive about this because as good as he is, we have other players who can do a similar role albeit obviously not as well. This could set us up mid-long term although it might dent the short-term somewhat.

Freo seem to think they wont give up a top 10 pick. Think it's more of a hope than an expectation.

They're going to be disappointed for sure.

I think the worst possible realistic scenario for Lions fans is that we give Neale and get pick 8 and a future second rounder from them. I think that is the lowest possible offer that could, if the pressure was high enough, get the deal done.

I think the worst possible realistic scenario for Freo fans is that they get Neale and Melbourne's first rounder (let's say 18) and give us 6 & 8. If the pressure was high enough on them, I could see that happening - but it's the most extreme scenario the other way.

In all likelihood, the trade will probably fall somewhere in the middle. That's why Neale & 14 for 6 & 8 is what a bunch of journalists have said sounds fair - although that probably does favour us just slightly.

The factors that will help us are:
-Obviously the Brownlow medal
-The two years remaining on his contract
-The romance of the story for them of bringing him home
-The lack of big name players who request a trade to Freo - they will probably feel some obligation to not let it pass (this one is objectionable though).
-The front-ended nature of his deal (and how that will leave us feeling a bit ripped off)
-The two Father/Sons that will come in the first few picks, meaning their #6 & #8 are realistically #8 and #10 - which doesn't sound like giving up quite as much.

The factors that will help them are:
-His age
-The lack of desperate need for him
-Our cultural approach of doing what's best for our people
-The pressure from their fans to not cave

If anyone wants to save time over the next month, I think we can safely assume that there'll be a fair bit of dealing back and forth on this one, there'll be news reports suggesting it's on and news reports suggesting it's off, wild variations in trade value, and then eventually it will probably get done for somewhere in the middle of those two trades I suggested above, with Lions fans feeling like we haven't got enough and Freo fans feeling like they've given too much. It's going to end up feeling like a lose/lose, I think - as unfortunate as that is.

Just because he is a better person doesn't mean he should get a spot in the team over him. If the whole team were full of "good, loyal" players rather than the best footballers we can get then we would never get a premiership and possibly not even finals. And its not like Neale is a problem anyway, before all this happened, I am sure he was a very liked teammate within the group.

And realistically, we are probably going to get (pick 6 or pick 8) and a 2nd/3rd rounder. I don't know if he can really stay at our club next season. The Neale's obviously want to go back to WA and our team has showed that we really try and get them to their destination.

I do hope he stays as I believe him back fully fit along with the improvement of Bailey, Rayner, Robertson and someone like Coleman could be the difference. A big pre season coming up for Cockatoo too.

Other wise, if he does leaves going to the draft with 6, 8, 18 as our 3 live picks gets us more elite talent in the door along with the more of that next year in Ashcroft.

Freo fans have short memories.

33 year old Gary Ablett Jr. yielded Gold Coast and end of 1st rounder and a 2nd the following year when he went back to Geelong after winning a 2nd Brownlow

A top ten pick and a 2022 2nd would be more than reasonable for a 28yo after a Brownlow year

Pick 6 and 8 for Neale and 14 is perhaps not as favourable as people think (though I would certainly do it). The difference between pick 14 and 8 in points equates to about pick 42. So they're trading us 6 and 42 for Lachie. In saying that, I doubt you would get many teams trading down from pick 8 for 14 and 42.

I guess it depends on who we want in the draft and if we think that kid that we would take at 8 might still be there at 14..

I'd be happy with 6 and a future second, banking those second rounder points to match Ashcroft. I wouldn't be trying to get too crafty with our future first either. Keep it until next year's trade period, some club is bound to be desperate for it, more desperate than anyone is likely to be for it this year.
