Malthouse has quit Collingwood - getting him to Port Adelaide would have to be the pipe dream to end all pipe dreams. Eade's reportedly going to fill the role that Mick was lined up for.

St Kilda/Bulldogs would surely jump on Mick anyway.

eddie described mick as mentally and emotionally knackered.

and im not sure st kilda would be the place ... im sure he'd be looking forward to renewing acquantainces with milne:p

Will know if we have by Bailey by midweek.

Bailey, an assistant coach in the Power's 2004 premiership campaign, said yesterday: "I'm still talking to Port. I've not made a decision yet. I should by the middle of next week."

Unlike many others, Bailey, who left Alberton in the 2007 finals series to take charge of Melbourne, is neither concerned by the image the Power carries today nor the notion SA football has become a lost zone in AFL football.

"I've found the people (at Port) are good and genuine," he said.

Well he'll have next year off IMO and would hope we try as hard as we can the year after though, he is exactly what us a Primus need our squad and move to A.O would tie in for him perfectly

I'm not convinced Malthouse will have next year off. For weeks we've heard hand on heart from all at Collingwood that Mick was going to be there next year as director of coaching. The Vic journos were finally admitting that they believed him.

Rucci was the only one still doubting him. He had Craig going to Collingwood to replace Mick in the director position.

St Kilda will go at Malthouse at 1,000,000 kms an hour. They might be in financial straits but they have enough wealthy celebrity backers to find the cash for Mick.

First one traded will be Stephen Milne. ;)

Choc might get his wish after all.

not sure of your thoughts, but it seems to me, that since chocos departure, we have been smashed by the media, and therefore unattractive to assistant coaches.
Garry lyon number 1 port basher..! Would love to see some port people back at the club, who are passionate port people.. Wanganeen, wakelin, lade, cunningham!

I didn't see it myself, but apparently on channel 7 news they reported that Bailey was on his way to Adelaide - anyone else see this? Were they referring to the AFC or Adelaide as in a location?

There was some rumour on Fox I think where Bailey was linked to Adelaide but even then it wasn't certain if they meant the city or the club.

He's since been linked to Richmond, St Kilda and Port. Rucci thinks Port are waiting on the St Kilda process to see who they take. Robert Harvey is presenting today.

Leigh Brown has joined Melbourne, Eade has gone to Collingwood.

Some handy footballers running around in the state game Slowdown. A few blokes there would be handy assistants (a couple are assistant coaches).

Do you know what context it was? As in "Bailey's on his way to Adelaide (as an assistant coach)"?
Or "Bailey's on his way to Adelaide (he was seen at the airport boarding a flight to Adelaide)"?

If we strike out on all of Bailey, Walsh and Watters I'm gonna neck myself.

But seriously, do they need a draft for coaches? The rich are getting richer here.

So a bit like Neil Craig and Rodney Eade...linked to every single club in the market for coaches!

Not kidding about the coaching potential in this game, I assume you guys are watching closely ;)

Exactly what I'm trying to suss out! I hadn't heard of him being linked to the AFC until this point, so I'm assuming PAFC are still frontrunners.

I have heard him linked to the Crows. Can't remember where but he's definitely been linked somewhere in media circles. However, given how often they've got it completely wrong who knows. For this reason i'm not going to build my hopes up over anyone, and just wait for the club to announce something.

And given the money we now apparently have available to spend on coaches, if Bailey DOES choose the Crows over us i think it's fair enough to start asking questions over what role Keith Thomas is playing in the process.

if bailey is off to the crows, so be it...!
We are talking about bailey, not malthouse Ffs..!Sure he was a good assistant, but lets not forget, walsh was also assistant in our successful period, with a pretty handy senior coach in williams!
More disappointed about walsh not coming, would be rapt if we got watters!

Am I the only one who has been pondering whether Malthouse would relish the challenge of taking on a director of coaching type role with Port Adelaide?
Unlikely I know but...
nice to dream, lets do it properly and have mick as head coach! while we're at it see if eddie would like to be president!

Lade and James.

I heard from a player in James runner-up GF team that he has been interviewed by Port in the past and never heard back. I'd love him as a skills/mid coach. The players at barossa speak very highly of him and his ability to push everyone to the limit.

They also say, "knees are gone, can hardly run but boy oh boy can he hit someone on the chest from a mile away."

Waaaaaahhhhhhh...

Get over it, we don't have enough money or appeal for good assistant coaches.

Get over it?

So what you're saying is that we can't attract any decent coaches (and I'm sure players) to our club, so this is something that we just have to accepted?

Gezz I hope you never become our CEO, we might as well shut up shop if you're fine with the fact that we can't attract anyone decent to our club.

What's the point of going on if we will just finish mid table for the next 100 years then?

Yes PortBrilliance, it is something that we just have to accept right now, and work towards improving the situation.

Local and national media have been shitting all over us since the second we became associated with choking 10 years ago, and we have to fight against that public perception for every new person we recruit, which is exactly why we are being linked to people that have past association with Port (who know the rep is bullshit).

Pretending that we are currently the most desirable club in the league for off-field football staff to go to, and that having the money is all that is required to get good people, is completely arrogant and pointless.
