Autopsy Negatives vs Hawthorn

Team got destroyed around stoppage, fell into old habits and then could not find a way out from the back half.

Hawthorn, on top of their 11 goals from stoppage, created 11 goals from their defensive half.

West Coast on the other hand, manged just 4 inside 50 entries from 50 attempts at moving the ball from the defensive half, incurring no score at all.

No structure, no intent, no hope.

Pathetic. Hapless. Embarrassing. Inexcusable.

Arguably the worst performance in club history.

Total score involvements: 13-144

It's one thing to be talent-limited, we as supporters understand the team current does not have much in the way of quality available - but the complete lack of presence from start to finish is what is most unacceptable.

Hawthorn had 137 more disposals, yet still managed 8 more tackles than West Coast.

"Pressure Acts" (WTF does that even mean anymore?) +134, yet metres gained was -1951.

The most disappointing aspect of this match is that the glimmers from this year were lost in a performance that had all of the hallmarks of the darkest depths of 2022, only exaggerated further.

Once again, the all-too-familiar tale of covering more ground than the opponent for negative impact was on display:
  • Distance covered (km): 294-287
  • Total sprints: 246-283

I expected a loss. I did not want to see a non-competitive, all-encompassing capitulation such as this.

Any light at the end of this tunnel is looking much farther away at the moment.

The prospect that this team will be against much stronger opposition in coming weeks and what that may entail is difficult to bear.

Another week closer to the draft.

Until then, burn it all down.

This is gonna be good, apparently Oscar Allen is about to tear Hawthorn apart

Positive
  • good % boost
  • #1 pick babbbyyyyy
  • young fellas getting games
  • all the not-AFL level players still playing horrible while given opportunity = closer to delisting

Negative
  • Nil

EMBRACE THE HURT! LOVE THE PAIN!

Hey guys, just got home and about to put the replay on, no spoilers please
If I might offer a bit of advice.
Get a 350ml glass
Fill it with whiskey/rum or whatever strong liquor you have available
Consume immediately
Sit down, relax, and enjoy the footy.

Neg: Ground zero!
Pos: I used to feel sorry for Simmo having to do the post game pressers, but now I find a perverse enjoyment watching him squirm? How long can he do that for...
Something's gotta give?
People saying get rid of this player and that player, who replaces them?
Did Gaff EVER break a game open, break the lines, take the game on, do something dangerous?
He's an introverted guy and that shows in his footy, throughout his whole history.
He's like a pre-programmed jogging robotron?... now it's just a rote performance week in, week out, going through the motions..
Feel sorry for the younger/newer players.
Also what did Chesser have to offer, wasn't there something special about him? Early days huh..
Essendon, Pies and Crows next before the bye...just to really suck our souls out!
Yup, bring on the bye and MSD.
P.S - 5 Things We Learn't...bring it on, that'll be a fun read!

You pretty well typed my feelings about the game and where we're at right now for me. I didn't expect 2023 to be a year of pushing the 8, but I did expect us to improve.

My not very ambitious hopes for 2023 were...
4 wins, maybe a couple more.
Be more competitive; lose games by 4-5 goals that in 2022 we lost by 10.
Put effort in every week.
Change the game plan, and actually see it happening.
Bring on some talent.

Well it appears that even achieving 1 out of 5 modest ambitions was 1 too many.

So went and did the Ladder predictor just to see what it looks like for us/north/hawks.
For us to get off the bottom we would need to now win 2 games for a total of 3 wins, OR we would need to win one more and hope the competition lose badly and dont win again for the year.
and even then if we beat North in rd20 we would need to beat them by 90 odd points roughly to bridge the % gap.

Highly likely we get the spoon unless we get some serious personnel back.

We can not lay any blame on our defenders .

Our midfield let's the opposition run it forward through the corridor and deliver into forward 50 without any pressure.

Our midfield sucks . Our 2 best mids in sheed and Kelly don't have a defensive bone in their bodies.

Gaff is a shell of the player he used to be and our wafl mid brigade is useless.

We need a serious overhaul .

A couple of compo picks like norf got to get some senior players in would be a great help if it means we can **** off clark west Foley rotham

Don't forget that North and Hawthorn play each other in round 18. Surely they can't both lose that one by playing out a nil all draw?

So one of them will have at least 3 wins by the time we play North in round 20.

And I just cannot see where the next win comes from. Let alone 2 of them.

took that into account as well.

Mind you, for all those naysayers claiming we're the worst team in the history of the competition ... How quickly we forget St Kilda's 1899 season when they were winless and had a percentage of 23.22%
What were they like to see live Keys?

17th vs 18th, should be a nice close game at least
