New co-captains announced for 2024: Allen & Duggan

Nah I would’ve axed Allen and gone Duggo solo. Port did it to Wines after the fans told the club that co-captains is gimp as all hell.

Otherwise I wouldve gone full rebrand into the new era with Waterman. With a new coach it wouldn’t be a big deal and people would accept it.
The backroom men in the club are likely still determined to stick a dagger into the Snake's back at the earliest opportunity.

He's hardly had the red carpet rolled out for someone of his pedigree over the journey plus there seemed a bit of ill will around the way Alec's stints played out.

Allen retaining the captaincy probably also means him leaving via FA at the end of the year is even less likely.
If they took it from him then that question mark over his contract status would be just a bit bigger.

I dunno, I think stripping him of the captaincy would do nothing except devalue his stock so I wouldn't read it as a sign he's staying or anything. I'm plus 10 on should have been Duggan sole captain. Or dropped them both and gone with Gov or Snake. But this was all but inevitable there really are no particularly compelling cases to be made that anyone is an absolute standout. Interim year, make a change next pre-season.

yep, definitely should’ve been Duggo. He feels and carrys himself like a captain.

Allen was the worst captain in the league last year
On field leadership was a liability, hopefully the club addressed it this pre-season
and he can show improvement
He didn't even play till round 15. Bit harsh.

He also won the Norf game off his own boot and everyone got around him. Not sure what the club is addressing.

Not Harsh that game you mentioned his leadership was terrible early in that game
Lack of chasing remonstrating at team mates
bobs burgers grasping at straws GIF

Agree, just need to listen to them both speak to see that Duggan presents and articulates himself much better.

No hating on Allen, just my observations, but he comes across as a bit (not sure of the right word), cold faced/little bit whiney. Doesn't seem to have the right captaincy stuff. Hard to explain without shitting on the guy🤣

Like if I was a young lad at the club and had some issues or whatever, Duggan seems so much more approachable. He's also hardly missed a game the three years which you need for a young group

I would have just made Duggan captain. I thought he had a pretty decent year last season and more importantly stood up and tried to lift the side when we needed leadership at times. Oscar just needs to focus on his footy and getting body right now.
His disposal was appalling early last season and he probably deserved to be dropped. Turned it around and had a good end of year.

McQualter has recognised how deplorable Duggan is when kicking 35m+ and devised an entire gameplan to make-up for it.

But seriously would be great if someone could just have a chat with him and say "know your limits - don't kick beyond 30m". Also I think that it was exacerbated by the fact the backline was getting so pumped he needed to make clearing kicks just to relieve the pressure and that's just not his forte.
