Universal Love "Never Toumpas Apart" - Jimmy, I like your hustle, thats why it was so hard to cut you

Looked decent in a win, no surprise, any weekend without a visit to Browntown is a good weekend for Jimmy.

Port fans, please be sure to update his progress the next time youre in a close game or loss. :)

He was better than awful against Brisbane, which is more than I can say for just about every game this year.

He had little impact, but at least he didn't gift them goals like he has in the past. Also noticed that he worked really hard and was often ignored when he was in a good spot. Can't doubt his work ethic.

But I still don't know why we picked him up. A young outside midfielder with good skills as a Polec/White backup sounds good, but they didn't take into account the crippling confidence and decision making issues.

EDIT: With that said I expect him to continue to improve his lowest range. I am concerned that what we're getting from him now is as good as he's capable of. 20-odd largely forgettable touches, a fair bit of pressure and tackling and a handful of non-critical turnovers. Still more than I managed to make of my AFL career.

OFFICIAL "THE TOUMP" ALERT FROM A PHANTOM 2012 DRAFT:

Pick 2

GREATER WESTERN SYDNEY

Jimmy Toumpas

DOB: 2.1.94

Height: 183cm

Weight: 77kg

Position: Midfielder

Recruited from: Woodville West Torrens
A well-rounded midfielder will complement the growing wealth in the centre for the Giants. Toumpas will join the likes of Whitfield, Coniglio, Greene, Smith, Hoskin-Elliott and Tyson as first-round draft picks in the midfield, which will make GWS a very scary proposition for other teams in a few years time, if not now. Toumpas is deceptively quick, which may surprise a few teams next season. He uses the ball by hand and foot excellent, can play inside and outside, while his poise and endurance are superb. Toumpas is a little bit like Jimmy Bartel, in that he is excellent in the clinches, lifts for big games and can play through injury, as highlighted by his performances throughout the U/18 Championships, when he had a dodgy hip. But unlike Bartel, Toumpas possesses great speed, which makes him a great pick for Greater Western Sydney, rounding out their midfield.

Either that or they just make shit up.
Thankfully our current recruiters watch players before drafting them.
I don't think so. He was very much a consensus top 5 pick and was #2 for most of the year.

I know he seemed to be highly rated by all at the time, however Toump could never win his own footy at any level, that's alarm bells for AFL level. Having said that I was happy to get him at the time and didn't expect him to be such a massive fail.

See a lot of similarities between Toumpas and Aish. Both SANFL products before drafted, both highly touted top-10 picks throughout the U-18 carnival, and both have struggled to adapt to AFL level. Both play predominantly outside midfield roles, and as suggested in the Heraldsun, it's simply not enough. Won't surprise me at all if they both never live up to the expectations of top-10 picks.

Still remember Macca telling everyone he'd come good and become another Bartel at a supporter function. Can't develop em all Macca

OFFICIAL "THE TOUMP" ALERT - from "PatientMental" on the West Horsham Poort Board.

Rubbish footballer. In six games (the Toump has):

Average metres gained: 281 (up 120 from previous best of 160)
Average disposals: 18.7 (up 3.7 from his previous best of 15)
Average contested possessions: 7.2 (up 3.3 per game from previous best of 3.9)
Average rebound 50s: 2.2 (up .9 from previous best of 1.3)
Average inside 50s: 3.7 (up 2.7 from previous best of 1.5 from 2014)
Average intercept possessions: 4.5 (up 3 from previous best of 1.5)
Average tackles: 4.0 (up .9 from previous best)

Average disposal efficiency 72.3 (down 3.2% from previous best of 75 in 4 games in 2014)
Average score involvements 3.7 (= with previous best)

Oh, he's also just equaled his most season wins played in of 3, and 2 wins from equaling his career tally of 5 wins pre-Port Adelaide.

With a career high winning percentage of 50%. He's already enjoying more success than he ever was afforded in Victoria.

Jog. On.

So he's worked hard to try and improve himself, but let's face it, those numbers are pretty uninspiring.

As to the comparison with Aish, I don't quite think so. Aish was actually very good in 2014 and then went backwards, I'm assuming due to a falling out with coaches off field over the contract business.

Toumpas hasn't had a good year yet.

He's also a year older and a handful of games more experienced. I mean, you'd expect some improvement between seasons 3 and 4 in any footballer. And those numbers are really just 'some' improvement. Maybe we should compare it to Viney's improvement this season? Nah...

I'd like to put Harmes (you know the guy from the rookie draft) figures up against that, but alas. Cbf.

The one with more bold in his column is the one that doesn't play for you

Also anyone who thinks the Eddie Dingle genuinely thinks Toumpas will win the brownlow is having a laugh, he has pretty much said that about everyone and was clearly piss take

Oh, the Toump is winning the footy is he? That must mean he's on the improve....

Dean Terlich has averaged just under 18 disposals in his career, doesn't make him any less of a hack though does it.

If Port fans can show us footage of 'The Toump' breaking the lines, running back with the flight, using the ball smartly under pressure or kicking goals then I'd be inclined to believe he's improved. They won't be able to, because he does none of those things. But hey those panicky kicks do inflate his stats which is all that matters in this debate so keep up the good work Toump. :thumbsu:

Credit where credit is due. I doubted the boy, but if Toumpas isn't one of the elite players of the competition within the next few years I will eat my dinner.
