Iwatani vs AZM was excellent, but too short again.

I don't watch heaps of Stardom, so it's weird seeing Mayu hit that German suplex finisher against someone that I think has about the most crisp bridging German in the game.

First 7 matches thoughts/notes

Was good to see Josh Barnett in the Ranbo. Was hoping Great-O-Khan was gonna win though. lol at KENTA powerwalking down the ramp like he's on Kath and Kim.

4 way ladder match was nuts. Kevin Knight on one dive completely missed Drilla Moloney.

IWGP Women's Title match was pretty good.

Jeff Cobb finally breaks that Ren Narita metal board. Flew in the air like Samoa Joe back in the day. Great to see ELP win the TV Title after coming back from cancer.

Tanahashi saves his career for now. Shibata is back wtf! Tanahashi vs Shibata tomorrow at Wrestle Dynasty!

Takeshita vs Shingo was terrific. Takeshita new Never Openweight Champ and faces Ishii for both the Never Openweight and AEW International Titles tomorrow.

El Desperado wins the Jr Title by ref stoppage, Douki might have broke his arm.

Did Hiromu carry an injury in?

This might be the most meaningful match of his career, and I can't remember him ever looking worse. He looks noticeably, strikingly soft across his torso.

Naito is going to get eye surgery I think.

You know, after watching Naito vs Hiromu and Shingo vs Takeshita?

Had they been given another 5 minutes, it's entirely likely that Mayu vs AZM would've shown up the whole NJPW roster and been the match of the night.

It'll never not be wild to me that I was watching ZSJ from the front row in Sydney 15 months ago. And he didn't phone it in either, he had 2 bangers against the Velocities.

Must be even more wild for the original TMDK guys in Perth. I hope they did the appropriate licensing and they make money off the brand.

I really liked that main event. It went too long, in typical Tokyo Dome fashion, but I thought it told a really good story.

Having this story of Shota on an island, of the unmet expectations, of the crowd antipathy towards him, maybe even of ELP returning and winning the belt earlier(?) was such a courageous story to take into your biggest main event of the year, but it made for an incredible match. Charlton dropped a line there near the end, something like "Shota's ankle can't withstand the weight of the world" - what a phenomenal line that summed up the story, that summed up everything that Shota was fighting for, and was trying to achieve.

There wasn't a minute during the leadup, during the show, or during the first 35 minutes of the match that I thought he was winning... then Charlton dropped that line and I thought "he has to win for his own version of finishing the story."

Then he didn't... Because maybe, ultimately, he isn't the guy he thought he was, and just maybe he isn't the future that everyone else convinced him that he was. And all he is, is a bit part player in Zac's story and in Tanahashi's story.
