Re: BetaSite of AFL.com.au

1. On Sunday night when the games were finished, the gameday live banner thing was on the front page, but when i clicked on it, it didnt open. Same issue as last year, they take the gameday live link away and you can never find it ever again.

2. The video doesnt work for me, I have media player 11, bigpond member, when i go to the video page, i click play and it comes up as error, and stops after 2 seconds of nothing. Plus when it says you need to be a member etc... log on/join/close...Where can you log on? There's nowhere not a link or anything to log on.

Anyway, thanks.

Re: BetaSite of AFL.com.au

Five years experience running the 17 sites, each year ending with a comprehensive user survey, has taught you nothing?

I don't see how posting on a fan forum a week after you've already launched is going to fix the endemic, fundamental issues the project has.

Re: BetaSite of AFL.com.au

Can't say I like the format of the stats in Game Day live. I would much prefer to see Kicks, Handballs then Marks. It's just easier to read as thats the way it always has been.

Absolutely agree.. you dont realise how much it was annoying me trying to figure out the stats to each player.. so used to reading it Kicks/Handballs/Marks

Also wouldnt hurt if you had it maybe Kicks/Handballs/Possessions in total.. then Marks

Re: BetaSite of AFL.com.au

slDayey, a couple of comments:

Firstly, your top menu doesn't work correctly on Safari (for Mac OSX). The hyperlinks work fine, but the sub-menus get lost behind the main flash app. Although it looks like its working a bit better than yesterday.

Also, it seems like you have empty modules on the right hand side of the main page. Couldn't you put the ads in there and free up more space for actual content?

The news layout on the main page is great. Very easy to access.
Once the news article is opened:- I find the font size a bit small.

The fixture looks fantastic as well. Very pro. But unfortunately it doesn't work at all on the Safari browser. :(

I also think you've over complicated the match day app. As cool as you guys may think it is, it's a lot harder to access stats now days. Simplicity vs presentation. - I prefer simplicity.

It's a good website otherwise. There's a lot of advertising being forced down our throats (bit like a pr0n site), but that's the AFL's fault for selling out.

Cheers.

And not have the players in alphabetical order of their first name! Cant i ask why they put out this version of the website with so many obvious errors? Didnt anybody go through and check it? Piss poor effort.

I agree, possessions should be in there. Stuff using my brain to add it up!

Re: BetaSite of AFL.com.au

Great to see your after feedback.Simple one why like all major sports around the world why cant we watch/ pay for live games if outside Australia!!!! Why do replays have to be 24 Hrs after the game. Also like every other year why cant international subscribers sign up yet!!! Says you can but no link as usual!!!!

Re: BetaSite of AFL.com.au

I "watched" the Richmond Geelong game on it on Sunday.

Whilst the main page and the live thinggy is all very flash, I did have to wonder how much of all the "flashiness" (read: Lots of megabyte = slow) is there to make people sign up to broadband internet connections?

Bearing in mind it is all sponsored by Telstra.

The home page has a lot a flashy pictures and stuff, but SFA actual information.

Re: BetaSite of AFL.com.au

That page crashed within seconds of me clicking on your link.... lets not make it more like that :(.

Serious? Gee thats funny because Ive been going to that site for YEARS and never had a problem (even with my dodgy ISP's) and it seems to load really fast too.

Re: BetaSite of AFL.com.au

Whoa people be nice will ya. I am not a fan of Bigpond either as they a well overpriced however all that is being asked is for some positive feedback, meaning what can be improved. Why do you have to go shoot yourself in the foot for. They have come out and asked these questions so things can be improved. Stop being a bunch of Monkeys.

I think the menus need to be to the left of the page. This will help centre the page also.

The bigpond banner at the top should be removed or moved to another part of the page. It's the AFL website and having the Bigpond banner makes it look otherwise (cheap and nasty)

I have no problem with the load time. I use www.itv-f1.com and this takes a while to load but is a great site. I do beleive the NFL site is a good site aswell.

I wish you guys the best in making our AFL site one of the best. :thumbsu:

Re: BetaSite of AFL.com.au

Just a question though, what do you do if you're stuck in some back-block "slow as all ferk" internet cafe in Vladivostok and want to know the footy scores?

Or is there a "html" version of the site which can get this information in basic format?

Above rant aside, fair play to them for seeking feebback. Let's hope they act on any of the good suggestions they get.

Re: BetaSite of AFL.com.au

too many bugs. links are not updated eg. Gameday Live says preview for game when in fact the game is being played out. Area of Latest News is too cluttered and the amount of advetisements of the AFL sponsors is not funny. The format 2 years ago was much more user friendly than the past 2.

Re: BetaSite of AFL.com.au

Too cluttered and therefore too slow to load.
Gameday live window does not update scores, and does not have a refresh button.
It's almost like you people make the AFL computer games, too. Just can't get it right.

Re: BetaSite of AFL.com.au

Hi Sandy, thanks for taking the time to seek feedback on the new site.

I have submitted a request for technical support on this, but the streaming of matches is woeful. The video literally stops to buffer on average every 10 seconds (often less), and each time this takes up to 5 seconds. This is clearly unwatchable. I have a high-spec machine that streams other web content (such as sopcast) seamlessly, so the issue certainly seems to be down your end.

I have a bigpond broadband account, but am in London at the moment so your site is the ONLY way for me to watch games.

The tech support has been disappointing - they responded with a standard troubleshooting reply that was targetted at people who couldn't see the video appear at all, rather than addressing the performance issue.

It is likely I will terminate my BigPond account over this, which is disappointing as I would like to use the service and recommend it to fellow Londoners who can't otherwise watch games.

Please advise whether there are plans to upgrade the service.

Regards
Ashley

Re: BetaSite of AFL.com.au

Well, if you're who you say you are, then I've got one piece of feedback for you that should be ingrained in anyone that works in IT anywhere

Keep It Simple.

The page as it is is just too damn complex to easily navigate. I took one look last week for the NAB Cup squads and went looking elsewhere. The best sites are ones where the navigation's simple, and there's not too much to confuse you at first glance. This does not seem to fit that criteria.

Would have been nice as well if the first five things I saw weren't all the advertising...

I second this. The quality and performance of the stream downloads of match replays is pretty poor and is my only serious gripe. If that was fixed I'd generally be more happy with the service, as I rely on this to watch my footy week in, week out.

Generally I think the AFL site is too big and unwieldy (it takes an eternity to load pages) but at least it loads. Just sort the quality of video replays and I'll stop moaning!

I third this. Count me in as another frustrated international subscriber.

Re: BetaSite of AFL.com.au

Same complaint. Took me 3 hours to watch 2 quarters of a footy match. I streamed an episode of Lost from the ABC website the same day and had no similar issues.

Re: BetaSite of AFL.com.au

Oi Sandy ....come back!... or is this like Bigpond CS get back to you next week?

You can see by the post time stamp that BF runs 24*7. Also BF admin apologise for downtime and have a timely response to feedback or problems.

NO longer a subscriber so maybe the streaming has improved but based on comments above^ doesn't seem so!? Suggest if you want to use it as a monopoly shoehorn to get customers, that you make sure that it works and works well 24*7*365 days 99.99%! (Or set up a torrent site on the side , rename it, and then many of us might pay for that bit:D )

Good luck:thumbsu:

Re: BetaSite of AFL.com.au

How about Bigpond outsource the project to a firm with some runs on the board?

They did. Spin Media in Melbourne worked on the site, built it and designed it to telstras standards.

How do i know? I was offered a job to work in the dev team and refused after the salary package they offered was below par. Looking at the site i am glad i didn't accept the offer.
