Seems like Prospect Council are pushing for Govt funding for a large upgrade of Prospect Oval. This includes a $4.8M upgrade of northern parklands next to the Aquatics Centre...

Just another piece of the money puzzle.

Wonder what they want to do to Charles Cane. I played a soccer game on there almost a year ago, and it was a pristine venue. Like carpet.

Scale is not quite right on that last one Next Gen Rookie

You can actually comfortably fit both an Adelaide Oval and MCG on the site

If they're able to go to those lengths, the MCG replica oval absolutely needs to be the same orientation of East-West. While finals are still being played in the afternoon the position of the sun at the G can be disorienting.

It's possible

Just a thought, but why not go for a full multi-use proposal?

Fully demolish the existing aquatic centre and replace with a smaller version. Propose something that includes a full community centre - one that includes lap swimming, fitness centre, kids splash area etc... That way funding can be sourced through local and state governments.

Include a 6 court basketball centre - which is to be home to the State basketball centre (something Adelaide definitely needs) and entice a local club to use (Forestville for instance who might be happy to move from Wayville). Include a full health centre - GP's, Physio, Chiro, podiatrist, massage etc... with links to a University for placement of students etc...
On the side is the Crows hub, which includes our own gym, pool, offices etc... The basketball courts can be used for larger functions and maybe even include a dining/cafe area as well.

We really could put together a large proposal that includes local, state and even federal government finances, that provides for the local community as well as a state of the art centre for ourselves. Include oval/s and it could be a big winner. A real multi-million dollar centre of excellence type of set-up.

Baseball diamond and e-sports arena too ;)

Actually, if they want to go over the top next level TM, they could set up a round oval wide enough to fit the longest oval anywhere.

Then they can mark out the oval to simulate any oval, any orientation, even the MCG with afternoon sun but in the morning because of when they're training.

A GPS controlled tape (or rope) rolling buggy could mark out the boundary easily and roll it up after. Goal posts would need to have a mobile set up. They could put easily moveable barriers around the oval to provide visual cues of the boundary to players

Good work, will they allow us to cut down trees though? More would need to go as well to create some space around the oval
I would guess they would, especially for a multi-million development - think they're mostly not very large (?) scrubby trees anyway. And it's in an area next to a major roadway, not like the "boutique" area around Adelaide Oval.
The tree huggers will have a meltdown!

What the 'preserve the parklands' mindset has done is turn the areas into dry, barren, desolate wastelands.

What's there now in those north parklands is terrible.

No buildings allowed so absolute zero spectator facilities. No shade, no seating, no toilets, no clubrooms, no parking.

A bomb shelter of a changeroom that only services one (of four ovals).

Because the facilities are so sparse no clubs want to be there permanently. So nothing gets invested in upgrades or playing surfaces etc.

The playing surfaces are cement hard, uneven, poorly grassed. Actually dangerous to play on. But because open space is at a premium clubs/schools are forced to use the venue for matches.

An upgraded sports hub of the whole area would be gold and would benefit residents. But won't be allowed cos we gotta preserve those decaying, unusable, barren parklands.
