why do you guys concede?
New administration probably wants to lead off with some good will if I had to guess based too on the other weeks' news with the MCG away reserved member allocations. Maybe asked Kochy to zip up about it for at least 5 years if we let them?

I will say every time this debate comes up:

1: Bars are different to strips.

2: if Collingwoods brand is so strong how can wearing bars in even 11 home games affect this?

3: it’s an all South Australian game, think it’s the right mix to be their SANFL identity in the SA showdown.

You can ask, but Kochie does not shut up about anything. Expect to be asked again next year 😛

Who will win
legally binding document
vs
hearsay
We're also not using the Magpie moniker outside of the SANFL, either (although I'm pretty sure the club logo is on both the AFL and SANFL jumper, someone correct me here).

I can also say, that as a Port fan, while I wouldn't say "No" to the Bars / Pylons being introduced as a full time home jumper, at the end of the day I believe that it would just dilute them.

Our present and future is the Black, White and Teal and our current home jumper is fantastic. Just need to read the room a bit more in regards to the clash jumper cough all teal clash cough.

For me, I'm happy with Prison Bars / Wharf Pylons with white shorts in Showdowns.

#1 - Yes if you visually analyse the design, they are distinct. Obvious differences such as the thickness of the stripes, number of them, make this clear, however this is coming from FJGD, we're all jumper nuffies who obsess over these small (and important!) details with regard to jumpers. However to the average footy fan they just see a black jumper with white stripes, whether we call them "bars" rather than "stripes", it doesn't stop the general public from seeing them as stripes.

#2 Collingwood's brand is actually so strong regarding this that it's always people confusing the bars for Collingwood - eg. Facebook nuffies "why is Port wearing Collingwood's jumper, will they sing the Pies' club song after the game, etc", and this is just when it's introduced in the media as a one-off let alone as a full time home jumper.

The brand is black and white vertical "lines", "stripes", "bars" on a jumper. These colours come from the shared association with Magpies for both clubs. If it was about the actual design, a symbolic representation of Port Adelaide, there would be no issue wearing the teal PBs that many have put up here over the years. They could wear this kit for 23 games and year, finals, grand final and there would be no discussion (and would soon probably be my favourite non-Collingwood jumper tbh). There is no clashing identity, while retaining the actual design element that makes this jumper a "Port Adelaide" jumper.

Brand infringement doesn't require the complainant party to be significantly hurt by the opposing parties' infringement upon their brand identity. Just in the same way if you publish the Aladdin movie on YouTube in 480p, Disney will take the video down immediately. It would be hard to argue that Disney was significantly harmed by a video gaining even 1 mil views, and yet it is still an infringement.

Bit of a weird example to use haha, but hope it makes it clearer what I mean by that.

#3 Fully agree, celebration of the great place SA has in Australian Football's history!

If you can't tell those sorts of comments are clearly digs at either Port or just the general "drama" of this Guernsey thing, and not actual confusion, I don't know what to tell you. The nuffies that care enough about footy to post on footy related socials, whilst nuffies, know they are different. If anything it would be the people that basically have no interest in Football that would be confused.

The perception that it "looks like Collingwood" would change rather quickly the more it is worn. My partner is not into footy at all (though gets exposed to it through me following it) and when Port last wore the bars, she saw them on the TV and asked why Port was wearing a different uniform. I told her it was the Guernsey they used to wear, she said oh ok and moved on with her life. Others who have the same question would learn the answer rather quickly. Or they just won't care enough to ask, in which case I can't fathom why it matters what they think.

Just let every club celebrate their heritage how they want to, without other clubs having input when it didn't concern then, it's not that controversial

Oh yeah, and I saw a guy call us "Norf" the other day. Can you believe that? Someone failed their primary school spelling tests!

Besides restating we own the rights it’s a pretty weak statement from Browne and one lacking details on if it’s another one off or ongoing

Edit: From the power statement another “one off”

What do collingwood own the rights too? Black and white stripes or magpies?

Prison bar is different to stripes

Is showdown on fta in melb?

We used to get semi-regular Saturday Night FTA games back in the channel 10 days, but since 2012 has only occurred twice - the Monfries bounce game in 2013 and the Phil Walsh game in 2015 - both in the Sunday Arvo slot.

The fact they finally scheduled a Friday Night Showdown last year but chose to bring back Friday night double-headers for the first time since the 1990s in order to do so and relegated it to a Foxtel game was embarrassing.

Actually there was a third, the Prison Bar one in 2020 was a Saturday night game on 7. It's pretty rare to get a showdown on FTA in Melbourne because even though SA, WA, QLD and NSW get all their games on FTA, the nationally televised games are the only chance Victorians can see their team on FTA so they'll aim for at least 1 Vic team on those matches, but it obviously can still happen. That Friday night one was absolutely ridiculous though, we tend to get shafted pretty bad with those such as in 2019 when we played West Coast on a Friday night in Perth only for it to be on Good Friday so North Melbourne's match was on FTA. It's annoying but that's just how the cookie crumbles unfortunately.

I assume since the tv deal that had interstate teams getting games on fta theyve tried to prioritise giving victorian clubs the free to air slots...

It seems like Sydney are the only interstate team that plays FTA into vic games against other interstate teams. They have 2 this year in the first 15 rounds. V port and Brisbane, Thursday Friday night. They get usually 2 a year

Carlton have a new shorts sponsor in Bupa for the next 3 seasons, both AFL and AFLW teams.

Something, something, Channel 7 ratings nationwide. If the NRL can frequently have North Queensland, Brisbane and now Redcliffe host Channel 9 games against other Queensland sides, Canberra and Melbourne on a regular basis. What's stopping the AFL? Oh that's right, Richmond, Carlton, Collingwood, Bulldogs and Geelong are the poster clubs. Excluding finals which Channel 7 even Gerrymander for ratings, the only non-Victorian Friday night games broadcast nationally on 7 since 2012 from memory was Sydney vs Adelaide (twice?) and Adelaide vs West Coast

I feel like there has been a couple more swans ones.

Swans eagles 2018
Swans Adelaide 3 times 17, 18, 19

Swans are the only non vic team to play against all 17 other teams since 2012 in a H&a game on fta.

Between 2007 - 2011 no interstate match ups on a Friday night.
The only 4 fta h&a match ups in them years and all involved Sydney.
2007 swans v Adelaide
Swans v WCE
2008 swans v WCE
2009 swans v WCE
ALL of these matches were with ch 10 on a Saturday night.

The first H&a game ch 7 covered since 2001 involving 2 interstate teams was swans v giants r1 2012. Interesting it’s pretty obvious ch 7 didn’t want to cover 2 interstate teams, because when they retained the rights in 2007 the year before the top 4 were, adel, wce, freo and Syd. Back then they could put it to 10 to cover it.

Channel 7 didn't have the rights 2002 to 2006, and in that time channel 10 had the finals exclusivly, Channel 9 had Friday night and a Sunday replay and I know Packer was pretty annoyed when he found out channel 9 didn't have the rights to any final.
