Glenelg would have taken him but we have a salary cap and after all the guns we acquired there was no money left

I was as frustrated as anyone with his on field performances and continual selection the past 3 years, however he clearly has a very good head on his shoulders and has sorted himself out for life after footy nicely.

Would not surprise me if he turns out to be a very good coach and ends up back in the AFL system. As Fagan has proved it’s a myth you have to have a successful playing career to be a successful coach.

Did no SANFL club want him? Player/coaching PAC Old Collegians

In all seriousness, good luck to him and can't blame him for bypassing state league footy.
He was approached by both PAOC and Uni; both with the networks to help his media and media production career.
He’s more focussed on that than the time required for SANFL.

Says a bit about his commitment to Footy.

From first round pick, gifted regular games, delisted and playing ammo Footy and under 24 year of age.

He seems like a well-balanced young man who understands even if he was to land on another AFL list it will always be a fight for him.

The fact that he is doing the things he loves farming, fishing and keep playing footy is a credit to him.

Yeah, it is nice that two (Ned and McCasey) of our first round picks during our rebuild period are doing things they like to do other than playing AFL Footy.

Looking forward to Pedlar and Chayce Jones balancing their life out after being delisted in the next few years.

With all due respect, why? At AFL level he demonstrated a severe lack of footy smarts. What could possibly make you think he's got the footy brain to be able to coach others?

I wouldn't confuse a lack of talent with a lack of a footy brain.

The only thing would be who he's been coached by. Very few successful coaches have been coached by a dud themselves

I think the thing he lacked was that ultra quick decision making that someone like Pendlebury excels at. That doesn’t necessarily mean he’s tactically inept.

He does however seem to have a high work ethic, seems to be pretty switched on, and is from the outside pretty well respected by all members of the playing group, something that suggests he has an ability to relate to and connect with a range of personalities. All are attributes that make a good coach.

As is said, I wouldn’t be surprised if he is successful as a coach. Maybe you’re right and tactically he’s hopeless, but the fact that he’s starting in his 20s gives him a massive leg up.

I’ve thought for a long time that the AFL system has prevented a lot of really good coaches from succeeding because it seems you need the playing pedigree to get your foot in the door.

If it turns out Ned has a good footy brain then I guy with his experience, plus an early start to coaching is a prime candidate to be successful.
