Re: Lions to Launch new Away Jumper

I am 100% in agreement with this sentiment.

FFS why do we have to have a variety of jumpers. We wear maroon blue and gold and that is it full stop. I don't care about the red of the fitzroy jumper or the bear or the V of the bears jumper, we are the Brisbane Lions now and have been over a decade for pete's sake. Embrace who we are now, we won't forget where we came from but crikey we play for the jumper, we barrack for the jumper, we are the Brisbane Lions, quit stuffing around with our jumper, have the one alternate for when there is a "clash" if we have to and leave it at that.
I agree. We are the Brisbane Lions now. I also think that we need to think of our young supporters. There are so many children / teens who support the Brisbane Lions because they won 3 premierships and appeared in a fourth. Not because their parents supported the Brisbane Bears or Fitzroy Lions. What about them?? I think we should be looking forward not back. I love our jumper. We've done fantastic things in it. Let's just have an alternate jumper for clashes only!!

Re: Lions to Launch new Away Jumper

Yup all good TBD provided it is a "clash" strip only, not an "away" strip.

Good points TBD and LL.

I guess the main thing for me is that it is a jumper that we can use long term and build some tradition with, whatever it looks like. Our current one is clearly a Puma design to be replaced every 3 years so we keep buying. I want a clash jumper that we could wear in a Grand Final and no one would really notice if we were playing Melbourne or Adelaide.

Re: Lions to Launch new Away Jumper

I normally agree with the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" mantra.

But our current clash strip is broken beyond belief. I hope this new clash strip is a home run and we can leave it at that.

As for the false controversy the Sunday Mail is tying to whip up... how sad. You'd hope no one is enough of a mental midget to buy into that.
I'm with you TBD on that horrible white urine stained jumper we had last year.....BUT.....this year there seems to be more yellow, which I thought at least looked a lot better....also was not so wishy washy looking....I also think the white is a better CLASH jumper........So in a nutshell, I'm happy with our main maroon jumper and then the white one.........Another idea though, was that if people dont like the yellow, change it to MAROON, as that is our main recognised colour (on the white)....We only need the two jumpers...lets keep things as simple as possible.......just my thoughts though.....

Re: Lions to Launch new Away Jumper

I also believe that it would work (not as a jumper for melbourne games thats crap, melb or bris shouldn't matter wear the maroon as often as possible.) but as a clash because the red really stands out as apposed to the darker maroon. See below

What he said, oh wait thats me

Re: Lions to Launch new Away Jumper

Another idea though, was that if people dont like the yellow, change it to MAROON, as that is our main recognised colour (on the white)....

the problem with that is that a faded maroon will look pink!!

Stick with the white background, the gold lion the maroon as the banding around the arms and neck line and blue around the bottom, even if it is a fade like the urine at least it will just be a pale blue and not a dehydration indicator or a fade to baby pink.

This way it is our traditional jumper just given a white background for those games with a clash such as Adelaide but not for games against geelong, carlton, collingwood etc where even on a black and white tv you could tell the difference.

Keep it the same no matter who the sponsor except the bit where the sponsor logo goes. Keep these 2 jumpers and leave it at that.

With our without claw marks, don't mind either way.

Re: Lions to Launch new Away Jumper

Cool......wouldn't want faded pink.....o.k by me.......lets settle on a CLASH jumper and be done with it for the next 50yrs IMO!!!!.......cheers..

Re: Lions to Launch new Away Jumper

Think it will look a hell of a lot like this.
Hate it.
Where is the Brisbane Bears part?

I hope this doesnt upset the majority of Brisbane supporters in Brisbane.

I dont know why we have a need to do this, a separate jumper for all Melbourne games, thats just dividing the supporter base.
We are one club, united as the Brisbane Lions.
I wish they werent doing this.
Not to forget the few old Brisbane Bears supporters in Melbourne.
I'll second that.
Are they just making new jumpers every year just so the stupid people like myself will keep buying them and pump up the profits a bit?

Of course they are making new jumpers so we will buy them, it takes a $hit load of $$$ each year to run a team.

We need to remember that the one thing that Brisbane got as part of the merger was exactly 100 years of VFL history. We can not let that die, if the new guernsey they will produce is designed to appeal to the old Fitzroy fans amongst us (of which I am one) what is the problem with that? We are one team now, and there is no doubt about that at all, however if by having a red guernsey for away matches in Melbourne, which is still representative of the existing Lions guernsey helps mend rifts of the past, then why not? How about having a link to that proud past to discuss with our kids?

I am part of a strange group. I adopted the Bears as I moved to Brisbane as my second team, heck I am a foundation member of the Bears, but I was a passionate Fitzroy fan for years before that. The merger was stange for me, and after time, for me, all is forgotten. But there are plenty that are looking for an olive branch. If the olive branch is offered, I just hope some will accept the fact that the club is making an effort:thumbsu:

Agreed.

And thats about as big of a reach-out the club could realistically give to the Fitzroy faithful (in terms of jumper design).

You'd hope (certain) people wouldn't demand more.

I can't talk for all ex Fitzroy fans, but I really do believe this will go a hell of a long way to helping people get over some issues they have.

We will just have to wait and see I guess.

I'm prepared to get upset when it comes out, just to cause some controversy :D

Seriously though, I'm going to withhold judgement until we actually see it...

... and create new ones.

I travel to all games in Melbourne and I presume they are all away games.

I was not a Fitzroy supporter before the Brisbane Lions so it will put my nose out of joint. If Fitzroy supporters get their old jumper back, I would like the Bears one as well.

I travel to Melbourne to support the Brisbane Lions, not Fitzroy.

If this happens (the Fitzroy jumper worn for all games in Melbourne), the club can say bye bye to my membership and the huge amount of money I spend on the club.

Re: Lions to Launch new Away Jumper

I am with you Daniel - almost all the way. I don't want a fitzroy or a bears jumper as a stand alone, the current one is the combination of the two and that is enough. We are the Brisbane Lions.

I am so over this it's not funny!

And as for the fitzroy red jumper nah hate it, we wear MAROON blue and gold.

I doubt they will ever have a Fitzroy jumper or Bears jumper other than for special occs (ie Heritage, Kings of the Pride etc) through fear of alienating supporter groups, would having the red as above bother you? IMO it looks alot better than the white piece of crap and still relates to OUR history

Re: Lions to Launch new Away Jumper

Funny how this issue stirs so much emotion in people. Would not bother me in the slightest if we adopted the Fitzroy red with the lion as our away jumper.

Think the Fitzroy people got the rough end of the deal in the merger and if this makes them feel they have a little bit more of their team back then good on ‘em.

As long as it doesn’t look like cheep and tacky like the current clash strip then I’ll deal with it.

Re: Lions to Launch new Away Jumper

really we need 4 jumpers.

1. our home normal brisbane lions jumper
2. the clash jumper. only worn away games when our normal jumper clashes. this jumper can have fitzroy influence, but not total fitzroy
3. fitzroy heritage jumper. replica of the old one worn only in heritage round when game is not in brisbane.
4. bears heritage jumper. replica of old bears jumper, worn only in heritage round when game is in brisbane.

4 jumpers is plenty, and the clash jumper should be worn bout 20% of the time, when their actually is a clash. old bears and fitzroy jumpers for obvious reasons ONLY during heritage round.

we should wear our normal jumper as much as possible and give some meaning to it, like the bears and fitzroy jumper has meaning. atleast 75% of our games should be in this jumper, and there is no reason it can't be that way

Re: Lions to Launch new Away Jumper

I can see where Daniel is coming from. I would hope that common sense does prevail and we do not have the Fitzroy strip for all Melbourne games. Lets remember we have one 3 flags in our current jumper, and I would like to see that jumper worn as much as possible.

I think games against Melbourne and maybe Essendon should be the only reason not to see our mighty home jumper not being worn in Melbourne. If they want to use a jumper based on the old Fitzroy jumper in those games, I have no issues with that especially if it means our current urine jumper bites the dust.

I hope it is only a marketing exercise that we are wearing this new jumper against Geelong and we are not about to never see our 3 time premiership jumper in Melbourne again.

OMG ......ENOUGH please!!!!.....Our normal jumper and the WHITE clash jumper is ALL we need.....Just tweak the white to suit......I dont like the red one one bit.......I agree with Daniel and Lady Laurence...we are the BRISBANE LIONS folks.....I also go to see the BL jumper, not Fitzroy, not Bears...........Learn the song people...it says MAROON, blue and gold........I will be anxiously waiting to see our "new" jumper.........I too am so over this...should not be an issue at all...

Re: Lions to Launch new Away Jumper

Me neither. In fact I just want whatever looks best, and I think the Fitzroy jersey is a damn fine looking jumper.

Regarding the debate as to whether it should be a clash strip or an away strip, I don't really care during the home and away games, but come finals I would like to see us wear our main strip whenever possible.

I just had an image of us playing a grand final in our current clash strip...

*shudders*

Firstly, we must wait and see what eventuates. Lets not jump the gun or anything here:eek:

If you have such a large issue with the Lions adopting an away jumper that reflects a part of the history of our club, then I am truely saddened by your stance.

I for one, as a young boy who went to the Junction Oval for every home game to watch my heroes play, am actually against us wearing the traditional Fitzroy jumper in games other than heritage round matches in Melbourne. However, what I am not against is us wearing a jumper that touches on the history of the Fitzroy Football Club. IF they go with something like the design TBD kindly adapted for me, then I would be happy with that, it keeps the theme of our current home jumper (the one we have worn for all of our time as Brisbane Lions) while giving some recognition to Fitzroy's proud past.

I know it is an old story, merger this, merger that. Water has flowed under that bridge for most. Fitzroy fans for years have been craving some recognition of the past, and if they get a small bit is that all that bad.

Finally, I will trust the club to make the best possible decision for the WHOLE of our club. Who is to say that the club has not done their homework and may be able to raise extra sponsorship from ex Fitzroy sponsors or infulentual members.

DC if you chuck in your membership over something like this I would be very dissapointed. We all have our own beliefs in how the club should be run, and if we all stopped being members just because something didn't go our way, then the club will die quickly.

Let's act like adults, and trust that the club we love will do what is in the best interest of our club:thumbsu:

Re: Lions to Launch new Away Jumper

My opinion is that I support the club - that is the players and the coaches and the organisation. It ain't no fashion parade and as much as I'd prefer us to look good out on the field ultimately it's the blokes inside the fabric that represents the fabric of the club. Not a bunch of colours. Despite what the Collingwood's and Essendon's of this world will say, clubs have changed colours before and not affected the heart and soul of that club.
