We've had arguably the longest to arrange assistants for Matty in 2012 yet we'll be one of the last ones to finalise our coahcing line-up out of all AFL clubs and right now it's looking like McMillan is going to get a promotion.

This is a problem... everyone is panicking understandably...

we are supposed to have a beefed up football department
nothings happening
people linked to us are going elsewhere/nowhere

its just like dejavu for us..... and we as members have a right to be worried

at what stage last season did Primus call Laidley and beg him to stay on even in a part time capacity

I smell a big Keth Thomas/SANFL rat in all of this. Can't help but think Mr Thomas has once again capped our spending and limited our field to choose from.

Primus will be a lamb to the slaughter all over again.

Root. Brothel. Piss-up. Brewery.

We are on a slippery slope to hell.

This wouldn't surprise, but we surely still have enough money to lure some decent candidates? Where did the Watters rumours start? If he doesn't get the Saint Kilda job he still must be half a show?

And yet in his interview with 891 soon after taking the job, Thomas assured listeners that Matty would have a great assistant coaching group around him next year.

Surely if the AFL has stipulated that the money be spent on the football dept, then it will be - with no cost-cutting allowed.

Something has got to give here. It is pointless us even turning up next year with an umimproved coaching group.

Was just about to post along the same lines, PJ.

Keith Thomas' first stated goal was to surround Primus with a coaching team. Well, KT you're heading for a big F for fail at this rate.

Gary Ayres now seems more likely then anything to the un trained eye, I wouldn't mind this but understand lots have there reasons against. Mick Malthouse may come . . . . for the whole lot of our Bail out money for one season. lol

And why is Primus doing Rohde's job?!?!?

Maybe Peter Rhode has decided he will be the senior assistant as well now. Surely with so many footballers floating around in the coaching toilet, we could reach in and pluck out a golden nug

This is becoming more and more worrying. The thing is that since reaching the AFL, the club has been really bad at keeping members informed. Keeping members informed is a key to keeping them involved and getting them to games.

I'm afraid that there are forces sacrificing our club for whatever reason.

Keith Thomas, 1st September

"I think that's really premature," Thomas said of calls for Primus to be moved on, particularly from North Melbourne premiership player David King.

"Matty is a young man (36), this is his first big executive role and he hasn't had the AFL level support around him that he - or anyone - needs and requires."

"Until we provide him with that and give him every chance to succeed, those sort of comments are just unfair and off the mark."

"We just need to get him everything that he needs to execute his plan and we'll take it from there. My responsibility is to make sure we can get those resources to him very, very quickly and I know that process is well down the track."

FFS.

Got a bit of a "Rohde having to do everything" look about it a few days out from Trade Week with the added point issues this period of Tom Schwarz (F/S or not), Chad/Broges & the search for multiple new ACs to deal with in turn. Rohde would be on the critical path for budgeting, interviewing and negotiating 'terms' and scope for the new A/C positions, including internal debate with Matty on what he can and can't have (and probably the same arguments up the line with Keith around $). If he's having to actively canvas for applicants for AC jobs, if he can't negotiate quickly because he's got to keep going back to Matty and/or Keith on one aspect or another along with all that other stuff naturally it's going to be things with hard deadlines that get addressed first.

Just 4YI, I've never been a Rohde apologist, but neither am I one of the "pitchfork and burn at the stake" angry mob. Not yet anyway. We don't know if it's that no one wants to come here or that we aren't offering enough or that Rohde hasn't been given a big enough bag to offer, or why. Hold the pitchforks for now IMO.

As for ACs, people have good things to say re Collins at West, from a development perspective, I wonder if he's been sounded out ? I believe he has another year of a contract at West, but West being um, culturally inclined to bite at their own in that odd Richmond like way there are the usual murmurings out there. Would have no issue coming to Adelaide ("the city") at least...
